I've noticed this thread has been dormant for quite some time now. Weird, considering all the cases of paedophilia being uncovered in the Catholic Church these days. Apparently the Vatican now blaims the entire thing on homosexuality. Yet another nugget of verbal crap coming from the propaganda department of the World's largest crime syndicate. :|

Those stories about the Church cover-ups started coming out in Ireland months ago. They only seem to have started receiving more global attention in past few weeks, especially since it turned out that the organisation of the paedophilia cover-ups goes all the way up to the pope himself. Did you hear about Richard Dawkins's plan to have the pope arrested for “crimes against humanity”?

I've heard the Church say that a “lapse in faith” is what caused the abuses (taking the blame off the priests in question and implying that a stronger faith in Catholicism will make everything better...), but what they've said about homosexuality is curious. Aren't a great number of the children sexually abused by clerics boys? It would seem that a large fraction of the paedophile priests running around are either gay or bisexual.

I believe in God for the most part. Sometimes I have trouble believing fully though because of conflicts with the tenth dimension. I don't go to church because I'm sure the watcher-over would rather us know in our heads that were grateful for what he's done and sacrificed. I don't think he'd want us wasting our time speaking it out loud in a building when he knows we do it in our head all the time.

I personally think any religion is fine except atheism.

I mean history has shown us just how dangerous it is to mix science and atheism. Look at the nazis for instance; social darwinists who wanted to "purge" jews in the name of "evolution", an atheistic philosophy. Yet despite it being responsible for what is perhaps the greatest disaster the world has ever seen, atheism still seems to be going strong today??

Actually, to take this further, I personally find it a little disturbing that so many can fail to have a grasp on reality, especially considering the number of times it's been disproven. However, I predict that as technology and science advances, and especially as the freedom to share information via the web increases, atheism will be gradually left behind in favour of more rational philosophies.

Uh I'm pretty much an atheist. =/ but I don't have anything against jews either barring their dumb diet laws and all that lark.

Yay, finally some action in this thread again! :)

Atheism is not a religion.

Uhm, what? The Germans were Christians, and Hitler himself was an Austrian Catholic. And where did you get the idea that the Nazis wanted to exterminate the Jews in "the name of Evolution"? The reasons for the pursuit of the Jews were largely the poor social and economic circumstances in Interwar Germany, which combined with the Nationalist mindset that dominated Europe back in those days, was a fertile breeding ground for extreme political ideologies, such as Naziism. Hitler's race ideology was largely his own creation, and there's no credible evidence that can link it to Darwinian Evolution, which he publicly denounced. To say that Evolution is responsible for the Holocaust is a pretty bold claim, and it's almost certainly plain wrong.

And what's this hogwash about Evolution being an atheistic philosophy. It's not a philosophy, but a scientific theory built around hard, imperical evidence. It's just as much a philosophy as quantum mechanics. And while you may be technically correct that Evolution is atheistic, so is every scientific theory! Evolution, along with the Theory of Gravity and Germ Theory, describe how phenomena occur by natural processes, with no magic required. You will not find any scientific theory which has a deity as one of its fundamental theories (note that Intelligent Design is not a theory. It's not even a hypothesis. It's not even a coherent idea).

What has been disproven, exactly? Atheism? When did this happen? Your prediction also fails, as the freedom of speech and information already has proven to be deadly to religion, especially the more extreme varieties such as Creationism. Religion thrives in environments where it has a monopoly on information, so that its followers may not be influenced by other mindsets that may lead them away from it. In the open forum of the internet, many of the claims made by religion which survives on a local scale because everybody around you believes in them, are quickly shot down by people who know better. Do take a look at this great video I found on YouTube:

It bears all the characteristics of a religion.

Funny how an atheist would know so much about nazi philosophies. Hmm...

Hahaha! Evolution! Scientific! I like that. :hehe:
Tobbe wrote: It's just as much a philosophy as quantum mechanics. And while you may be technically correct that Evolution is atheistic, so is every scientific theory!
If science has anything to do with atheism then why does science keep disproving it?
Tobbe wrote: Evolution, along with the Theory of Gravity and Germ Theory, describe how phenomena occur by natural processes, with no magic required.
Sorry, I believe in fact not myth. Thanks. You're not one of those "atheism is scientific" types are you? Combining science with atheism is just ridiculous.
Tobbe wrote:You will not find any scientific theory which has a deity as one of its fundamental theories (note that Intelligent Design is not a theory. It's not even a hypothesis. It's not even a coherent idea).
Who said anything about intelligent design?

You haven't heard? Despite mounds of scientific evidence?
Tobbe wrote:Your prediction also fails, as the freedom of speech and information already has proven to be deadly to religion,
By religion I assume you mean the religion of atheism especially.

Hence why many religions, including atheism, are a dying breed.

Tell me, if atheism is such a moral religion why is it historically so closely linked to nazism? why is it that, if atheism is such a great religion, as you say, it's responsible for the impingement of scientific progress? and how, how, how has it possible survived to this day despite all morality and science contradicting it?
