Re: Rayman Origins
I agree. Let's be happy about what we're getting!
Re: Rayman Origins
Where the heck appeared extra 1000 Tings?
You can't imagine HOW happy I got when I saw the trailer, I was for a moment thinking this wasn't true from so many appearences of Rabbids and the years running away (and the dreams I had often with a new Rayman game) but still keeping a faith that I was about to lose. And when I finished watching the trailer... god, I was shaking and just about to faint with emotion.

Hmm... a mod likes you, methinks.
i was practically squealing with joy when I finished seeing the trailer. Even the lame jokes made me laugh, I was so surprised, so goddamn happy.
I think I've seen the trailer about 127 times now.

The last time I was so excited about a game was on summer 2008.

Heehee, like a puppy
Which game got you excited in 2008?
Re: Rayman Origins
It was SPORE, but I only heard about it in December 2007, but believe me, the excitement-o-meter was lower than the one I'm having right now with Rayman Origins.

Re: Rayman Origins
Ah - I was never a huge SPORE fan. It was certainly a big thing, though
Last time I got so happy was when they announced BG&E2. Of course, now it's back in the doldrums.
Re: Rayman Origins
Unfortuneatly Rayman seems to be the only game series that still hold on through the years. Other game series got screwed or disappeared with the time.

Come one everyone, let’s all click the ‘Dislike’ buttons under these videos, and leave comments explaining to these people how stupid they are.RayrazTheRayman wrote:OK.... I have one rant and my friend rant

Re: Rayman Origins
Having read a few comments towards the start of this thread on the story direction of Rayman Origins, how are people feeling now, roughly a month onwards from the announcement at e3? Are we happy with the idea of an origin story? How about the mischevious, childlike takes on Rayman and Globox?
I'm loving it, myself. Having been playing Super Mario Galaxy 2 lately got me thinking about character development in gaming. Mario for example, is probably the single most beloved figure in video gaming history, and yet as a character he is utterly blank and uninteresting. Ever since he stomped his first goomba in the 80s the character has been aimlessly running on the spot, fueled only by a self-perpetuating torrent of nostalgia. We only like him because we've always liked him. There's something quite sad and empty about that I think.
So for Rayman to be given a proper backstory, especially one offers some real character development (his progress from uncontrollable nuisance to heroic thingamajig) can only be a good thing as far as I'm concerned.
Would love to hear everyone's thoughts.

AJack, your sig is pure awesome. If only you'd joined a bit earlier...
I think that with games like Rayman, where the play design isn't amazingly innovative (though I still think it's awesome most of the time), a good story and character is definitely needed. I always wanted the Raybox thing looked into
, and the fact that Rayman started out as a man-child makes a lot of sense to me. It'll develop him well, methinks, though I hope he's isn't too obnoxious at the beginning.
However, the game NEEDS to play well. R1 got by without a load of detail because the levels were really, really great. RO will have to be the same if it's gonna be worth it. The mechanics we've seen so far look good (Spiral mentioned the hair-spinny-thing earlier), though I do want the contact and running to be modified a bit. Also, I'm not a huge fan of the episode thing, though I don't dislike it or what not.
I'm genuinely looking forward to this - the enthusiasm hasn't died away!

I think the gameplay might be something a little different in Origins - it looks as if they're putting a lot of focus on free, fast movement rather than precise platforming, which seems like it could be a lot of fun. As for the episodic format, I'm actually a fan. I like the idea of each episode finishing with the promise of more exciting adventures on the horizon. However, the game NEEDS to play well. Re: Rayman Origins
Sure, it appears that the focus will be on speed and freedom rather than on precision, but that could just be the look they’re going for. The game may not actually feel that way when you’re playing it; it could all be a trick of the animation.AJack wrote:I think the gameplay might be something a little different in Origins - it looks as if they're putting a lot of focus on free, fast movement rather than precise platforming, which seems like it could be a lot of fun.Jewish Candy wrote:However, the game NEEDS to play well. Re: Rayman Origins
Indeed it could. Based on the look of the levels we've seen so far though, i.e. wide open spaces, clear runs etc, it does seem to be structured in favour of a faster, perhaps more casual brand of gameplay. However we've likely only seen a few fragments of the full game, so who knows how tricky and/or complex it might get?spiraldoor wrote:Sure, it appears that the focus will be on speed and freedom rather than on precision, but that could just be the look they’re going for. Re: Rayman Origins
Although I like precision platforming, I don't have too much an issue with free-running style gameplay.
I just hope that if they do opt for Mario slides, they do it well.
Re: Rayman Origins
Trailers (especially from E3) don't mean anything often. The gameplay can be a normal platformer, but the way that the trailer is done can be just to fill water on our mouths.

Re: Rayman Origins
I didn't even get to see the trailer when it was live because by then I was asleep or at least trying to sleep as usual and I pretty much refused to stay up late in case of disappointment. Then I woke up to a really shit morning, had to go to work, and then I saw that when I was expecting Rabbid rage. It truly was my DO WANT of the year, and what also made me happy about it is that it's touched even people that had either never played or HATED the Rayman series before. I'm about 99% satisfied with it myself, so I'm happy and I can't wait to play it and show off my dedication by attempting to cosplay a character from it.
Therefore those two videos just make fools of the owners, just like when AKnotholeResident made an ass of himself with his Sonic 4 rant.

Can't wait to see your nymph cosplay
kawaii yo! I always mean to do a Rayman cosplay, but so far Tily's the only one I could carry off (my face doesn't suit Ly's hair
) and I'm... not a Tily fan.
So I stick to other awesome games.
I really wanted to stay up, but I think I had a gcse the next morning, so it was nap-nap for me. God, the entire day was brilliant once I heard the news.

Re: Rayman Origins
It always bugs me that I need a purple jaclet with a white O and a red hoodie. :3
Sure it's not cosplay, but it would be kinda neat.

Re: Rayman Origins
When I was eight I wanted to go as Rayman for Halloween, but I couldn't find any plain white gloves, a red scarf or a purple shirt.
