Question about Windows 7

Post by Tobbe »

Ok, I've got a couple of questions for all you haxxors out there:

I've recently downloaded a pirate version of Windows 7 Ultimate, and I was planning on installing it sometime during next week. Meanwhile, my dad has ordered Windows 7 Home Premium legit. So now I have the choice of installing either my pirated version of Ultimate, or the legit copy of Home Premium. My first question is: If I choose to install my pirated Ultimate version, am I going to have any problems with it that I wouldn't have with a legit copy? Updating it, for example? The second question is: What are the biggest differences between Ultimate and Home Premium?

Sometimes, you can trick it into thinking it's legit and update to a point.

I usually go legit though, because there's always that Genuine Advantage update whatever that comes out eventually. :P

As for differences between Ultimate and Home Premium.. I find there aren't that many advantages, besides the rights to previous OS'. So you can load on Windows 98 if you so choose.

It especially screws you over if you're on a used PC or something. :(

Don't worry, Windows 7 was already cracked, so you can find illegal copy's that you can update perfectly and where Windows Genuine Advantage isn't really a problem. It's quite funny, Windows 7 wasn't out yet, and already it was cracked, he he, pour capitalist MS suckers :P

Are you going to want to use old software ? -> go for the ultimate edition
Are you going to use the newest software ? -> go with Home Premium
Actually want a good experience ? -> go download Ubuntu Karmic Koala

So, what are the big differences between the two versions?

Just kidding :P I just couldn't resist it. You're a gamer wright ? Well, then you won't exactly fall in love with Linux.

On topic, i would just go for Home Premium. As a home user, you won't exactly have much benefit from Ultimate above Home Premium. And you could always install Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows XP in a dual boot setup if you really wish to use some old applications that won't run in Windows 7.

I would go with Home Premium. For Vista, I chose Ultimate because of the Extras, but they're gone now, so I don't see any real advantage for normal users.

Windows Vista is the worst O.S. ever made by Microsoft. :tssk:

I'm going to have Windows 7 Home Premium on my new laptop, it shall arrive next week... but what I really wanted to see working isn't included on Home Premium: Windows XP Mode. :( I need Professional or Ultimate... However I decided to participate on a contest from a magazine, which is offering licenses of Windows 7 Ultimate, who knows if I have luck?

That's what I thought about Vista until I actually got my hands on a brand new Vista desktop. Now every computer here is Vista'd except for Megan's old PC.

The search is sure a hell of a lot better, and I love the simple fact that they have a bar beneath a hard-drive showing how much space is used. :\

But I recommend you getting Windows 7, it is way less heavy.

Personally, I'll wait till around...late December, or early January, before switching to Win7. A number of more crucial bugs will probably be discovered and repaired by then, so it'll be even more stable and reliable than it might already be.

I haven't bothered looking into Windows 7; Is it something I must buy, or should I just stick with my XP Professional?

Depends on what you use it for. Personally, with the rate technology is growing I think it's not that wise to have such a gap in OS-generations, but XP remains a pretty good one to this day, so you might as well use it for another year or two even. Don't forget that MS will probably start forcing people to switch in time, pulling support off after a while. As far as I remember though, XP is supported till 2012, so till then, unless you want to play the newest games, I don't think there's any dire need to switch.

XP is supported until 2010, and you have to pay for support afterwards (except for critical security updates) until 2014, when they'll discontinue support altogether.
