Hoodlums' Revenge can't be the answer, it came out after R3.

Could you try testing in 2D Madness some more to see if there's a secret passage somewhere in there? That would be awesome.
In the meantime I'll try to complete R3 GC myself in Dolphin to test with multiple GBAs (emulated of course).

Other games than R3 GBA don't work with the connection. It only works with R3 (same regional version) in the special connection world on the left of the world map. And if there's really no secret passage in 2D Madness, then the only logical possibilities I can think of are completing all minigames INCLUDING Mad Trax and Wheelis (thus completing the whole lap and saving a 'best time' on both of them), or less likely my previous point of connecting 2 R3 GBA game paks at once.

Oh, and for those who haven't experienced an unlocked 2D Madness on GameCube yet. You can unlock it at any time by connecting R3 GBA at the connectivity page of the menu (thus by entering the R3 GBA bonus levels). That's why I thought connecting 2 at once could be a possibility, since the popup message saying that you've unlocked 2D Madness popups right after you connect the system, so what if you connect 2?

Either way, everything else aside, go on and try one of these:

Official method, MOST LIKELY if not proven false:
1: Finish Rayman 3 on GameCube and unlock all minigames.
2: Finish Rayman 3 on GBA with all 1000 Lums.
3: Connect both Rayman 3 games, unlock 2D Madness and all 10 GBA bonus levels.
4: Finish all 10 GBA bonus levels.
5: Finish all GameCube minigames. INCLUDING 2D Madness, Mad Trax, and Wheelis.
6: If needed, connect both Rayman 3 games again. Unlock 2D Nightmare!

Or:

Less likely, strange, but plausible:
1: Connect two GBA's, both with Rayman 3, to one GameCube with Rayman 3.
2: Unlock 2D Madness and 2D Nightmare!

If none of these worked, try these:

Plausible, but nothing's sure:
1: Search 2D madness for any possible secret passage.
2: Try to hack the game files and look into the maps for clues/secrets.
3: Ask the Ubisoft developers what the **** is going on with this minigame. :P

Is that not too easy? And there is no secret passage.

I dont think so. That was... hm.. too easy? And still there is no secret passage.

1. That posible, but... WHERE?

3. Give me names, i could find them in 123people.

Most are easy, yes. Actually, I've done most of those myself. Except for finishing Mad Trax and Wheelis, because I don't have 2 GBA connection cables. Truth to be told however, this was the original method of unlocking GC/GBA goodies described by Ubisoft in 2003, and chances are high that 2D Nightmare is related to this same method as well (until proven otherwise!). And nobody has given proof of doing all of this yet. So if you want to discover 2D Nightmare, I would definitely start looking at the official method first!
da1 wrote:I dont think so. That was... hm.. too easy? And still there is no secret passage.
I don't think that method is right either, only plausible. But if it's too easy, go ahead and try it if you have 2 GBA's with 2 R3 GBA's (or on flash carts, of course). Try before deny! Either way, Drol may soon be able to try this, and perhaps some other methods, by using emulators. Problem is that I don't know how to dump savefiles from a GC memory card, he's playing the game in Dolphin..

Hey guys, I just now browsed the forum again. I kind of started the fire long ago bugging everyone about this minigame so I should probably go look here in a second, (I still have complete GBA and GC saves for Rayman 3 on my cartridges).

The story behind this is, on the old Raymanzone board before Rabbids or even Hoodlum's Revenge. I was asking if anyone knew how to unlock the final minigame. One (or possibly two) guys said they had unlocked it by doing everything (like Newray said) and that it was "2D Madness 2." One guy posted a screenshot of Rayman in Picture City instead of the normal forest setting. It was low resolution and hosted on imageshack. No I didn't save it and I came back and tried asking the guys for more help. They never responded.

The other reason I thought it was always called "2D Madness 2" is because there is an Amazon review floating around that says this:
Amazon review wrote:GameCube:
2 unlockable mini-games. 2D Madness, 2D Madness 2. How to get here? Load your game. Then highlight Bonus and press A. Go to minigames! 2 GBA/GC link games, Mad Trax and Wheelies, are only on GameCube.
Whether this is the same guy or not, I have no idea. Then the Raymanzone forums were nuked, all posts disappeared, I didn't save anything as I didn't count on official Ubisoft forums being deleted.

Later someone on a French cheat site was talking about a "2D Nitemare" but did not say much about how to get it. I assumed they were the same. Then everyone now has the text dump thanks to the awesome people here at RaymanPC where it explicitly says "2D Nightmare."

It appears someone here recovered the screenshot though. Who did that and how did they do it? I must have missed it. Was it you, Spiraldoor?
Drolpiraat wrote:We actually didn't manage to unlock 2D Madness yet (I even wonder how I unlocked Mad Trax on my old computer, I'm going to investigate that soon), since we need a full save file for both roms (GBA and GC) for that. On top of that, Haruka's GBA save file doesn't seem to work. Do you know of any way to get a good save file for the Gamecube version (maybe you know how to transfer yours to PC?) or for the GBA version?
I can answer this one. 2D Madness is only unlocked with the GBA hookup and Rayman 3 in the GBA, whereas Mad Trax is unlocked normally by getting a high enough score on the main game. I forgot exactly which score though, it's been so long.
PluMGMK wrote:Hoodlums' Revenge can't be the answer, it came out after R3.
I tried Hoodlum's Revenge, and Prince of Persia Sands of Time on GBA as well (it also had GC to GBA exclusive features like Rayman 3).

I did this, it doesn't do anything. You get red circles for completing all minigames except Mad Trax and Wheelis, for whatever reason, but even completing and getting a best time both Mad Trax and Wheelis, which I did, does not unlock anything or make anything appear, including the red circle.

It seems no one else here has been able to complete Mad Trax or Wheelis, as I've never been able to get anyone to confirm whether or not you could get a red circle on those games, but I've tried multiple times.

All has been done. Nothing unlocked.
Newray wrote:3: Ask the Ubisoft developers what the **** is going on with this minigame. :P
I must have bothered Ubisoft support tons of time. No help. The only developers who will know how to unlock this is Ubisoft Shanghai as they did all the extra Gamecube stuff. I don't know how to contact them.

The main thing about this is the manual says nothing about how to unlock anything on Gamecube besides, "figure it out" basically. The major information is from the press release Ubisoft gave:
http://www.gamezone.com/news/item/rayma ... e_and_gba/
R3GC press release wrote:3.Final Challenge: Download and tackle one final Game Boy Advance challenge after completing Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc on the Nintendo GameCube
" Requirements: Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc for the Nintendo GameCube and Rayman 3 for Game Boy Advance
I have never seen this "Final Challenge," nor does simply completing Rayman 3 on GC or GBA unlock it.

Britta found it in a fansite, but there isn't explained how it gets unlocked. :(

The image was recovered by a user named raymanxbritta, who is unusually good at finding rare images. I believe she found the screenshot on a random fansite. I thought at first that it was taken from the RaymanZone post you talked about, but someone else (Newray? not sure) said that it came from an official screenshots folder that was on RaymanZone about 2003.

That's correct, yes. I'm 100% sure that screenshot was placed in RZ's original screenshot gallery back in 2003. It remained there until the site was replaced with the Rabbids version. After clicking the thumbnail of the screenshot, you got to see the exact same image as posted in this topic, with a short description about minigames and such. Nothing that helps us further in the search on how to unlock this minigame.

I didn't manage to recover a cached version of that screenshot. Both the Wayback Machine and Google's cache didn't cooporate with the old RZ for me. If anyone could recover a cached page with that screenshot, please do so. However, as I said earlier, it doesn't contain anything helpfull about how to unlock it.

UPDATE!!!

No need to cache, I found out the old screenshot gallery is still at RZ, on Ubisoft's servers. By looking at the filename structure, I counted up and voila! A bunch of these R3 screenshots can still be publicly seen using the gallery over at http://raymanzone.uk.ubi.com/screenshots.php but you originally needed a high ranked account to view most of them. But luckely none of the screenshots are protected and can be seen by finding out their link.

So here it is, proof that the screenshot is original and still on Ubisoft's site: storage/9471/ced70847b9f7eb5881221c90354bef7c.

Ah, what you guys are saying would make sense. Then the person telling me about "2D Madness 2" (not sure why they didn't say "Nightmare") was just reposting that screenshot. I was under the impression he/she had taken the screenshot of their game to show me. If that's so, it makes me wonder if it exists. I'm very happy no one can say I'm crazy any more. I swear I didn't dream up that screenshot, and here it is.

But either way, there's still a mini-game that says "not available" in my list and a lot of unanswered questions.

I tried running around 2D Madness for way too long, trying to get some kind of secret or passage way, no luck here. Then I started messing with a bunch of other crap. Restarting Wheelis and Mad Trax, double checking everything. Still nothing.

I'm wondering about this text file, though. Where did this come from? Did this come from the PC version? Why would the PC version have stuff about Gamecube exclusives? I mean, it's not impossible Gamecube and I'm curious.

Is it possible someone can list the contents of the text file for me? Is this all the text in the whole game or is there just a separate text file ONLY for 2D Madness?

The reason I want to know is, assuming it is possible to find a secret passage that unlocks a minigame and this is the way to do it, it might not be in 2D Madness. Prince of Persia Sands of Time for Gamecube had a similar set up where certain levels are unlocked by finding switches in the Gamecube game (I haven't played this yet though, so I don't know exactly how it works). It's possible you would have to find something in the GBA or GC version that triggers or unlocks something. Maybe it's somwhere in the 10 extra levels on GBA? It's possible but most of those levels were straightforward. I don't have time to replay all of those right now, maybe someone else can try?

What is frustrating about all of this is how little information was given out and the one big press release Ubisoft flooded at every game website in 2003 (linked above), is somewhat inaccurate. It mentions two multiplayer modes "Great Escape" and "Treasure Hunt" which seem pretty obvious that they are not in the game. It mentions a "final challenge" that is not unlocked the way they said it was, which was just simply beating Rayman 3 on Gamecube. They also list 11 bonus levels for GBA. It's possible the GBA bonus 11 level that is no where to be found is the "final challenge," but I haven't a god damn clue.

One last major thing to note is that in the manual for the Gamecube game, it specifically says there are 11 bonus levels to download on the GBA version. I don't know how, as I said, the page ends with it telling you to find out.

It came from the PC version. CheatCat posted about it here, but didn’t say much apart from telling us that he saw the name. My guess is that they ran out of time while adding minigames to Rayman 3, so several minigames which were once planned to appear in every version of the game (the Xowar minigame, the chess minigame and the 2D Nightmare minigame) ended up getting removed. The GameCube team added Mad Trax and Wheelis, and while they were at it I guess they had enough time to get 2D Nightmare into a playable state too. CheatCat said that he read about these minigames in the ‘fix.lvl’ file, which is in the ‘Gamedatabin’ folder, which is in the ‘Rayman3’ directory.

You’d have to ask CheatCat about that, but unfortunately he left in protest when Matyuv was made a moderator over a year ago and still hasn’t returned. Some other members who have the PC version might be able to check out the files on the disc he mentioned and see if they can find anything new.

I have to admit, as frustrating as it is, I have a certain appreciation for the mythic status this minigame has achieved here. It’s like a quest...

Hehe, what a coincidence. I just talked about him in the IRC. Anyways, he actually visited Betilla's Gardens just today, so he's still observing the activity.

I’m not sure what OS you’re using (I’m using Vista and I can’t remember all the details of how XP works), but try putting the Rayman 3 disc in the drive, opening ‘Computer’ or ‘My Computer’, right-clicking on the drive with the disc in it, clicking ‘Explore’, then opening the ‘Rayman3’ folder, then opening the ‘Gamedatabin’ folder. There should be a file in there called ‘fix.lvl’; open it with Notepad or something like that, then post the text inside it here. You may also want to check the other files in the ‘Gamedatabin’ folder to see if they’ve got anything interesting in them.

That’s strange... there’s no mention of 2D Nightmare, so CheatCat must have been referring to another file when he said that, probably one in the same folder. Could someone ask him about it on Betilla’s Gardens? One thing that I notice about the text posted by Haruka is that the phrase ‘You discovered a secret passage!’ is directly after the description for 2D Madness – perhaps this means that the secret passage to 2D Nightmare is indeed located somewhere in 2D Madness, or perhaps it means that the description displayed when you enter 2D Nightmare is ‘You discovered a secret passage!’. Or perhaps both explanations are true.
