@Holy Crap and PlumGMK: He's not holding the Protoon in his hands, it's floating between them.
@Phoenixan: Yeah, it was done in demonstration. I still need to find a way to zoom out the views.
@Rayman4321: Yeah, well, I hope so. :)

So, since it's been a bit more than a month without updates, I thought I needed to post here to give you all some news.
And that news is that I'll make another video quite soon ( one that'll actually be in widescreen, yay ).
That is, as soon as more the sound effects are added in, there is a view zooming system, and I finished replacing the music. ;)
I think you'll be surprised to see how beautiful the game has become in motion just because of all the nice things I added since the last video.

No screenshots yet, as there isn't anything to show yet. :P

There is something I'd like to ask you though. I think I may ditch the idea of reusing the Rayman 1 worlds ( except for Candy Chateau ), and use 5 other worlds instead ( the story would stay exactly the same, as it's not that much world-related ). One would be a magical and dark rainforest with glowing plants, etc. Another would be a mountains world but different than the blue mountains. There would also be a lava level in that same world. I don't know about the other worlds yet though. I'd love them to have the Rayman 2 magical feeling. So, what other worlds would you like to see? :)

Since this game is set in the R1 valley (I think), an interesting direction to take it in might be to explore what some other parts of the valley might be like. In other words, half the worlds could be natural (forest, mountain, cave) and half of them imaginary (music, image, candy).

You've already suggested forest, mountain and candy in your post above...so perhaps you should have one more natural world (a glacier world, for example), and two more imaginary worlds (such as a mechanical world, or an organic world).

That would leave you with three natural worlds and three imaginary worlds...it would mirror R1's themes well, and could provide opportunity for R2-esque magic (an entirely mechanical world could be a sort of Robo-Pirate base, a glacier world could have nighttime levels, with stars and transparent ice and reflections and things, and an organic world could be part of some kind of colossal enemy that you have to fight at the end...).

Spiral, thanks. Your ideas are awesome! ^^

The game is indeed set in other parts of the R1 valley ( actually the parts to the right of the R1 world map ). Candy Chateau is certainly in it, so that's one of the 6 worlds for certain. Still, it'll be a lot different to the one in R1, as you'll actually get to travel INSIDE it now.

The magical, but dark forest ( with waterfalls so it's a bit like the world in the R2 beta ) is almost certain to be used as a first world ( I even have a name for it to parody R1's Dream Forest: Nightmare Woods! :P ).

A glacier world could be used as a second world, though I don't know yet. It's a really good idea and it would fit the story well, but I don't know... I'll think about this more.

A mountain world isn't certain yet - maybe something else as a third world where I could place a volcano at the end ( for the lava level, which is kinda necessary for the story and also just because I love the lava levels in R2 )?

The 4th world can't be a mechanical world, that's for sure, since there are already some pirate levels throughout the game, one in each world, actually. And the real "Robo-Pirate base" is already in the story, just before you enter the castle in the last world. It's crucial for the story that it's there and nowhere else, because something happens there. So yeah, I don't know about this world yet. I'd love this world to take place somewhere in the sky though, or at least the last level, because for Picture City ( which was going to be the 4th world ), it was planned that Electrix would cross a rainbow, and at "the dark side of the rainbow", it'd start to fade and he'd fall right into the water, where he'd be captured by Space Mama ( in viking outfit ^^ ) and her pirates. :P
I'd like to keep this ( but put someone else instead of Space Mama, and maybe change the pirates to robo-pirates ). Well, at least he'd have to fall into the water, maybe the fight could take place in the sky. But he has to fall into the water, because there's a swimming level next, and then a level that takes place in some kind of submarine, overrun by antitoons.

Normally, he'd escape and end up on the shores right in front of the Caves of Skops then, but this could change. Spiral gave me an awesome idea for the 5th world. What if he escaped, and instead of ending up on the shores right in front of the Caves of Skops, he'd end up in the belly of a gigantic monster fish? :P
Because of all the creatures the fish swallowed, there'd even be a village and a bar ( Joe's bar! Because Joe is also necessary for the plot... ) inside.
There'd be something evil inside the fish too though, something that has always plagued the village and Joe's bar ( well, at least since the fish swallowed it XD ).
Killing it would make its 'blood', lava/acid/some other thing that's also deadly, kill the fish ( but also make you run ), and, you'd end up in a pool of water... with a peculiar taste. It tastes sweet. You're in Candy Chateau! XD

I could still just keep the R1 worlds too, but I think it'd be a lot more original if I changed the worlds, and the enemies and bosses. There'd be just so much more I could do. :)

The mechanical world wouldn't necessarily have to be connected to the Robo-Pirates in any way; it could just be a land made of pistons and turbines and things, in the same way that Picture City is made of art materials. Maybe it could also be a floating world, kept suspended in the air by some kind of steam-powered windmilly airship thing. It could also be surrounded by walk-able clouds (being constantly puffed out by the steam-powered engines), and rainbows, perhaps with the "dark side of the rainbow" sequence happening at the end of the world, with the mechanical world's (steampunk-looking?) boss replacing Space Mama.

Yes...you could say that the giant fish has eaten bits of the other worlds...this could be a complete mixture of various levels from the series if you wanted it to be...

~Have you already decided what evil presence is inside the fish? If not, it could be a Black Lum (even André, if that fits the story), controlling or corrupting the fish with his evil influence, a la Globox in R:HR.

You know, it actually sounds better now. I'll think about it some more. ;)

Yeah, good idea, it's actually something I thought about while I was typing that post. ^^
If I use the fish idea ( which I probably will, since it's quite a good one ), I'll certainly put some cameos of some Rayman things in it. Maybe I'll include a dead rabbid too. XD

And another good idea! I'll certainly consider it. :P

So, any other ideas for the second, third ( and maybe fourth ) worlds? Then please tell me! :)

Every game needs a pretty water & ice world. :P That's all I can say. It doesn't even have to have slippery platforms.

There is a swimming level already :P

Rayman 2 didn't have an ice world. :P
I might use an ice world with some beautiful icy caves and some awesome nightly landscapes as a second world though.

I'll think about it more, and let you know when I've decided ;)

Well, it had the Sanctuary of Water and Ice.

Which was more water and pretty blue stone walls than ice. XD

Oh yeah, forgot about that one. XD
For world 2, I may use a huge ice fissure with a temple much like the one in the Sanctuary of Water and Ice hidden in a cave at the bottom. ^^

The background to the ice world (if you use it) should have both the moons (they should look like they did in R3) and lots of twinkling stars (like the Fairy Council), perhaps a Hall of Doors-ish feel. There should also be some of the Blue Mountains' curtain-like aurorae, but they should be animated this time, as if fluttering in the wind...
Drolpiraat wrote:So, any other ideas for the second, third ( and maybe fourth ) worlds? Then please tell me! :)
For an imaginary world, perhaps a land of fabric, with sack-like (perhaps even Hoodlumish) enemies held together by stitches, and carpet-like fields stretching off into the distance, and blanket-like mountains, and curtains for clouds. And spools and things. You'd have to include spools somehow.

For a natural world, how about a farm of some sort? It could have Minisauruses which lay eggs which hatch into Denys. And if the Minisauruses get spooked, they lay dead eggs which hatch into Zombie Chickens. Perhaps the farmer could be some kind of cruel, Rigatoni-type character. Or an evil scarecrow. Or both. There should also be combine harvesters of some sort. I don't think this is actually a very good idea, but I decided to post it anyway, just in case it gives you a good idea (like the fish thing). I will come back and post any more world ideas I get.

Edit: I thought about the farm thing some more; maybe it could include crop circles somehow. It should be noted that fields of corn can be very creepy at night (MediEvil for the PS1 did this well).

~And something I forgot to say about the mechanical world: it should have clockwork stuff going on. Perhaps even some time-travel. That is all.

Well, since it's been quite a long time since the last update... Here finally is one! :D
... even though it's kinda small.

I've been busy with other things, like school, life, and music. Oh yeah - music!
Here is some for you, from the least epic to the most epic.
The Temple of Forgiveness - This one plays ( looping ) in the temple showed in the video. It's not as good as the following two songs, but still okay.
The Song of the Sea - This song is sung ( yes, sung - in Raymanian, with an English translation in the subtitles ) by a little alien girl ( like Joe ) in the belly of the monster fish ( world 5 ). It's pretty short. It loops twice in this track, then fades out.
The Storm of the Sea - Battle version of the above song... and quite epic, too. It's obviously played in the world 5 boss battle. I'm having some trouble removing pops and clicks from this one, so that might be annoying. As soon as I manage to get rid of them, I'll also upload a version that actually loops and fades out like the other two songs.

Also, in case you're interested, here's another full-length ( 4:28! ) song made by myself, but not for Eclipse... even though one of the themes I'm going to use in Eclipse is partly in there. Some may have already heard it on my Youtube account, but this is a newer version of the song, called Heartbeats. So here it is, Heartbeats! Mind you that this version is complete, except for the lyrics which still have to be added to it - but I don't think you want to hear me singing. XD

I'm going to rewrite the story as well this holiday, so the new worlds fit perfectly. I've got the whole story in my mind, the only thing I still need to do is write it down. It's going to be more epic than it already was - and my sister almost cried after reading the last version. :D

And I really need to start working on coding or drawing again - but that gets so boring after a while! And it takes so much work!
But don't worry, I'll continue. ;)

Thanks :)
More music is coming soon.
And more beautiful pictures of the new menu screen I have in mind, too. With waving grass, waving trees and waving hair, falling blue leafs, rising stars, awesome sun bloom, water, etc.
Image
This is part of the menu screen I drew on school paper, but the sky isn't supposed to be pink. It sure looks epic so far though, so I thought I'd post it anyway.

Hey!
Nice work, and that drawing of the menu screen looks very promising!

Also, the original demo seems to be impossible to download lately. Could you maybe consider uploading it again ? It's always interesting to see how a game was in the very early stages. And this game got really far compared to the original demo!

Strange... It's still available ( http://rapidshare.com/files/43840829/Demotoons.zip ).

Also, here's a quick and bad demonstration of Electrix' new waving and Cloud-y hair.

I really can't make animated gifs. It looks a lot better in the game itself.
I wanted to record a video, but FRAPS was being an ass, and CamStudio or Hypercam just won't do.

Don't get me wrong here : but i don't hope the waving hair of Electrix in the game is the same as in that animation. Since in that animation the hair just seems to be, well... "vibrating".

I would suggest to make the hair that's near the face blows up and once it's up it would blow towards left ( or the opposite direction Electrix's facing ) with the rest of the hair. Also, make the hair go up and down just a bit when it's being blown to the left.
Strange... It's still available ( http://rapidshare.com/files/43840829/Demotoons.zip ).
You'll get an error once you choose to download it as a free user. But it doesn't mind that much, it was just something i noticed ;)

Don't worry, it really doesn't "vibrate" in the game. It just does on that horrible quality gif. :P
I'll also try to upload the demo to mediafire soon, just not this weekend because I have something very important for my private life to do.
I just thought I'd post here to say that a small video is coming on Monday, which will have something to do with my life, but will also show you how smoothly the hair waves, how awesomely the grass ( yep, the grass too! :D ) waves, and how great this game can look. Oh, and Electrix' new guitar-playing idle animation. =D
Here are also two amazing screens of the amazing landscape you will get to see in the video. Don't they look amazing? Yeah, they do! And trust me, they look even BETTER in the game... because everything moves there. You can see everything moves by comparing the two screens. ;)
Sadly, I will probably have to drop that landscape, because only awesome computers like mine can actually run it.
Image

Image

In short: yes, I like making useless landscapes that may not even appear in the final game, and I seem to have completely forgotten about actually working on anything else than eye candy.
