Guess they wanted another character? I dunno. *shrug*

Speaking of dark characters... I kinda wish Dark Rayman's color scheme wasn't so odd. Mostly the glaring unbelievably opaque bright red eyes and gloves. It's hard to take him seriously. Giving D. Rayman a darker skin tone and maybe a distorted voice file or something instead of just changing his eye/clothing color would've had a better effect... then again, the voice might be a bit much since it's just a skin, but I really would have liked to see a better color scheme there instead of one so bright and awkward... :|

Why didn't they go with the R1 colour scheme?

That's what I wonder too. :boon: I think it looked a whole lot better, personally... it was weird enough to fit with the idea of a creepy evil doppelganger of Rayman without being completely unoriginal about it. It wasn't stereotypical black/red = evil like most 'evil' versions of characters tend to be... too bad they scrapped that in Rayman M/Rush/Arena. D:

Maybe if D. Rayman appears again in the future sometime for whatever reason, they'll use a different scheme... but somehow I doubt we'll be seeing him again for quite some time - if at all.

I'd love to eat my words on that though. So prove me wrong, Ubi! =P

Good question. Dark Rayman is often confused with Bad Rayman, and vice-versa.

Those look like some tasty words there.

Dark Rayman/Bad Rayman was a neat idea. I'm hoping we'll see something similar in Rayman Origins or future Rayman games.

When it comes down to it, I like Bad Rayman more than Dark Rayman. It feels weird to call someone by a 'bad' prefix, but at least it isn't stereotyped... plus I just liked how B. Rayman moved, acted, etc. in Rayman 1. That he was forced to mirror Rayman's every move, and if the two made contact, both would die instantly. It's interesting, in a way... B. Rayman is on a suicide course. Makes me wonder what the motive could have been besides following the orders of Mr. Dark... and what would happen if Bad Rayman came back somehow. =P

Is it just me or is tily faster than the other characters? :|
I set better laps by 2 seconds when I use her instead of rayman.
Same session of gameplay, both trying my hardest and taking the fastest route on both characters.
It seems like tily glides farther and does longer boosts on the ground when you drop from a jump and press triangle. When I do it with rayman it feels signifgantly slower.
And for some reason when I'm using globox it feels like he drops like a rock when I glide, but he seems to go faster on the slippery slopes..
I'm using the ps2 US version if that makes a difference, I know it's the same as rayman M but with the name changed for the us because M means mature on the esrb lol

I think you are just imagining. I never spotted performance differences in any of the 8 characters.

Honestly I've tested this too... Me and my cousin were racing a week ago when he came from maryland to massachusets for the week. (were both really good, we've played this game since we were 6 and it first came out when he used to live in massachusets, 10 minutes away from my house. he had it for his pc and I had it for my ps2. we would go head to head when he came to my house  ) and we both jumped on the slippery section in pipe maze at the beginning at the same time, we both did a kick boost on it, and he went zooming ahead as globox while I was right behind him as rayman...

Anyone want to share any lap times?

Nn, I dunno bout that... I've played against both players and CPUs that play as Tily and I pretty much win 95% of the time without using her. I think it has to do with personal preference and sort of an inlaid belief that "I think I'll do better with this character...". Because you think that, you probably will perform better with them.

Personally I've completed the bonus stage Run, Run(the one where you're trying to avoid being hit by the approaching wall/wave thing through various obstacles coming from the bottom of the screen) with every single one of the characters to see whether it made a difference - despite a few setbacks and tripping up caused by pure carelessness on my part with a few characters, I was able to complete the challenge with each character on the first try of doing it. I used Run, Run as a test since it's one of the things I find most challenging and enjoyable in races(takes a lot of practice and a good bit of muscle memory, it does), and if I had trouble completing it with a certain character over another, I'd tell right away whether there was a huge difference.

Then again, whether you like the background music of your character can contribute as well. Personally I kind of cringe at Razorwife's singing most of the time, some of them I just don't notice because I neither like or dislike them, and the ones I like either help me out or slow me down(as in I start listening to the music instead of paying attention =P). But yeah... I've played as all characters, didn't notice any difference besides maybe that chubbier or wider characters would obscure your field of vision a bit more in some instances. But that's to be expected and it wasn't fatal.

I think it really depends on how much you like the character, or at least it's affected me in the past. If you like the character you'll feel more inclined to perform well with them, and if you don't like them much or don't care you probably won't get as much enjoyment out of it.

Or maybe you just feel slower or faster depending on the character animation even though it's the same; when I play as Rayman he runs forward super-fast when I go on a dash panel and tap the action button repeatedly, while when I do it with the Teensies they do an awkward rolling position - while quite humorous, it somehow doesn't feel like it should be going as fast even though it does. And perhaps with the floating time with Tily, since she's fluttering and is smaller than... say... Globox, it'll feel like Globox would hit the ground first because his animation inflates him and makes him even bigger. Since the animation on screen is different, it might throw you off when you're used to something else.

But again, personal preference. As Raymale up above just said, Globox went faster than him in Pipe Maze; but I've played as Rayman and zipped past Globox - or any other character - with ease on both that stage and any other with slippery surfaces. If nothing else, try switching characters with the person you're playing against to see if it makes a difference. I believe that the thing here is dependent on where you're sliding, how you're controlling it, whether you run into the wall/obstacle or go side to side a lot more, etc. If you get a sort of 'feel' for the way the slipperiness is going, it's really easy to get past it without slowing down while other players might have trouble since they're less accustomed to it in the same way.

Rayman is my preferred character by far. Teensies come in second, and I also like one skin on the Hunchman/Henchman 800 sometimes. If I feel like being silly I'll also sometimes play as Razorbeard. I have lots of different characters I prefer to play as, and as I said before, even if I don't play as them usually or don't like them(Dark Globox and Razorwife spring to mind) I can still play well as them, if a little distracted by my annoyance/dislike for the character I'm playing as.

Ehhh, that's my take on it anyways. Oh geez, wall of text... at least it isn't as huge as some of them can go. Guess I have a lot to say. xP

I've noticed a disadvantage with Razorbeard in battle mode. You know all the characters do some sort of dance at the beginning of the battle with the countdown? Well, razorbeard has one animation where he falls on the ground, and when the game starts, he is uncontrollable for half a second or so! The rest of the characters don't have this.

I think someone should do an actual speed test on all the characters. Or at least get the values from the game somehow.
