Rayman 3 for Gamecube working perfectly!

Post by Droolie »

Hi there!

I know it is quite rare and almost nobody here seems to have it, but I do have R3 for Gamecube! Well, not really.
But I got it working on an emulator completely ( interface too ) at a constant full speed! =D
Why am I making a topic for this?

Well, just to tell you that:
- The emulator allows you to rip the textures while playing, so that's what I will do.
- Rayman 3 for Gamecube is the best version of R3: it even contains extra minigames such as Mad Trax and 2D Madness 2, which I will be able to access ( I have already unlocked Mad Trax, but I can't play the game yet, since I don't have the GBA connection :P )
- It also has the GBA extras, and if I can make a connection between the GC emulator ( that's Dolphin, by the way ), and a GBA emulator, that would be fantastic: I'd have the extra levels for the GBA version! ^^

I'll take screens and/or videos of the 'new' features. :)

That's all!
Droolie.

EDIT -> Okay, so it seems connection between Dolphin and a GBA emulator is currently impossible.
Maybe I can get into Mad Trax with an Action Replay code though. :)
EDIT 2 -> According to a walkthrough for the GC version, I only need to beat the game with all 60 cages to have access to 2D Madness and 2D Nightmare. :)
EDIT 3 -> I'm in Clearleaf Forest Part 3, but I'll probably restart the whole game, since it didn't rip the textures yet. :P

Great work ! Maybe, since Dolphin emulates the Wii too, you could rip the textures from RRR too soon.

But yes, i'm going to ask again, what processor do you have. I have here a 1.8 Ghz Dual Core and Dolphin is quite unstable on this configuration.

So it's worth swapping my PS2 version for the GC one?

Does Dolphin use the acutal game disc or do you have to use an ISO? Because one time I tried it before, and despite actually having a copy of Luigi's Mansion I had to torrent down an ISO, and I couldn't get much more than the title screen anyway. This was last summer, so I guess the emu has gotten better since then?

Dolphin can read a disc. Every console emulator can read a disc.

By the way, if you can't get past the title screen, your Processor is way to slow.

That's probably it then. I must have 1) got a beta version of Dolphin, and 2) had a really shitty processor in that old computer of mine. The laptop probably won't be too much better but I'll try again sometime.

@Joshua: Yeah, ripping RRR textures is actually a good idea! :D
Oh, and... Intel Quad Core Q9300 @ 2.50GHz. ;)

@Stacey: Actually, I don't know if Dolphin can read a disc. I wouldn't swap your PS2 disc for the GC one. I think it's a better idea to download an ISO, like I did.
No, it's probably not that your processor was too slow, it's because the emulator didn't support anything else than the title screen. You can go ingame in Luigi's Mansion now though. ;)

Oh, and I forgot to mention something: everything works, except for some reflections ( in TFC part 2, you can normally see your own reflection on the floor, but in the emu, the floor is just black ). I'm sure that I'll be able to get past TLC ( where there are a lot of challenges with reflections and mirrors ), though.

Good news. Some things that you should know, anyway:

In case of Mad Trax, you obviously CAN'T play it without connection (as in case of Wheelis), because the GBA is used as controller for the second player (and in case of Wheelis - second and fourth). However, it can unlock the 2D Nightmare/2D Madness 2.

Somebody (spiral?) said that he/she needed to connect the GBA to GC to unlock the 2D Madness. Nobody knows anything in case of 2D Nightmare/2D Madness 2.

No connection (GC-GBA) can't be actually solved without integrating two emus into one (let's say, Dolphin and VBA), and the developers aren't connected anyway. So you see that's not that easy.

Maybe, but I bet you can access 2D Madness AND Mad Trax and Wheelis by using Action Replay codes.
I know you wouldn't be able to decently play those games though. :)

I bet you can access everything using these, but I also bet it would be easier with Pro Action Replay (not encrypted one).
EDIT:
Wikipedia wrote:There is, however, a program called 'GCNCrypt' that decrypts and encrypts Action Replay codes for the Nintendo Gamecube, making editing and hacking of codes possible.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid it's a lot more complicated :( I suggest you read the Q&A Versions you don't have topic, many things were said about 2D Nightmare.
Anyway, it's great news :)

This is magnificent :D

I downloaded a torrent of R3 GC, yet the RAR was corrupt somehow. And I can't try again for a while, due to bandwidth :|

But I WILL eventually repair the RAR or re-download it, or a different torrent, and I WILL play this :grrr:

@spiral:
1. Doublepost.
2. (Rayman Arena's dillemat) To work or not to work? This is a question.

@all:
Hey, what if a lot of us would say Codejunkies we want 2d Nightmare code?

... Wait a minute, I have found Rayman Arena for gamecube. :P
I'll test it... soon ( today/tomorrow ).

@stan: We can always try doing that. I'll ask Codejunkies soon too. :)

Spiral, I'm afraid Dark Rayman is only in the XBox version of Rayman Arena. We should ask Phoenixan about it anyway.

I heard he was in the Gamecube version :mefiant:

Well. I have a couple of other things I wanted to say. First of all: if we manage to get the reflections in R3 working, then Rayman 3 will only be the fourth Gamecube game to work perfectly in Dolphin, and the first non-puzzle game. So it would be quite a milestone.

Secondly...damn, I forgot what I was going to say... :?

Oh yeah, I remember! GBAs use the same port for connecting to GCs as they use for connecting to other GBAs, right? Well, VBA already emulates that port (you can trade Pokemon between different ROMs with VBA, can't you?) Well, I think this means that VBA is already sort of ready to have GBA-GC connectivity added. I think we need to email the authors of Dolphin and ask them if they have any plans for adding GBA connectivity. Don't they update Dolphin like every week or something?

@H801:...umm, let's make/buy an Xbox.

@spiral: I don't think so, if it's so good (generation back and Rayman game working!), it's an elite emulator like Kega Fusion, I think.

For once, I think you're wrong.
Because the version I have now is the rare version of Rayman Arena: the one with Dark Globox.
Here are some pictures! ^^

Notice how the speed is always around 25FPS. 30FPS is the maximum for this game, but this game uses frameskip, so it isn't really that bad if the speed is 20FPS ( minimum on my computer ).
In some of the screenshots, the FPS is below 20FPS... that's because I was taking screenshots. :P

Also, Rayman seems to be doing some yoga in his idle animations? o_O
