I also recommend Rayman Revolution due to the ammount of differences that has got compared to the original versions.

Then there are those who don't want to get a PS2.
I think another game in the same style would be great. I guess the PSX version fits that description for those who haven't played it.

It really depends upon what sort of things you like in a game though, to be honest. I actually hate Revolution, simply because it ruins the atmosphere and just the simplistic sort of genius the original game had. Instead, it makes it out to be more like Sonic Adventure or something complete with a hub and useless additional things that just complicate matters... another game I just couldn't bring myself to remotely like.

Not that I'm completely against "complex" sort of games though... Like possibly Bioshock or Hitman: Blood Money being examples. It's just that it's never been what Rayman's been about in my mind. The map should be simple. Powers should be simply acquired, and buying a power early on simply by collecting so many lums in the early levels (accumulation) shouldn't totally break the game by enabling the ability to kill almost every pirate in one hit. >:(

Magic powers should be "magic." (Come on, you need a lum just for a wimpy throw of the fist!? What happened to just having Globox giving you the electric attack deal? Was that really necessary?!) Rayman 2 isn't about fighting, and in fact, I can still leap over every pirate and skip a battle 90% of the time, which further re-enforces the fact that they were just added in "just because."

The game lags the PS2 in open areas, and in fact, the environments are occasionally buggy (I killed myself simply going up a hill on the walking shell without pressing X to speed up the hill).

I know I rant about this game so much whenever it's brought up, but...

I just think the game sucks because it's a simple, already perfect, game bogged down with "crap."

My main problem with Revolution is that several levels were screwed up, critically affecting to the coherence of the game itself.

I think a good example of that would actually just be the Bayou, where you free Bzzit. Seems tacked on, thrown in, plus you can sequence break and actually visit the swamps first if you want, making you sort of have to work harder once you find out "Oh hey! They put the Cave of Bad Dreams at the END instead of the BEGINNING! >:( FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-" Though, if I remember correctly from last I played, they did give you a portal to the Cave of Bad Dreams, so it wasn't so bad I guess... though I did love how it was in the original R2. It seems in the quest to make it open-ended, they instead made the levels more linear.

Plus I notice some people call this the hardest version of R2 when really, I can tell they made it easier. The piranhas don't quite attack as much, and the big fish they added in (which as I can recall, was actually a scrapped concept) is really just pointless... :\ Really, I can say I never died with Sssam's bit in RR, but I still do at least once in regular ol' R2.

And then you can break the game by buying Accumulation early, effectively making Rayman a walking, running, jumping tank that can kill any pirate in one hit if he so chooses. :proud: But I mentioned that already. It just annoys me so much that I had to mention it again. :fou: It's nice that they come up with ideas for so many new pirates, but don't bother to give too many of them varying health points nor make good use of them through intuitive level design, but rather just stick them in random places in the already existing maps.

Lesson Learned: If you want a Rayman game with decent fighting, don't buy Revolution. Buy Rayman 3.

Comparing Rayman Revolution with Sonic Adventure?!

Anyway, my original R2 is the PC version, where I'm more expert.

And I finally my friend lend me his Dreamcast, but I still cannot put the TV having image... I think that the video cable is a RF...

You can get scart leads for the dreamcast but unless your TV is like really new you should be able to plug the RF into the aerial socket and then tune in, that's what I do with mine.

Don't know much about LCDs but you should have an aerial socket in your CRT TVs.

Aerial sockets? Why wouldn't a telly have those? Anyway, I have a 2006 LCD TV here, using it as a monitor ATM. It has an aerial socket. So I'm sure that Haruka's LCDs would have them too.

Well, it's the same general concept. A hub area (in SA's case, the town) where you acquire powers, unlock new levels, and what-not... It just overall bogs down the game and makes it slower compared to what it used to be (speeding through level after level, with maybe a map screen in-between).

Game developers these days don't seem to realize that if you intend to make a fast paced game, you don't make it "open ended" because hubs, free-roaming maps, etc. tend to be slow paced. Rayman 2 was fun because it was slick, fast, and actually somewhat challenging because it sometimes required a quick mind. Sonic was the same way, and it makes me face-palm every time Sonic Team, or really any other dev. team fails to realize that a hub SLOWS THE GAME DOWN because the player has to figure out where to go next. It's pulling out a map and wandering around for that extra 1-10 minutes thinking, "Oh now where is the game supposed to be?"

I'm not against slower-paced games. Unreal, Undying, Far Cry 2, Crysis, etc. all have their pacing. FC2 feels like fail as well in this aspect, but at the same time, I can't hold it against the game completely. I can, however, hold it against Rayman Revolution, Sonic 2006, Sonic Unleashed, and really, just about any of the major 3D Sonic games aside from the Wii ones for doing this.

Oh you are refering to the white squares on the wall with two holes, one for TV's antenna and the other? (That I don't know what is for)

No no no not that, this is what I mean, the one that says RF OUT.

And the Dreamcast's RF cable is one of these right?

Yes, that's it. Now I will check out the other thing...

EDIT: Nevermind, afterall I was doing all right before asking this question, what was missing was the fact of searching for the DC's channel on TV.
It works now, after I'll start to give my oppinion about the DC version. :D

EDIT 2: I on the 20% percentage, and I must say that I'm quite amazed how smoothly the game runs, always 60 FPS. It is so smooth controlling Rayman!
But I'm with a problem now... The Dreamcast resets to the main menu when I reach Axel screen. :boon:
Did this happened with you Stacey?

Oh dear, the classic resetting problem. There's only one cure for that and that is to open it up and clean up whatever dust is in around the lens.

When I arrive to school on Monday and finding my friend I'll already tell him that his Dreamcast needs medical attention.

OMG, matches to press on those holes? What's worst is that the console isn't mine, and I fear to do something bad on it, otherwise I would open it right now... Geez. Thanks for the video Stacey, now I'm not really sure what to do about that problem. XD

I have to admit I was a little scared that my dreamcast would blow up like fuck if I got the cleaning process all wrong but it went OK with care and following the videos exactly as they say. I have never had a problem with my console or the game ever since.

Because I already played the Sanctuary level for around 7 times and it ALWAYS reset on Axel's first appearance scene... X_X I don't believe it is the CD because until there the game runs perfectly!

Is it possible to take the dreamcast to a special hardware cleaners instead of doing it at home?
