Re: Limely's fanart thread

Basically you move your hand around and add more lines randomly and then you think oooh this looks nice, and then I put this here and this here and that there.

I kid, halfway. It's a little bit like that. That's the step where I do the most work, the actual planning. I put basic shapes and lines to plan the motion and pose of the figure, balance him, compose the image (or I should do this but I never do because I suck and am a terrible artist and I don't give a shit about composition, I just want to draw AAAHH leave me alone, teacher! DB) etc. Sometimes I like doodling the facial expression as well, but I usually do that in step 4 which is actually step 3.
Step 1 is actually super-important, at least when I draw. I think it's much easier to make a pose along the "spine", or the general motion of the body. This helps me make the character a lot less stiff than he could have been if I was drawing without the "spine"-line. I think some people call it the action-line or whatever.

I picked this up while watching Disney Chanel and there was this guy drawing Kim Possible and he started of with a line to suggest the general direction of the body or whatever, and I was like OH THAT'S CLEVER I SHOULD DO THAT. So basically I'm just doing what other people have figured is good really. Observe, absorb and then plop it onto paper. *spooonge*

I guess it's kinda dependent on how good you feel in yourself. I mean, if Picassa had a similar attitude to mine about personalised artwork, I'm sure he wouldn't be the man he is today.

He meant because he has a bad attitude towards art, he is not a good artist. ;p

Ooooh, I think I get it then.

Obviously you can't be very good at anything if you don't have much faith or don't like what you do...

If you guys are ever going to learn how to draw anime, don't ever start tracing from screencaps, for gawd's sake. People will tear the shit out of you for that.

Haha, I know what you mean, but I'm thinking this is quite different. Anyone can do basic math with little effort, and you are forced to practice it at school, no matter if you like it or not, or show talent or not, which is why I suppose it's quite possible to become fairly good at maths even you don't like it.

But when it comes to things like, say, drawing, dancing, playing an instrument, or even sports, nobody is going to learn you that if you don't ask them to help you and show some interest. And you won't be forced to learn those at school and to practice doing this five-six hours or more, a week, so the only way you'll get to practice this is by doing it in your own in your spare time, and you won't do that unless you want to. And practice is the key for becoming good at anything.

Just draw the people you normally draw only with big, glittery eyes and your done.

Now, someone teach me how to draw hands. D: I cannot draw hands even if my life depended on it. Dx

Everyone struggle with hands, it seems. This has a lot of nice and easy to understand info on that topic. c:

Lol, it's because I like to draw things small. I'm lucky my art exam fitted the whole paper.

I usually draw very small too. It's a bad habit. :B My teacher scolds me for it all the time, so I try to draw school stuff on a bigger scale than things I just doodle on my own, and I think I'm becoming better at it.

Is mah thread so I get to bump it.

I was extremely bored and was drawing multicoloured stars on my mac, before I figured this might not be a very good idea and decided to draw on paper instead. And then Murfy just popped up, and then some other Rayman-characters, and there you have it. Silly sketches.
