Oh man, I love Henchman 800's music too! :D Sometimes I want to play as him just because of it - and because it's really hilarious to watch him clamber up ledges and swing from lums with his hook... xD

I also love Teensies because of the very same reason(music and silly animations). <3 But for some reason they feel a bit more awkward to me; I can play as 'em pretty decently, sure, but I'm just more used to watching a single character play on-screen, and the change is a bit disorienting. =P

From a gameplay point of view, I think Razorbeard or Razorwife are the easiest to play with, but solely from personal preference I'd go with the Henchman 1000 or the Teensies.

If I remember correctly from when I had a different version, the PS2 version mistakenly(?) spelled it as Hunchman, but the other versions of the game call it Henchman. So I guess technically either would work. =P

Do the characters really play differently then? It always felt to me that the differences between them were purely cosmetic.

Well I think the size and structure of some of the characters can affect their performance, particularly in the race levels. The Henchmen just seem awkward and cumbersome when the helicopter is activated, and the Teensies are slightly slower to engage their special roll move, for example.

Now talking about it, it always gave me the feeling that Globox's optimization in races is faster than other characters...

My order of favorite characters yay. Razorbeard because he's just Razorbeard, his skins rock, he's funny, cool, BA, and a great theme music.
Dark Globox, well I've always wanted to play as him because he ain't on any other versions of M, only on Arena, so I was always excited how does he play and I played with him and I liked him. Funny theme song and a funny character overall and his spinning is great.
Teensies are just Teensies. Silly and funny skins, good theme music. Henchman 800 is a great character with awesome orsum autumn just COOL skins, especially his third one on Arena. The Cup 4 one, the gray/red one with holes and possibly no eyes. Theme song = pwnz.
Razorwife - don't kill me but her theme song is good but not the actual singing but when she pauses and there's a great rock solo, just listen to it and it's great. Also fun to play as, and as for skins - meh. The blue one and the white one are both cool. I don't like the red one, and the regular is just... regular.
Globox - theme song is weird, weird to play as also, just plain weird, but his skins rock and his animations are sloppy (?) but funny so yeah.
Rayman, oh Rayman, I'm the only person prob'ly not to be following the cliché of Rayman being the favorite character. Guh, I played enough of him in Rayman, Rayman 2 and Rayman 3, I don't want playing him in a game where you have a CHOICE. But he's still higher than he should be on my list because of his idle animation and great theme song. And pity - his only skin sucks. Henchman 1000 just plain sucks too. I mean - his theme sucks, his skins are... sucky, his looks are cool, his gameplay (yeah, you know) is just a clone of Henchman 800, but 1000 sucks. Did I mention he sucks?
And the sheep, Tily. I actually like her, I don't know why I placed her here. I think I made a mistake, uh-oh WOOPS NO FUNNY. I actually like her and all of her skins are great except ironically the last one with the stripes. It's... weird and... fattening? How do you put that? Nevertheless she's a great character but the theme song is just too... girly and OOOH SPARKLIES OOOH for me, sorry.

Ooh. I remember this topic (of differences in characters) being in the Rayman M/Arena thread too... haha. Guess I'll say what I've had to say here too!

I'm under the impression it's purely cosmetic, though some character animations might make a tiny difference - not enough for me to notice, but I guess other people have since they've told tales about it. Just for the sake of testing it out at one point, I did that bonus race stage 'Run, Run' (the one with the angry wall approaching that kills you dead if it catches up with you; hey, I was also doing it for practice and for fun) and completed it with every single character in a row without failing once.

Mostly I think it's just the "feel" of the animations for the most part that makes the difference, I don't think it often actually changes the gameplay... for me, I like playing as Rayman because his animations, the way his model his built, and the size and everything are just comfortable for me to play with; when I look at a character like the Teensies, they look different, they're skinny and tall as a whole, their animations are more exaggerated, and it kind of disorients me since I'm used to playing as a character that looks much different. Just like with Globox, it sometimes is annoying because he's a chubbier character and takes up more space on the screen; because of that, I feel like I can't see as much as I'd like to.

But I've successfully played with each character and despite minor disorientations like that, the performance was more or less the same. It's just the "feel" of the character to me; I'm used to playing as characters like Rayman(with the more 'standard' actions as far as dashing, jumping, hovering, etc. goes and isn't as strange) in platform or third-person games, so playing as a character like that is just more comfortable to me. I like playing as other characters sometimes because of the music(Globox and the Teensies, for example, or the Henchman 800), but as far as personal preference goes, a character like Rayman is the most comfortable to me.
