Re: Rayman 1.5: Revenge of the Dark
Oy oy oy! Here we go!
1. "The Ice Volcano: Enter the Opposite" - 0:00
2. "Fort Night: Village Hideout Passage" - 1:05
3. "Fort Night: They Speak of a Hero" - 4:00
4. "Mount Kollapso: Race of a Legendary Misconception" - 5:59
5. "Mount Kollapso: Ly the Fairy" - 8:57
The main thing i believe here is track 4. It came out perfectly.
Just a little background info:
- Fort Night is a triple pun in the name. It takes place at night a in a fort a fort night after you escape from Glassdrop Grove. After freeing Moskito and breaking out of the glass grasp of Glassdrop Grove's shores and flying across a currently unnamed ocean on Moskito's back, you start upon a beach at night. You can hear very dim sound in the background through the palm trees. You eventually find a dock that leads you into a secret hideout village. It's sort of a village-on-the-water kind of place. Channels of water flow between the huts instead of ground, and the whole village is surrounded by dense jungle trees. The people in it speak with pirate/Irish voices. You could best compare this level to the Pirates of the Caribbean boat ride in Disney Land.
Everyone had heard the legend of Ly the Fairy as a child, even Rayman himself. He was inspired by her constantly. She was the bravest warrior that ever lived.
- Mount Kollapso is a very strangely built mountain that could come crashing down with too much activity. Rayman travels through the chasms and pathways of the mountain until he expectantly runs into a group of travelers. A fat one, a small flying one, and a tall monumental one with long hair. Before Rayman makes them out, the tall one sees him, runs up and tries to strike him down. Then a battle starts. The fat one gasps and runs off to the side in fear, and the small flier taunts you, praising their fighter. As you fight the figure, it moves so fast it's only a silhouette. The fight causes so much noise that there's a large earthquake and mount Kollapso begins to do it's thing. You both look around and you make a break for it (all gameplay). The silhouette is fast on your tail, and you fight while you run. The flier picks up the fat one with much effort saying "she can make it herself, beLIEVE me!" <insert track 4> Eventually you reach a crevasse that you are able to jump and helicopter across, something the chaser can't do. As you land on the other side, you look back and finally see steadily who was chasing you. It was Ly the Fairy, the one from the legends. You stare back as things around you begin to collapse, and she's staring down at the gap beneath her, then looks back at you. You then have to jump to her and bring her across. Unfortunately the floor disappears beneath you and you begin to fall. As you look up you can see the flier carrying the fat one seeing you fall with her. Then you get covered up by debris. It fades to the next scene where you see a blue light shine up and a force field of energy blasts outward, throwing off the debris. <insert track 5> Ly looks at you and wonders why you saved her, when your figure was the most evil thing known at the moment. You explain that you're the original Rayman and Mister Dark created a clone of him who is now ruling everything. Then come in the flier and the fat one who introduce themselves as Globox and Murfy.

Re: Rayman 1.5: Revenge of the Dark
I loved tracks 4 and 5 best - I must say, you transcribed Ly's theme absolutely perfectly, my eyes were welling up with nostalgia. Track 2 also deserves mention, like a mix between French and Italian traditional music, though the random electronic noises were a bit of a surprise. I just wonder about the 'violin' voice you've got going particularly at the end of track 1 and in the middle of track 4; it's a bit harsh at times, if you know what I mean.

Wow, sweet arrangement of the Ly theme there.
Re: Rayman 1.5: Revenge of the Dark
Everything's great. Mount Kollapso 1 is beautiful and epic, full of emotions. Truly your masterpiece.
Fort Night 1 and 2 are quite funny ahah.

Whoa, that was amazing!
I especially like, like most others here I presume, the fourth track.
Good job!

If you don't mind my criticism, I don't like the way you attempt to conceal Ly during Mount Kallapso. It just seems far fetched to me.

This may seem like an odd thing to criticise but in my honest opinion the background looks too realistic. It almost looks like a photo with a cartoon character pasted into the middle. It looks great but Rayman just seems out of place.

Re: Rayman 1.5: Revenge of the Dark
Yeah I see what you mean.
When I get a dedicated 3D artist to help me with this, I'll have him/her model some more abstract foliage and natural objects. At the moment I'm mostly (like 2/3 - 3/4) using Crysis assets. Major objects like the windmills and all the Music Mountain objects and of course Rayman himself are custom.
Also on a sidenote about that picture/new worked on shading, one of the things I did to make it more colourful was make the dark/shadowed side of the shading have a slight purple tint in Windmill Hills. That in combination with the yellow road gives a very contrasted and colourful tone due to the fact that they're opposite colours. It's a new technique I thought of recently.

Re: Rayman 1.5: Revenge of the Dark
Yeah, the maps (except for Music Mountains) looks a little too realistic for Rayman, but still, they're pretty sweet
Also, I have a question. By now, is the game, well, a "game", with title screen, cutscenes and stuff, or is it only a bunch of maps?

Re: Rayman 1.5: Revenge of the Dark
I can't imagine at all how the fight against Ly is going to progress at all if she's moving too fast to even see, though I suppose that it may just be a Hopeless Boss Fight. When she's chasing you, I don't understand how she can stay a silhouette. Besides, if she's so fast, you wouldn't stand a chance running away from her. What if the player just stops and lets Ly catch up? There's no way she can still be a silhouette when she's so close.

I can picture the fight scene so at the moment, you'll only have to trust me.
@Hedgehog673:
I have a couple cutscenes finished and some basic not-ready-for-showcase AI and that gameplay mechanics I showed you on the page before.

Very nice music friend!
Just as I thought, it were the tools that you were using that held the quality of your music back. I'm glad that you gave music software a go, it really delivered amazing results!

Yep. Music software is a dream come true to me.
It may slow down my production a bit, but it's in a very good way.
