Raymans 15th Anniversary Party!

Do you know what that means? Today is the fifteenth anniversary of Rayman! So let's celebrate!

I will be hosting a speedrun of Rayman 1 and Rayman 2, as well as a high score run of Rayman 3.

This will be split up into challenges. A wave of challenges (one level to speedrun in R1 and R2 and one point to get a high score by in R3) will be started every hour and each will end every two hours (so wave 1 could start at 8:00, wave 2 could start at 9:00, wave 1 would end at 10:00, wave 2 would end at 11:00, etc.), with whoever was the most successful being declared the winner and receiving 50 tings and 1 point. Whoever has the most points by 9:30 EST will win some large amount of tings! (Probably one thousand, but we'll see :mefiant: )

GENERAL RULES:

-Only one submission per challenge. Don't submit a speedrun/high score until you're sure it's your best! No redoes!
-PM your submissions to me. The title of the PM should be Rayman X Challenge Y: Z, where X is which game you’re playing, Y is the challenge number, and Z is your score. For example, if you completed challenge 3 of R1 in 5:25, the title would be Rayman 1 Challenge 3: 5:25.
-If I make a mistake and you turn out not to be the winner, please be a good sport and donate the 50 tings back to me.
-No hacks, mods, cheats, photoshop, etc.
-Glitches are allowed.
-In the event of a tie, all who tied get 25 tings and 1 point. For speed runs, there is 1 second of pardon time (so if someone gets 1 second faster than you, you tie)
-Whoever has the most points by 9:30 PM EST win!
-I can change the rules whenever I want.

RAYMAN 1 RULES:

-Come into each level as powered up as you desire. For example, if we were speedrunning the first level, you could still play the level with all of your end game powers (this will also cause the sections where Betilla gives you powers to be skipped - fair game). You may come in with gold fists, as much health and lives as you desire, etc.
-Your time will be calculated from the moment the level starts to the moment the last exit sign is reached. Edit the loading times out if you desire, but don't edit out anything else.
-If you neglect to edit out the loading times, too bad! If the loading times add on fifteen seconds, and this is the difference that causes you to fall short of someone who did edit out the loading times, that is fair game and you have lost fairly. Editing out anything else will cause you to get disqualified.
-Electoons count for nothing.
-If it lags...too bad. Sorry, it would be too difficult to calculate times with lag factored in.
-If there is a difference between versions, use the PS1 version.

RAYMAN 2 RULES:

-Teensie cages count for nothing. Nor do yellow lums.
-Come into the level as powered up as you desire. You could, for example, play the first level with maximum health and the most powerful shots.
-No PS1 or PS2 version.
-The time is recorded from when the beginning cutscenes end to when the last spiral door is touched. If there is no last spiral door, it will be until the final cutscene starts.
-Skip mid level cutscenes as fast as possible, they count for your time!
-Edit out loading times, but nothing else. Anything else edited out causes disqualification. If you neglect to edit the loading times out and this causes you to come a few seconds short of victory, too bad, you've lost.

RAYMAN 3 RULES:

-You don't have to record anything. Each challenge will be an object to reach, and you must reach that point and take a screenshot of the object. Your score counter must be visible.
-You may go as far past the object as possible, as long as you can backtrack to take a screenshot of it.
-If the object is destroyable or can disappear (for example, a Matuvu), you may not destroy it or make it disappear.
-You must start each world with an empty score counter. For example, if the object was Count Razoff, you must start the Bog of Murk with a score of zero, then play forward to where Razoff is.
-Winning a score challenge is worth 2 points but still only 50 tings.

:yeah: TIPS :yeah:

-There are many options for screen recording. I personally use CamStudio.
-If you decide to try the R3 high score runs, don’t bother quitting the game when you’re done (or at least save it). Challenge 5 will probably be an object just a bit ahead of challenge 4, so why would you quit the game?

:yeah: CHALLENGES :yeah:

Sounds to me like someone forgot all about the existence of the Atari Jaguar and PC versions of the game, both of which were released considerably earlier than the 1st of September, 1995. And the fact that Michel Ancel had created the character several years before the release of any of them.

It might be a good idea to question the feasibility of these challenges. I mean, haven't I automatically won the R3 ones? As far as I can gather, no active members here have a higher score than me, thus it would be impossible for them to reach any stage with a superior score. Also, I wouldn't imagine many members would want to record their playing just for the sake of entering some competition... a few years back maybe, but today? And what about non-PC members who don't have access to the software you suggested? Are they supposed to record their progress with digital cameras or something?

I hope this topic becomes successful but as it stands I'm slightly incredulous about the whole thing.

Happy birthday to Rayman though, whenever his true birthday was! :partyhat:

I'm not going to be considering any scores that don't follow the rules. So, unless if you get those scores a second time but this time stop once you reach the object, those older scores won't be factored in.

Yes.

What?! The PS1 version is the original after all? Excellent!

My point about the creation of Rayman occurring several years before the release of the game still stands I think.

To that, I say MEH.

Also, I'm postponing the second wave of challenges until noon EST.

The Jag was definitely the original...
I think Rayman-Fanpage.de has the true dates.

So it turns out I was correct on both counts after all? Excellent! I can do no wrong.

No. Raymans anniversary was on September the 1st. (Not counting the unknown amount of time he had already been created for)

I can't join any challenges because ps2 and ps1 are discriminated from R2. And I don't own a R1 disc. I don't own rayman 3
Recording lags horribly if I use a screen recorder.
I own R2 for ipod, ps2, and ps1.
I can't record ipod because I don't have a tv cable. I can record my ps2/ps1 using my dazzle, but ps1 and ps2 aren't allowed.

Yeah, but i think that because there are not that much people here, you should've gave it more time.
As i think it still is a good idea.
