Works for me, still...
You know, I have a mighty feeling that the old Raymanzone magazine looked this site up when they tried to look for facts.

Re: New info from old R2 site?
Haha, no I've never seen that, but I think it's still wrong. I'd have to hear or read it straight from Ancel's mouth, not Gametap. Usually those videos made on gaming websites aren't exactly correct. The guy doing the voice over also avoids going into any reason exactly why a 32 bit system couldn't handle someone with arms and legs. And the Jaguar itself was touted as a 64 bit system, which is where Rayman was originally released.StaceyW wrote: Didn't you see this Gerbil?
It make absolutely no sense that the limbs would be too hard for 32 bit systems to process. It's just animation frames, and they would all be moving at 30 fps (or whatever the PAL framerate is) like the rest of the game, so it shouldn't bog down the game either way. Instead of drawing full frames for a lot of the character animations in the first Rayman, they moved a lot of shapes around for hands and feet instead. Thing is they still did do a lot of full animation for the individual shapes and parts itself as well as facial expressions and such. Other game developers already proved before hand that you could move full video around on the SEGA CD, why would this not be possible on a 32 BIt system? Even games like Skullmonkeys, Boombots, or Blazing Dragons released on 32 bit systems after Rayman used way more animation and full video without a problem.
Also Earthworm Jim's special Sega CD edition was released before Rayman, having maybe way more fully animated frames than it's SNES/Genesis counterparts and any console platforming games from that era, including a full pencil test at the beginning screen. All of that was achieved on a 16 bit CD-ROM setup.
I don't know, maybe it's just because I animate for games all the time at work, and granted I use much newer software, but it just doesn't make sense to me why it couldn't be done. So I just hold it as both a style decision and a way to save time in animating, not really something that the hardware or games at the time weren't capable of. Also, how was Rayman going to shoot his fist all that way with the arms?
I guess to help explain it, if you look at the sprite sheet for Rayman 3 GBA (I couldn't find the original Rayman sprites), everything is still saved out as a full individual frame even though, maybe some shapes or facial expressions are copied from frame to frame.

So either way, the way character sprites work, the game is moving frame by frame either way. If you went into the actual sprite set and drew in all the arms and legs and recompiled the game, I would imagine it wouldn't make any sort of impact whatsoever.

It seems more likely to me that it was the other way around.StaceyW wrote:You know, I have a mighty feeling that the old Raymanzone magazine looked this site up when they tried to look for facts.

The Raymanzone magazine was made in 2003 whereas the fansite was there around about the time I first socialised on the net, we're going way back to like, 2001 here.

I see. Were any of the magazine's other facts mentioned on the old R2 site?

Where do you think the Rayman Psychopath's other information (Island of Phrys, Globber etc.) came from? Are you sure they weren't on the official site as well?StaceyW wrote:A few of them, eg the Rayman's eyes one, the Japan and China one and the graphics space one.

I was really unlucky to miss out on the really old Rayman 2 sites because Dreamkey didn't support flash, so those I don't know.

Well, I know the Globber one's true. It was at this very site that I saw an official picture of Globox with the name Globber.

I don't really like the idea that EVERYTHING is the offspring of Polokus; I'd like to think that most creatures were created through his dreams, with the Teensies being his only actual children.Sabertooth1000000000 wrote:Wow, this is interesting. Maybe Polokus is like a Greek god, and he had multiple lovers, and thus created the Ludivs, the Minisuaruses, the greenbottles, and the glutes.
~Polokus "created" Clark to help him carve the landscape, and "created" the Guardians to protect the masks. Clark's arms, and body in general, are quite similar to those of the Guardians...and Clark's feet are very like Polokus's. Just thinking aloud here...
Judging by information from the old R2 site and Matthias's Fanpage, it seems that his name is "Creol".dingodile555 wrote:Do you think we can finally put a name on Razorbeard's lackey then?
Yes, as my post implied...it is of no use, though.PluMGMK wrote:What about it? You've been looking for stuff with it?spiraldoor wrote:The Wayback Machine! It does nothing!
Polokus was created from Lums, and as such is the only creature that was definitely born from energy. I prefer the 'Sons of Polokus'* explanation for the Teensies.Raygirl wrote:Seeing as the Rayman universe is in the habit of creating new species whenever there's a magical imbalance (see Rayman 1) it might suggest that the Teensies aren't 'born' but formed from energy. Hence there's no need for traditional 'females' or any kind of gender specifications. Maybe Teensies just appear and form out of nothing and become part of population. A magical field can be the excuse for all sorts of things ^_^

The Glutes are just random blue birds you know.Sabertooth1000000000 wrote:Wow, this is interesting. Maybe Polokus is like a Greek god, and he had multiple lovers, and thus created the Ludivs, the Minisuaruses, the greenbottles, and the glutes.

Globox/Glute discussion must not swamp this thread.
~Matthias's Fanpage seems to have old stuff on it, like references to Creol and Red Rum. I will now go to in and...plumb its...depths...

The key word here is 'definately', as such it's left very open to enterpretationspiraldoor wrote:Polokus was created from Lums, and as such is the only creature that was definitely born from energy. I seem to recall that I read somewhere that Rayman was supposed to have been 'born from light', hence 'Ray'man...makes sence considering how he 'dies' in the games and is 'reborn' in a puff of lights and sparkles
I mean I don't personally agree with it, as I like the concept of him having parents, but it's an interesting inclusion to the subject.
And what depths it has. Seriously his site is awsome but it's like a spider web sometimesspiraldoor wrote: ~Matthias's Fanpage seems to have old stuff on it, like references to Creol and Red Rum. I will now go to in and...plumb its...depths...
....has anyone actually talked to the real Matthias?
Re: New info from old R2 site?
His site's grown into a spider web because he hasn't really updated any design or layout elements while continuously adding more and more information as new games come out.
I find it amazing alone that he still updates that website.
