Re: Rayman 3 Scores
Getting that gem is pretty easy, I always included it. You just have to shoot the hook before the final gem on the horizontal net so that you get while swinging. Using that technique gives you enough time to jump to the yellow gem before the combo runs out.
@Xenon: I'm pretty sure, that the counter-clockwise thing was part of the combo. The German forums should be back in about a week, then I can look it up for you.

Re: Rayman 3 Scores
Ok, you can continue the combo from the grid on the ceiling to the gem on the ledge, but how do you go on from there?
Do you play the combo this way: Start at the yellow gem next to the Lockjaw can on the left. Work your way up to the higest platform and use the hook to get to the platfrom hanging from the ceiling? Then get the yellow gem on that platform and continue with the gems on the wall as you climb the grid and then move on to the grid on the ceiling. Use the hook to get the gem on the ledge, fall down and get the five yellow gems on the wall. Fall down further to get the gem on the lowest platform on the ground and finally get the yellow gem under the Lockjaw can?
This combo contains all gems, but I'm not sure if you can get from the highest platform to the platform hanging from the ceiling on time.

Re: Rayman 3 Scores
Ok, I found a way to get all the yellow gems in combo. It's not easy though.
Re: Rayman 3 Scores
ALL of them? Well I've found an easy way to combo all but one, which I've made a video of. Alas the computer downstairs (the only one with the appropriate software installed) keeps messing up. I'll try and sort it out soon though.
What's this difficult way then?

Re: Rayman 3 Scores
I'll try to make a video, but I start at the right of the five gems on the wall.
Where do you you start? And which gem do you leave out?

Re: Rayman 3 Scores
I think I may know how you do it, but I won't say anything until I see the video.
I start with the gem on the moving platform.
Something else to consider here: in the Heckler room, I was wondering whether the first Heckler could be combo'd with anything... and I stumbled upon the idea that the Black Lum from the Hoodmonger would be the item to combo it with. I believe there is sufficient time to do this as it always flies off "northwards" (or towards the HMF can).

Re: Rayman 3 Scores
Right, well I finally managed to sort the little problem out, so here's the video as promised:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bkpy2F_FVNk
As you can see, the only gem I miss out is the one on the second grill above the entrance. I just don't feel it's possible to incorporate all of these gems into the combo. The video doesn't feature the gem as you come in (on the left) either, but this gem is obtainable too if you're quick.
And behold this...
The 3500 point Heckler combo!
...round of applause?

Re: Rayman 3 Scores
OMG, I'm playing part 3 of BOM... danger, difficult^^ one question, what you think is better?
1. - I play the horrible combo for maximum score (not the extended version of MandM) and play the Green Gem for 6000 OR
2. - I split the horrible combo into 2 parts, and play the Green gem for 9000.
No. 1 will bring 41000 points, No. 2 too (+/-).

Re: Rayman 3 Scores
Hehe, I see you made a video of the Heckler combo as well. So did I and since I don't want to have done that in vain, I'll post it here.
The 3 Heckler Combo
I will post the gem combo later. It's becoming annoying to play. I do however get two more gems than you.
Cut: I suggest you play whatever you find is easier. Both versions can be quite difficult.

Re: Rayman 3 Scores
I see we use different techniques. That's interesting. Maybe I should use your method instead of my own in the future because it looks easier.
Though to be honest, with regards to scoring, I don't think the 3-Heckler combo as a whole is useful at all. It would be far more profitable to use one gem to combo the three Hecklers, thus allowing the other two piggybanks to be used to combo the lone Heckler and the Hoodoo. Or perhaps, the Hoodmonger's Black Lum could be used to combo the first Heckler, opening up the opportunity for another 3500 point Heckler combo (four Black Lums!).
@ Cut: You need to score as many points here as you can. Part 3 is renowned for its two difficult combos, but once you've mastered these you're laughing. The first huge combo isn't as tricky as it's made out to be though, in my opinion, so long as you keep your cool throughout the sequence. And the green gem combo, well, sfn42 let me in on a nice little hint to reduce the stress there.

Re: Rayman 3 Scores
Ok, I managed to make a video of the gem combo.
The 27 Yellow Gems Combo
I believe the 3 Heckler Combo is necessary in order to squeeze every points out of this part. If not, you have to convince me it isn't. Do the math and present some playable combos. My way of playing provides a total of 4.500 combo points from the Elite Monger, the two Hoodoos and the four Hecklers. Do you have a way to improve on that?
I have tried to use the Lum from the Elite Monger. It flies away way before one can kill the first Heckler.
If you can do it, please make a video.

Re: Rayman 3 Scores
You all think, that part 3 isn't as hard as it sounds, huh?
I think, it's already horrible, my big problem is: after the first hoodblaster, I can't reach the first Muddibog, my fist never hits him...

Re: Rayman 3 Scores
Part 3 is hard, especially when you try it out for the first time. The thing is, we have played this part so many times we know how to play it.
One of the hard things to do is indeed to reach the first Muddibog in the hallway after the Hoodblaster. Try to kill this Hoodblaster as late as possible and also hit the Muddibog as early as possible. In order to do this, hit him from the left side of the wooden pathway when you are almost at the end of it. There is a video that may give you some inspiration on page 1 in this thread.

Re: Rayman 3 Scores
Little variations cost some points but they can make the big combo a little easier for you. Leave out the red gem from the cage for example, it might give you the extra second you need to reach the Muddibog. The more Hoodblasters you weaken, the easier it gets, you lose a few hundred points but you have a better chance of finishing this part. You can also change some things in the first room, for instance leaving the gem on the smaller mushroom or the red gem from the Muddibogs. It costs you some points but it might help you to get to the Hoodblaster in time.
Despite these cutbacks you can still get about 43000 and when you play TBOM again you can work on these little things and get the rest done more easily because you practice it now.
@MandM and Xenon: It's interesting to see your improved versions of these combos, especially of the one with the yellow gems.

Re: Rayman 3 Scores
@MandM+sfn: Thanks for the helpful hints!
Re: Rayman 3 Scores
A good technique to adopt would be to lessen your swing on the first grapplehook. If you give yourself that extra time, you'll be able to shoot the Hoodblaster in the hallway later thus giving you a more comfortable time to reach the Muddibog.
For me though, I found the trouble in this combo lies with the following Muddibog. You may find like me you'll have to shoot the second Muddibog from behind so that you can have sufficient time to reach the Hoodblaster near the crates, but that requires some skill too. Either way the remainder of the combo is fairly straightforward so I don't think there's any need to weaken the latter Hoodblasters.
How do you plan to tackle the green gem, by the way? Are you going to try and combo it for 9000 points using sfn's video or are you going to settle for a safe 6000 point combo?
@ sfn42: I think the idea of missing the red gem out is a misconception. When I was in part 3 I remember it didn't lose much time so long as Rayman didn't jolt about. But then again as I said, I didn't have any problems with the first Muddibog so I could be speaking out of tongue.
You seem incredibly sceptical about my special Heckler combo. Maybe it's because you've misunderstood my actions: I start by positioning the Elitemonger as near to the crates as possible, then I kill it with a lateral shot, then I quickly run to the HMF and give the Heckler (which should be standing in near proximity) 6 shots in quick succession, then I hit the Heckler to get rid of its shield - by this time, the Black Lum should be just flying passed if you're really quick - and finally send a deadly shot at the Heckler to kill it, transforming the Lum just before the shot reaches him.
I'll admit it's a pretty hard combo as you need to be quick, but I'm definitely no cynic... in fact I reckon this would be easier than the 3-Heckler combo.

Ah, that's how I thought you did it. I tried that method too, but I couldn't combo the yellow gem on the moving platform and the following one in time. Plus there's so many pitfalls in that. Mine may lose 100 points, but it's around 100 times easier I think.MandM81 wrote:Ok, I managed to make a video of the gem combo.

Re: Rayman 3 Scores
It helped me to leave the red gem be years ago. The Hoodblaster after the hook was one of the most troubling parts for me by then, as I lost a lot of time getting to the hook and therefore had to shoot the Hoodblaster early, costing me some time on the way to the Muddibog. Not taking the red gem gave me a better chance to get there in time.
The second Muddibog was never a real problem for me. I think you have enough time to make it to the Hoodblaster without shooting it from behind. However, it can avoid a few restarts if one weakens this Hoodblaster because of the piranha, which sometimes gets in the way.

Re: Rayman 3 Scores
With your hits, the combo worked much better, but I never came to the 3 mushrooms, before the combo ran out. But I don't give up, after part 3 I could have 40000 points, this would be 7500 points extra (that means, I would have min. 77500)!!!
Re: Rayman 3 Scores
Xenon: Didn't mean to sound so sceptical. But let me get this straight, you kill the Elitemonger (in combo with a Pig?) and then you rush to the HMF far away and kill the Heckler in combo with the Lum? And you find this easier than the 3 Heckler Combo? Ok, first of all, don't you have to have the Lum within eye sight so it doesn't disappear? And don't you need the Heckler to stay near the HMF can? I have to ask, have you ever made it work?
In any case, how many combo points do you get all in all from the Elitemonger, the two Hoodoos and the four Hecklers?
About the gem combo. It is indeed the jump to the moving platform that is the hardest part. I did play for some time before the video was in place. When I replay TOTL I will use your way but stick to my trusted 3 Heckler Combo in the next room.

Re: Rayman 3 Scores
@ sfn: It's interesting to know that you didn't have troubles with the second Muddibog. I always had difficulty in reaching the Hoodblaster across the way in time, mainly because of the annoying fish that jump over the fallen log just as you're passing.
@ MandM: Well, I didn't plan to combo the Elitemonger with anything as I wouldn't have time to renew the HMF and kill the Heckler. It is indeed very hard to position the two Hoodlums appropriately but I have succeeded in this before. And to answer your question, no, alas, I have never made this combo work properly before, but I'm pretty sure it can be done.
As for the scoring, I've decided to retract my idea of comboing the Hoodoos as in effect, such would only gain 20 points (from the additional Lum from a Heckler) and would be a much, much more tricky alternative.
This is however, assuming the first Heckler can be combo'd. If it can't, it would be more profitable to combo the Hoodoo, the Elitemonger, the Hoodstormers, the first Heckler and the second Heckler with the stuff by the crates.
