Re: God...
I have just discovered that Christians are instructed to give 10% of their monthly income to the church they attend. I wonder if Shawn is doing so.
Re: God...
Are you sure they're instructed? That sounds a little harsh... I thought it was just donations.
Re: God...
Seems like Christians are obligated to give such donations to the Lord their god.
Re: God...http://www.agape.com/tithe.htm
That's quite cruel of the church, in those days people got just enough to not starve. And poverty isn't out of the world yet.
And giving it to the lord ? That is nonsense. God stands above money. That is why the Protestans belief was created too.

Re: God...
Oh right, it was in the past. That makes sense now. ^^ It was all taxes and such...

If you mean the Ten-somthing, it was a lot of time ago. Currently, our family gives Church about 10PLN each Sunday. We have about a few thousands of zlotys each month (3, I suppose, but I'm not sure cause they work as dentists and they have better and worse months), so It is under a percent. Add a few hundred zlotys of traditional Christmas donation and that's all.Xenon wrote:Seems like Christians are obligated to give such donations to the Lord their god.
Re: God...
I think it's better to donate money to organisations like Greenpeace or the third world and alike. I think the money goes to a better purpose that way. Although church tends to donate much money to the third world too.

Re: God...
If a church is asking for donations so it can keep the building going or to help the needy locally then that's very fair enough. But donating it "for the Lord above?" What a joke!
Oh man we're not having an argument over global warming now are we?

Global warming is a fact. Go check it. We can wait until 2050 when Venice, Manhattan and Amsterdam stand under water. Or we can do something.Greenp**s supports global warming theory. So nope!
But let's get back on topic.

Well, argument over == contrargument? YES WE HAVE.StaceyW wrote:Oh man we're not having an argument over global warming now are we?
The Polish chronicles say many things about temperature, and some scienctists tried to analyse them. Analyse proves that there are cycles of weather being hotter or colder, and the 20th century was obviously the colder part.
Also note more and more scienctists say that they COULDN'T say global warming is wrong because of directives of their bosses, who don't like to lose money from licenses etc.
Another note is that instead of making strikes etc., Greenpeace can found some trees and... snake-plants in cities.
Sorry, but it seems you have been brainwashed at school or somewhere else. If global warming would be so big fact, it would be caused by volcanoes (as they produce a lot more duo-oxygenian of carbon than us) and so... natural.Joshua822 wrote:Global warming is a fact.
Yes sir.Joshua822 wrote:But let's get back on topic.
Re: God...
I didn't get brainwashed. Look at the facts. In Belgium, 20 years ago, we had white winters and nice summers. But now, we have rain in the winter, and our summer we get to spend inside looking outside the window because it's raining too.
That's says something. A climate doesn't change in 20 years. It can change over a century, yes, but 20 years ? NO, NO AND ANOTHER NO !

No thanks. As long as my bedroom is above sea level, I really couldn't care less.Joshua822 wrote:Global warming is a fact. Go check it. We can wait until 2050 when Venice, Manhattan and Amsterdam stand under water. Or we can do something.

It changes over century. I'm not sure how long these cycles are, but I think the "crysis point" can be smaller than 10 years.Joshua822 wrote:I didn't get brainwashed. Look at the facts. Note that in Poland, winter acts as autumn, spring acts as winter, summer acts as strong spring, and autumn acts as a bit weak summer. This actually means something is changing, but I can't call it in English.

Re: God...
First of all it's called carbon dioxide.
I'm with Joshua on this one. Much of the UK has been suffering from a lot of flooding in the past few years, and if our carbon footprints are not being reduced soon, some towns around the coasts in a lot of countries will end up going below sea level within 100 years.
If only my mum and dad didn't use up so much energy, as not only would it help the environment, it'd save a lot of money for them. But I'm no angel really.
To be fair though, most Greenpeace people I've known are pretty much hypocrites.

So you see. I prefer a bit strange opinion of priest than "normal" of a hypocrite.

I also heard Dubai will be completely underwater by 2100.Joshua822 wrote:Global warming is a fact. Go check it. We can wait until 2050 when Venice, Manhattan and Amsterdam stand under water. Or we can do something.
Global Warming is not fake and nor is it exaggerated. And volcanoes actually release a small amount of carbon in comparison. Human-based combustion of fossil fuels (also known as atmospheric forcing I think) is the single largest factor. The reason some people believe volcanoes cause such large impacts is because the climate drops, but this has not got anything to do with Global Warming itself.stan423321 wrote:Sorry, but it seems you have been brainwashed at school or somewhere else. Except that the theory of evolution is based on scientific elements, while creationism just came out of nowhere. There are several types of creationism, but if you don't find the idea of a god creating everything in six days six thousand years ago totally ridiculous, then I'm afraid you're a true victim of obscurantism.Joshua822 wrote:To be honest, i don't see what's so funny about creationism. Re: God...
Yeah, and Flanders too. My province and Brussels will most likely not get under water, but still. And The Netherlands, they're screwed. And New York, big city now. And soon the sky scratchers will be the only thing left visible. Also, London, kiss your arse goodbye. Venice, have fun swimming. New orleans, see you at the other side...
Don't want to believe it ? Fine. Just don't come crying to the people who where prepared in the end.
And speaking about preparing, The Netherlands are doing that great. Belgium is doing great too. And there are several Europian countries that are doing great too with tings like dams and green energy. For example, by 2040 we will most likely have a core reactor that will power millions of houses and that barely gives waste at all.

Re: God...
I heard about Holland draining some of the sea and building artificial land some time before, but I'm not sure if they still do it. Something I was told about in Geography back in senior school.
Back to God. You know, I don't ever remember having to donate to a church in the name of God in the only times I went to one. I've only been to churches for very few occasions, namely weddings, fetes and school stuff, and the only money I've given to them were to pay for tombolas and other stuff in the jumble. That's what I think is somewhat acceptable.
