Hi-res Rayman 1 (PS'd)

Post by Adsolution »

Here check this out. :P If Me and the Rayman Designer gang somehow figure out how to run the game at a larger resolution, I could probably Photoshop all the sprites and make it look like this in-game! I wouldn't be surprised if we did find out how. The grass was really easy and IMO looks quite lush.

Parts still look a little pixelated, to be honest.

Whoah, that looks good!

However, I think the original has more of a Rayman-y feel to it.

Well, no shit, considering the original is actually a screenshot from the game.

It's like describing a Half-Life screenshot as being Half-Life-y or a Halo screenshot as being Halo-y.

Huh? What I'm saying is, if we did get it looking like RayFan's image, I think the game would lose its atmosphere.

Just so you know, I did this in like 20 mins. I'd spend a lot more time on it if I felt like it to make it more close to the original.

I'm making a sidescroller version of my Rayman game that has the same story, but it's a sidescroller and I'd probably use up-res'd sprites.

Pheonixan's game sort of inspired me for that.

It kind of... looks quite edited. Rayman in particular looks smudged and blurred. But nice touch I guess.. good luck if you do plan to continue this.

Can't emulators render games in higher resolution?

This is what the PlayStation version of R1 looks like in ePSXe (click it for full resolution):

Um, it's pixilated to the max for one.

Two, you're not even using the texture filter. :P

I believe that ePSXe automatically improves the graphics.

All I care about in the 2D game remake of ROTD. Didn't see that coming. Anyway, can you tell us information about this game?

1. That's literally impossible to upscale a 2D image AND making it look better, I did this manually with the blur tool mostly.

2. The best it can do is a texture filter.

The best one I've really seen so far was Eagle Filter, but that one is pretty slow, plus it only does straight-up 2D graphics (rather than more hardware-accelerated stuff like Rayman on PS).

True. I think the hq3x filter works the best for emulators.

@Sabertooth

ROTD? I'm not really sure what that is but is it really related?

I meant could you tell us information about the 2D version, because you said you were making one in another post.
