The PS1 logo seems to be exactly the same as the normal PS1 logo, so I honestly don't see what looks 'cuter'. The Rayman logo is ugly though.StaceyW wrote:Look at the PS1 logo people. It's a Japanese version of that. They obviously had to change it to make it look a bit cuter.

Re: Rayman 1
I'm talking about the whole cover guh.
Wonder if Rayman 3 was ever released in Japan; if so it must have gone through a heavy amount of localisation.

Japan is all about shiny and kawaii desu, haha.

Take Kirby for example!

American Kirby Air Ride cover: Kirby is mad and rides a Warp Star

Re: Rayman 1
Hang on!
Isn't Rayman's body blue in the Japanese version, since purple symbolises death in Japan? Or was that just for Rayman 2 (and R1 GBC)?

Re: Rayman 1
Most likely, and it seems that they have changed it back to purple for the Japanese versions of Ravign Rabbids. I'll have to check the JP version of TV Party on the DS.
Edit: Well I checked the Japanese TVP, and Rayman's body is still purple, in fact it's practically the same as the English versions but with Japanese text obviously.

Re: Rayman 1
On this note, actually.. don't play it. It is terrible in comparison to my PC version.spiraldoor wrote:Just download a ROM of it.Mylifeisinsane wrote:Rayman 1 sounds great. I'm going to see if I can find the GBA versinon on the internet, then convince my mom to get it for me ^^
I've been playing it as part as Rayman 10th Anniversary Collection for the GBA recently just because I miss having a computer it would work on. (DOSBox and Pok2's patch don't seem to work for me either. No idea what's going on.) So anyway...
It's crap.
It's dumbed down severely.
They went wild placing extra checkpoints EVERYWHERE to make the game "easier." They also took out some enemies. They even placed some of the cages in different locations, and tied into this, they went on an extra lives spree, placing trophies in extra places. The crawling on my DS' pad is even crap, and it's still crap, even when I moved onto a GBA-SP, and it's not even specifically a problem with the d-pad. Rayman 3 uses the exact same control scheme and works just fine. Rayman 3 on the GBA is GREAT.
The music occasionally has notes that cut out when other sound effects play. Rayman 3 on the GBA doesn't even have this problem either. Clearly, in terms of some of the portions of code, they didn't know what they were doing.
The platforms are sometimes glitched up. I've had at least 5 instances where I got teleported to the top of a platform when I got hit, enabling me to skip portions of levels.
Yet, with all these problems, it's dumbed down to the point of being too easy to be a lot of fun.
I would almost challenge anyone who would say that this game was hard to playing the PSOne or PC versions. Speaking of which, I'm going to go shopping or rom-hunting and find the PSOne version.

PS1 version is too hard.
Re: Rayman 1
No, the PSOne version was not too hard, it was simply too awesome. So much fun, such a great game. I agree with Phoenixan, Rayman Advance is nowhere as great as the Playstation version. That's why I wish I had a ( hacked ) PSP: then I could play the PSOne version anywhere.
Re: Rayman 1
I have the PS1 version and it ROCKS!!! (yes i have it on my own ps1 -_-)

Because it's on PSN. And you always know that the official downloadable version is going to be a flawless copy (unlike an ISO, which always has something wrong with it, from my experience. Skipping in FMVs, crackling audio, et cetera...). And you wouldn't have to worry about finding some way to convert an IMG, CCD, SUB and CUE file into an eboot.
Re: Rayman 1
The PSN version has low quality music, so the filesize is reduced. That's why I'd rather like to play an eboot of the real PS1 version.
Oh, and no, they don't always have something wrong with it. Certainly not if I rip my own PS1 disc and convert it to an eboot...

Argh! What? Where did you hear this?! This is terrible if it's true.Drolpiraat wrote:The PSN version has low quality music, so the filesize is reduced.
Hmm. Whenever I'm playing a game on an emulator, I'm sort of constantly on the lookout for the things I mentioned above (crackling in audio, etc). So I can never really play peacefully...and if I find them, I get annoyed that my ISO is imperfect, and it makes me want to download another one. But maybe that's just me...Drolpiraat wrote:Oh, and no, they don't always have something wrong with it. Certainly not if I rip my own PS1 disc and convert it to an eboot...

Re: Rayman 1
Surely it can't be as bad as Rayman Advance music, right?
Gonna sound retarded here but what's an eboot?

Re: Rayman 1
Eboots are executables for PSP ( so like *.exe files for PSP
). In this case, an eboot of a PSOne game is basically a PSOne ISO converted to a PSP executable.
And no, it can't be as bad as the music in Rayman Advance. ^^

Re: Rayman 1
I always figured the reason the downloadable PS1 games were so small in filesize was some kind of compression, like the way the R2 N64 soundtrack is five or six times larger than the ROM itself.

How do you know this? From experience, or did you read it somewhere, or what?Drolpiraat wrote:The PSN version has low quality music

Re: Rayman 1
The R2 N64 soundtrack is larger than the ROM itself, not because of compression, but because the music in the game is in a format comparable to MIDI: USF ( there are a few small and low quality sounds that get played in the right order and with the right frequency, so this leads to a very, very small filesize ), while the soundtrack on RayTunes is in MP3 format ( one large and in this case, good quality sound ).spiraldoor wrote:I always figured the reason the downloadable PS1 games were so small in filesize was some kind of compression, like the way the R2 N64 soundtrack is five or six times larger than the ROM itself.

MP3's quality and filesize depend on the bitrate though. I think that they probably decreased the bitrate of the music of some of the PS1 games, so the filesize is also reduced and you can download it quickly.
And yeah, I remember I read it somewhere, but I can't remember where. I'll look for it now.

Re: Rayman 1
What if they just converted all the sounds to USF?
~Forgive me if that sounds ridiculous; I've never even heard of the format until now.

Re: Rayman 1
It sounds ridiculous indeed, but I forgive you. It's not even possible.
USF is only for Nintendo 64 games, and even if it was for PSOne/PSP too, it simply isn't possible to convert 'recorded' music ( like R1's ) to 'pattern' music ( like R2 N64's ). The opposite is possible though: you can record 'pattern' music to get 'recorded' music. ^^
