Re: God...
A singularity, which is an object of infinite density and zero volume. For some reason, it began to expand rapidly and became the universe. It did not appear, because it had always existed (due to the fact that time itself is a product of it). And the natural mental image of a tiny speck floating in a vast abyss is also incorrect, as the very three-dimensional space which we live in is part of it.blacklumbob wrote:this is completly crazy.
ok so a collision of nothingness cant create stars and planets. im not disagreeing wit you on that. but then what do you suggest DID?
As for the origins of the singularity, I am a big fan of the "multiverse-creating-itself-through-a-time-loop" theory:

and what created the time loop?

Re: God...
The universe occasionally splits into two universes, which branch off in different directions. Eventually, one of them curved right around...and became the first one.
That is the beauty of this theory...

Re: God...
so this loop had to have had a start?

Re: God...
It was created by itself. This is not possible in our (perceived) three-dimensional world, but through a time loop, there is no actual reason why it shouldn't be possible.
Re: God...
Time loops are what fascinate me.
Maybe the loop produced (or was the product of) a 4th dimension. The three that we are familiar with are obvious, but perhaps another one exists that is completely out the eyes of human conception. I mean picture yourself a dot on a blank piece of paper. You move along the page and come to another dot. You would not be able to jump over this second dot as height is something you're not accustomed to understand. Just imagine if there was an additional dimension (a proper one, I mean); this could have had something to do with the creation of matter.

Uhh...the fourth dimension is time...you knew that, right?Xenon wrote:Time loops are what fascinate me.

Re: God...
It's not the 4th dimension in space, though, it's just the 4th dimension in spacetime (or something). In spacetime, space is three-dimensional and time is one-dimensional.

Re: God...
So Xenon's saying he thinks space is four-dimsensional?
I don't see how a spatial dimension could create the multiverse tbh.

Re: God...
Time isn't really in the same context, so I was excluding it.

Time isn't in the same context as what? Space?
Re: God...
As the three dimensions we are familiar with, obviously.

Time is in the same context as them. Space and time are part of the same thing.
Re: God...
That's like saying buns and ham are part of the same thing (being the hamburger). They are different but are interconnected to make 'one'.

Re: God...
That doesn't mean time isn't a dimension.

Don't let this topic die, folks! It has produced by far the best debates ever on PC ever (at least in my time), it would be a shame if it were to die.
I suggest that spiraldoor, a mod or Hunch changes the topic title to something like "Religion and ethics", as this topic has been used to discuss far more than merely whether a god exists.
Anyway, Obama righted one of the worst wrongs of the Bush administration (imo) by allowing research on stem cells in the US. What are your views on stem cell research? And what about abortion? Is it murder?

Re: Religion - your views
I've changed the topic title. I think though, ethics or any other diverse topics should be discussed in separate topics. There's no reason why all good discussions should be catalogued into this one huge topic and it wouldn't make sense anyway - but feel free to start new ones. I think the OT board is in need of some revamping at the moment.

By the way, I am an athiest.
I worship almighty Atheismo!!!!
Yeah anyway... Stem Cell Research... Personally I don't have a problem with it, or abortion.

I beleive in abortion IF the woman is in such a condition that she can't have or look after a baby. If a woman got drunk and had sex then she deserves to be pregnant therefore she shouldn't have an abortion.
