I don't think you understand. No matter when you get it, the lum gives you max energy and doesn't increase the lum count in the corner. They should have done a better job of making the player think it was just another lum if (s)he got it before the other 999.

Here is a Visual Basic Code representation of what I mean:
When a super lum is taken:

When an ordinary lum is taken:
