A lot of possibilities for Dark Rayman have gone through my mind. He could be an evil parallel universe version of Rayman, summoned by Mr Dark with magic, or he could have actually been created by Mr Dark, or Rayman's evil twin brother (nah), or maybe he's the result of a time warp which causes Rayman to be chased by himself from a few seconds ago. Or maybe he is something else.

He's something created by Dark, what was teleported when finished to kill Ray for once. Also note that there is no disappearing cloud in this stage - this could be a reason.

Lemme get this straight, Dark Rayman is just a skin/costume for Rayman? Or a seperate character?

If he's just a skin, then I'd say: it's just a reference/tribute to the clone from Rayman 1.

Dark Rayman (not to be confused with Bad Rayman from the original Rayman and its remakes) is an evil clone of Rayman playable as a special skin for the latter.

He's a skin of Rayman, but when you select him the name "Dark Rayman" appears in the menu instead of "Rayman".
