Emo!

Now, stfu. Your intervention has already caused an argument way worse than the one I and Stan are having (which is a serious discussion). gtfo, ffs!!!

I repeat my question to Stan:

Seriously? Seriously, I'm not sure about this either. Why do some people believe their mayor isn't good for their city if it seems like he's alright? Why do some people believe that they can do something for the humanity? Why do some people believe that tapes are coming out of U.S. president's head?...

My sou... sorry, brain's Probability Processing Unit simply claims possibility of existing of God being is way higher than the other one. Why? Ask some doctors. I don't know this.

Or maybe that's cause a lot of strange things happen there in Poland, and you get used to know that being realistic is unrealistic.

I think that people tend to believe when they truly begin to feel themselves insignificant, towards life's things, like tragedies or death. In their sorrow, pain, worry, the turn to something they believe is beyond them, an entity that can decide the fate of the world. Many people who have always been firm non-believers, still call for a priest on their death-bed. Plus, the promise of heaven is definitely more comforting than the fact that your body will be a worm-hive in a few years. XP

This saying from a non-believer, I might add. ;3

No. I just hate it when people assume I am just 'cos I'm easily downtrodden, therefore I seem depressed. Like Spiral said, I'm hypersensitive.

Strange events are excuses to believe in god, not proper reasons imo.

So what you're doing is admitting that your belief is irrational and doesn't have any evidence or personal religious experiences? Very well, I can understand that. The interesting thing is that this seems to be the case for most religious people. This supports the hypothesis that people are religious only because they have been brought up to be by their parents and the educational system.

I think you're right about wishful thinking. I'd much rather believe in God, but I don't, as it doesn't make sense.

And I've heard of people losing their faith because of bad things happening to them or other people, not the other way around.

Throw 100 people in a life-threatening situation, and see what happens. ;3 Hint: most of them won't pray for physics or blind luck, and even less begin acting like superheroes.

People think high and mighty of themselves, until they come in contact with their own mortality. At that point most(not that not everyone, but a lot) turn to whatever deity they believe in, or have heard of. To put it simply, they're crying for help, and wish for it from the highest source possible. In the event of a problem, it's comforting to believe in an omnipotent and benevolent creature, than jsut blind luck. True, people tend to lose faith because of tragedies, but UNTIL they've happened, they try and try to ask for help.

Allow me to arbitrate.

Mylifeisinsane > Only post in this topic if you have a valid contribution to make, and don't try to moderate from behind the curtain. People are free to air their different opinions, and arguments are welcome as long as they're constructive.

Simple? Fair?

Back to the subject at hand, I think people should choose what they like. If they wish to believe in a god of some sort, why intervene? Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, so there really shouldn't be a problem at all. I'm not in the mood to write a long essay now, but people who consistently try to convert Christians into atheists annoy the heck out of me.

Well said.

Like I've stated before, I'm neither with or against religions. I personally have very little belief, but I view each and every person with different looks upon the topic equally. Seriously, my friends range from complete atheist, to priest-wannabe, so like I said, as long as someone doesn't want to force their beliefs on me, I'm fine. :D

fuckfuckfuck

I agree that people should be allowed to think whatever they want, but as soon as their beliefs start to affect other people it has gone too far. Religions have brought no good to this world, and it is desirable that they are exterminated or rendered harmless in some other way.

Although religion hasn't brought anything good to the world (though I'll have to say all the Christians I've met are very, very nice people), it also hasn't brought anything bad, therefore, there's no reason to hate either group.

I was obviously referring to people in the 'oh-this-argument-should-stop' dispute.
I don't.
