Well, it almost happened. Raving Rabbids [1] was Rayman 4 until about six months or so before its release, when they converted it into a party game. I remember seeing Rayman 4 gameplay clips, and when I played Raving Rabbids you could see it did clearly come from that, because they re-used a lot of stuff. (Remember the cow-tossing minigame? Rayman's whipping the chain around was a part of one of the Rayman 4 costumes, the rock costume I think I saw him use it with. They just put the cow at the end.) To be honest, from what I did see though, it did look like it would've had some trouble as a platformer, and at that point I wasn't even sure how it would fare.Xenon wrote:I'm confident a true Rayman platformer will eventually be released, but I have no idea how long the Rabbid bungee will continue on for. I remember in 2004 people were convinced a decent Rayman platformer would be released within year 2006.

Re: Upcoming Games
I wish I could believe that, though I've lost faith in Ubisoft now, and I really can't be confident about that until I hear a real, official press release that says "We're finally working on Rayman 4". If I didn't grow up with the games and love them so much, I would've already given up completely on them and try to accept that they turned a favorite series of mine into another Mario Party wannabe. The fanbase has really put up with them so far, though they don't seem to care if that will last or not.
Re: Upcoming Games
Gameplay clips?! Shame they're not on youtube... I've only seen the trailers, damnit.
I don't think it would've been a very good platform, either. Maybe the Wii doesn't have enough memory etc. for anything more than party games.
If a Rayman 4 is released, I just hope I'm alive to see it.

Re: Upcoming Games
I've heard they changed it because it would be too hard to make a platformer with the Wii controls. But i don't see why it would be that hard. Just make Rayman shoot his fists with the Wiimote (right hand) and the Nunchuck (left hand), and then make an extra Gamecube controller/classic controller feature for people who are too lazy to do that.
Re: Upcoming Games
But then, they might as well have made a gamecube game

Re: Upcoming Games
I don't hate the Wii itself, but I hate how it has malformed the gaming business, I mean, just look at what shit is being released nowadays. Most games aren't about gameplay or storyline, but about how to twiddle your fingers in fast motion or how to jog on one spot. Kids seem to prefer the physical side to games now and don't appreciate magic style, scenery or anything else really.

I love its over-exaggerated adverts though. XD

I wonder if there's some new adventure game coming up. I like those. ^^
Re: Upcoming Games
I like the real-life simulation games, like the sims and Animal crossing.
The Wii has good controls for those games. I also love the Wii Wheel and its point-and-click controls for games like Worms and Mario Party.
Otherwise, I feel like chucking it in the bin.

I wonder if they make Excite Truck 2. It'd be awesome with an online mode.

Re: Upcoming Games
It [The Wii] is good business, though it's moving the industry nowhere. I seriously hope the Wii is not a trend-setter. I love gaming as it is right now--I don't want all this motion-sensing, 3D-vision, and all the other crap that's supposed to be "immersive". If I really wanted to play a Tony Hawk game where I could actually feel like I skateboarding with some oversized peripheral, then I'd save money and buy a real skateboard...
Re: Upcoming Games
The Wii is great for children who have a hard time sporting. But i agree, games are a lot more fun with the good old controller. But i think the Wii isn't to blame, it's Ubi Soft not knowing how to use the Wiimote and nunchuck for a good platform experience. I think Ubi Soft just didn't bother to experiment with the gameplay until they got it right. And, to be honest, i think the release date of the Wii was just in the wrong time.

Re: Upcoming Games
They released it in November/December because they know everyone will want one for Christmas.
I personally like my Wii and when I can actually afford a game I hope to get a few more, but I don't think I'll get quite a collection until I can get some nice ones for real cheap. I already have some of the better ones and it's hard to pick a game for well over 20 quid only to find that it sucks. It's like when I had a Playstation and bought games like Donald Duck Quack attack and thought "OMG yey, Ubi making a Donald game it's gonna rock!". The truth is that that game, and lots of others I once bought, sucked hard and I end up trading them in or selling them on eBay.
Be honest guys, all consoles have shitloads of crap games, even the 360 has its bad eggs.

Re: Upcoming Games
True, but it's undeniable that the Wii introduced a basketfull of bad eggs. I can't really say it is solely to blame but gaming companies did choose to, well, follow the Wii console for its "physical enjoyment" and transform their games into party crackers. I suppose that is opinionated though.

Re: Upcoming Games
Meh, the only console I've played so far this year is my Japanese Sega Saturn. I play that and my gaming desktop nowadays, really nothing else. I'm almost shooter/arcade racing purist now.
I wasn't actually talking about Rayman 4 at all in that last post, I just generally dislike the console and what it's creating in the industry. I'm totally turning away from consoles though at this point--I also don't care for gaming consoles of today being treated like media centers, which I find a plus for Nintendo in this case.Joshua822 wrote:The Wii is great for children who have a hard time sporting. I just found out that Team ICO's PS3 project is being unveiled at E3 this year

Any half decent Wii games that come out are mostly of Mario.

Re: Upcoming Games
I looked in a "starter's guide" magazine about the DS Lite today and it was reviewing about 40 games, but there wasn't a single Rayman one in there. Gee I wonder why.
Worms Open Warfare 2, Mario & Luigi 2 and Warioware Touched were in there with at least 83%, so it's good to know that I'm picking some good ones.

Re: Upcoming Games
The only good DS games I have are: Worms open warfare 2, Nintendogs (it had its moments <3), Drawn to life, Soul Bubbles, Pokémon Diamond, AC: Wild world and the sims 2.
I won't say Rayman DS 'cause it sucked and has my blood, sweat and tears all over it. Dx
