That'd be awesome, but I doubt the DS can run this. :P The Wii probably can though.
There's no way you can get this published for any console though, because of copyright reasons. :(
@Joshua: I did that on purpose, because it looks cooler that way. ^^

Remember:
Get permission for everything you're doing -> Publish :)

Are you sure the DS wouldn't be able to run this? By that do you mean it's not powerful enough? Although I can actually picture this as a Wii game quite well.

Also was there a demo released for this game? I haven't come across one, but I thought there might have been one.

This would be sweet on Wiiware. :D
It would be goddamned hard as hell (and then some) to get permission from Ubi to publish this, or anything, really. :( This is where bribes come in.

Good idea Candish, let's start bribing Ancel :P

Rayfan, the game's resolution is too high for the DS, it uses way more particle effects than possible on DS, etc.
If it'd be on DS, I'd have to scale it down a lot and take most of the eye candy out of it.

Yeah, a demo was released but it was of horrible quality and later it got deleted by those idiots at Rapidshare. Maybe a new one will be released later this year... well, one can hope. :P

Ah, I see. Then Wii would be a good idea. :) I honestly don't think it'd be very hard to get published, because if I go to Crytek, they've published many things with Ubisoft. It shouldn't be too hard. Of course no matter how hard it is I'll make it happen.

Do you know an approximation of a new demo time? :)

Well, I'd say at the end of this year but knowing myself, that's probably going to be around this time next year :P

Same kind of thing with me. :P I take way longer than I usually say to release something, unless it's music, then I'm early or on time. Although I can't release a demo for my stuff because it... well you know why.

No. GameMaker is an Windows application. You should finely be able to run it under Unix and *NIX systems through compatibility layers like Wine, or virtual machines like VirtualBox and VMware, but that would only be on x86 and x86_64 instruction sets, which also makes you incapable of running all of these under Linux ported for Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii, because they're both based on ARM instruction set. Emulators like QEMU would make it possible for you to run Windows in other instruction sets, but those devices are damn too fucking low spec, that their memory would simply be used up before the actual operating system container could be created. Wii only has 88 MB RAM and DSi has 16 MB RAM + 8 MB Memory Expansion Pak (we don't know how much 3DS is going to have). Game Maker Language doesn't even exist for anything else than the game production tool itself. Porting your game currently isn't possible. The only way to make it cross-platform, would be to recreate the whole thing from scratch, and preferably choose C/C++ as the programming language, where you could simply use an SDK for homebrew development to make it work with such consoles. But everything of these requires much more effort than you can imagine at this time.
Drolpiraat wrote:There's no way you can get this published for any console though, because of copyright reasons. :(
And I also think you wouldn't pay for getting them published and promoted, because that costs big time money, and that would also require you to commercialize your game. But if you switched to homebrew development, when you shouldn't worry, because there is no inconsistence with fair use.
Drolpiraat wrote:it got deleted by those idiots at Rapidshare
Why the fuck are you using one of the most shitty file hosting services in the world? MediaFire has existed since 2006. But the best file hosting and file synchronization service is Dropbox, where you only would need to put your stuff in the "Public" folder and when copy the public link. It even allows hotlinking. It's also damn friggin' fast. You can register an account here.

PowerPatrick... it really wasn't necessary to come and boast with your 'knowledge' of computers ( which you should have used to think before posting instead of typing up such a needless post ). I obviously already know about Gamemaker being Windows ( and now Mac too ) only. I mean that IF I ported it to Wii by porting it to another programming language first and then optimizing the graphics, it would be able to run on it. That's not possible for DS though. I also don't even want to publish my game. ;)

About Rapidshare, it is NOT one of the most shitty file hosting services in the world at all. That's just your opinion. People have different opinions, remember? I've been using Mediafire for my own uploads for a long time now, same for box.net, yousendit for temporary uploads, etc. ;)
I still have my Rapidshare account though because it simply allows me to be a pirate ( most pirates upload their stuff there ). :P

And uh... shamelessly advertising Dropbox and linking to your own referral after making that post? Tssk tssk. :tssk: Thanks, but no thanks.

I just give the facts straight. And it was just 'needless' as the whole discussion about publishing your game for consoles, even when you aren't willing to do it.

Of course, but more untechnical people could easily be confused. They think Windows equals computer, and PC games equals the possibility for console versions. But fair enough anyway. I also completely forgot about Game Maker being for Mac too. It has actually gone up to Relase Candidate here in 2010. But I have something else to tell, you, which is also relevant to the discussion: In March, they have annonced to port Game Maker to PSP!

Rapidshare IS shitty, no matter what you say, even for piracy. I don't want to subscribe to a fucking premium account, which even doesn't bring me back the deleted content. Piracy is prohibited on every file hosting, so what is your excuse? But we aren't talking about piracy, we are talking about your game. Why don't you want to use Dropbox to publish it? No more deadlinks, as long as you manage it properly, and no more need to update the linking, when you just can drag'n'drop new revisions. Can you please explain why RapidShare is better than Dropbox, and why RapidShare isn't shitty?
And uh... shamelessly advertising Dropbox and linking to your own referral after making that post? Tssk tssk. :tssk: Thanks, but no thanks.
I am advertising Dropbox, because I am one of the most satisfied users of that service, and I actually want people to switch. It gives you friggin' everything, and does it easily. And I already have 6.5 GB storage, but the referral link also gives 250 MB extra to the one that registers, so what's the problem, seriously?

@PowerPatrick: Can you give another source of information for the "Game Maker on PSP" announcement? Since it would be really awkward if this was true. Newer PSP's don't play homebrew anymore because Sony only wants games they have approved on it and has patched all the leaks that allowed running homebrew software.

Sorry to go off-topic, Drolpiraat, but this is quite interesting.

Can you see the small number flags in Wikipedia? "blabla[1] lalaa[2]"
They're links, that points down to their references, which is their source of information. This is not homebrew, which is about making the games from scratch to PSP, but this is actually a port of their framework, where you can run the games made with Game Maker Language. But the games can possibly be retrieved through WiFi for example. They have signed up with Sony to get the official DevKit, so this is not a hacked PSP.

So you mean that you can make the games on the PSP? Or just run .gmk files on it? I don't really get it now.

Not making games on it, but being able to run the stuff that has already been made. But well, I can't tell you whenever the games is going to be intepreted GML or compiled GML, because they haven't told much about it. We must wait for their next blog entries.

Look, I could have made a really long post, and maybe it would've had a better impact on you. But I'm not even lifting my little finger to discuss with arrogant people like you, especially since you keep doing what I kindly asked you not to do, so I'll just say this instead: get out of my topic and come back when you have something interesting and less arrogant to say.

For everyone who views this topic out of interest in the game, here is another screenshot for you, which shows how far I currently am putting Mr dark in the game. I made his cloak wave to the left here, but I could also make it wave to the right or even both ways. But for this battle I'm letting it wave to the left, that way it looks like how it was in Rayman 1 ( and it just looks better IMO ). ;)
Image
Oh yeah and I didn't do the bells hanging from his hat there, that's why they're simply floating in the air.

Polopoloï kawaii! :D
Looks very nice - though the way his cloak sticks out like a tutu (Tutu? No, wrong word - it upturns at both ends) is slightly off-putting. Other than that, I like the *phwooosh cape of awesome* effect! Great job!

That looks nice. But is this the place where the boss battle with Mr. Dark will occur in the final game? Since that doesn't really makes sense ( seeing from your video, this would be set in the first world if you ask me ).

Oh, and sorry for me going off-topic, my I-want-to-know-every-little-thing-about-techy-stuff nature got me again :(

@Candish: ROFL, Mr Dark with a tutu, now you're giving me a strangely awesome picture... XD I'll try to fix that though ;)
@Josh: Well, it's the place where the FIRST battle occurs. It's like in Paper Mario, where you fight Bowser somewhere in Peach's castle at the beginning of the game, then you fail, then the real adventure starts, and at the end you get to fight him in a more fitting place. Same for this game: you first battle him at that place, then you fail, then the adventure starts, and then you fight him in Candy Chateau on the top of his tower with storms and lightning and all... epic. ^_^
Oh and I absolutely don't mind about going off-topic, but as you can see I can't stand it when people take their opinion for the truth and start being arrogant. :|

Well, when we just end the discussion? Are you happy now? :)

But I must say that your latest screenshot is really awesome... again. :D
One thing I noticed is that the Polopoloï looks sharper than the actual characters.

Since this game is set on the Valley, where should the professor be located?

Yep, I'm happy now, thanks. :)
I can't spoil the professor's location just yet though... that's a surprise for when you play it. ;)
The Polopoloï look sharper because I used some 3D functions to render them ( same with the helicopter hair ) and there's no anti-aliasing in Gamemaker. The rest of the sprites ( the ones that aren't transformed with GM's 3D functions ) aren't anti-aliased in GM itself either.
