Rayman Arena or M?

Post by Rayfist »

You guys I have a question. I bought this game from amazon long ago called, "Rayman 10th anniversary" for pc. It came with... rayman 2, rayman 3, and... Rayman Arena for windows xp? Last time I checked amazon it said that rayman arena for pc will ONLY run on Windows 95 / 98 / Me. And rayman M will run on XP. But I don't FULLY understand and I am so confused. Now I heard rayman arena pc has something called "Lan game" which I don't know what that is but I think it involves something with playing with other people. Now I got disc 1 and 2 of rayman arena for xp.

Now here is the real question. Does rayman M have lan support and do you think rayman arena from the anniversary pack is still just rayman M in disguise? And what is "lan support"?
Edit: I just checked amazon and it said the 10th anniversary collection has rayman M on it. But my box didn't say that at ALL! Was this perhaps a different version? It was the same boxart just with rayman arena. Can someone help. I'll take a picture later!
Edit 2: OK! I found a pic. Now this game is running on my xp so I don't fully understand. When I checked "Rayman Arena PC" On amazon it came up saying it would only play on the other windows. Here is a pic of the one I bought.

The only difference with M and Arena are the names.
M = PAL (E)
Arena = NTSC (U)

I still wonder what lan game is for though. And why is arena running on my xp.

Lan game is just that you can play the game multipayer between different players on different computers connected trough a LAN-Cable
And it most likely runs on xp if it originaly was for 95/98 or ME, xp has backwards compatibility from older systems

I'm sure that pack is from USA, since the cover from R3 is equal to mine (Yes, it is from USA too).

I'm sure that Arena must work in XP, if M does, so it will the Arena version.

Arena and M are the exact same. And they work fine on XP, it's just that it I believe was released just prior to XP's release. They work on Windows Vista and Windows 7; (not completely properly, but they do.

(FYI, I also have the 10th anniversary collection.)

Or maybe didn't want to put that.

My guess is they forgot, they hadn't thought of it yet, or they didn't have enough time. Why would they not want network support on a predominantly multiplayer game beats me.

By the way, they say M was called Arena in the USA because people would think it stands for mature :P

Which is quite silly in my personal opinion. :lol: The American people took the name too much serious!

Of course it's stupid :P If they would read the title a little bit better you can clearly see 'multiplayer'. Also, there's a rating on the game cover.

Yeah why the hell would the rating be absolutely huge in the middle of the cover in the font? :boon:
Conclusion: The vast majority of american's are really really stupid.

Not to mention the fact that the actual ESRB logo with a great big ‘E’ on it would be clearly visible right next to the game’s title...

Well, I suppose one thing to consider at the time of this game's release, Unreal Tournament, Quake 3 Arena, and the like were already big shooter titles. Introducing a "Rayman M" multiplayer game to America would have probably at first given the impression of "SHIT YEAH, A RAYMAN GAME WITH EXPLOSIVES AND BLOODY GIBS."

Leading to a great amount of disappointment, than confusion.

People who are stupid enough to think that it's that kind of game deserve disappointment and confusion.

I find that offensive and stereotypical :(

Bad Guy was being sarcastic, Raymale :wink:
He's simply saying that if there was a good reason for the change, Americans would have to be really stupid. So he's saying that there was no point in the change in a very European way :P
