I became a rayman fan when me and my dad got our ps2 the christmas that followed launch day of the ps2. Since we never owned a ps1, my dad bought me some ps1 games like crash and spyro which were cheap. We would play SSX for the ps2 together also. He started getting me ps2 games a year later because soon I was able to prove that I could take care of my games, and he got me rayman arena as a suprise. I had never played a rayman game before, so I tried it and ended up loving it (which was funny because I remember throwing a hissy fit because I wanted crash 4 for the ps2 and I was 6). I apologised to him later because it was actually fun. then I went over to my cousins house for his birthday party (he was only 2 months older than me), and we got him rayman 2 because he loves platformers. We played it for a long time that day. He would also come over to my house to play rayman arena. Then I sold my rayman arena copy to gamestop when I was 10 (which I regret now). When I was 13, they came out with rayman 2 on the ps store, and I bought it because I remembered playing it with my cousin at his house, then I bought rayman 1 to see where it began. Then I got a gamestop gift card for christmas and I decided to buy some games. I looked through the used rack and I saw rayman arena for 5$. Insta-buy, went home and played it for 12 hrs straight to unlock everything, except the ending because I can't beat speed stress :(
Then I still had 45$ on my card, so I went gamestop hunting for rayman revolution because I had the crappy ps1 version of rayman 2. Searched online and found a store that had it over in burlington, MA, which was only 30mins away and 30mins away from my dad's office. So I went with him when he goes to his office on the weekend to pick up his check, and we went over to the burlington mall on the way back home, stopping to eat at chili's, and then going into gamestop. I saw the huge rack of used ps2 games, thinking it would take a while, but they were organized alphabetically and I went to "R" and there it was. I also looked around the shelf and found sonic mega collection +, sega classics collection (the one with the 3d ages remakes of outrun alien syndrome monaco gp and the virtua racing arcade port!!! :D), crazy taxi, and psyconauts.
You can probably tell I'm a big sega fan.
For some reason I still haven't bought R3, which is still on my list of games to-buy.

EDIT:
:O 100'th reply to the OP.

I became a Rayman fan through Rayman Raving Rabbids of all things. Christmas 2008 to be exact, and my parents had got me the game. Played it, got hooked, looked it up, found out there were rabbid-less games, and...yeah~

It happened on summer of year 2000.

I was in the house of a ex-neighbour which had a "lite" Playstation 1 with a couple of games. When I went to the living room, I saw him playing a game with a very cartoony, colourful, happy and animated jungle landscape ( :P Pink Plant Woods/The Primordial Forest). I was marveled to the ammount of detail of everything in the screen. When I look to the left I see a character with a unique atribute, something that I've never seen before: no arms, no legs and no neck. I asked if I could play, and he let me (even with a moody face). I found quite fun his attack (telescopic fist) and how the enemies died. I managed to beat Bzzit and to reach Bongo Hills. I was hooked to the game because I was in there for more than hour and I was already further than the ex-neighbour. In the same day I tried Rayman 2: The Great Escape's DEMO in a Playstation Magazine disk. From that day on I got a Rayman fan :D .

I never imagined that 8 years later I would frequent the biggest Rayman community of the internet.

Rayman 3 was one of my first games for PS2. I've been a huge fan ever since.

My reason was simple - I'm a huge fan of Sesame Street and the Muppets in general (as you probably know), and finding a Wiki article about a large, blue Cookie Monster lookalike (Globox) in March 2010 was a true discovery. So, I decided to play R3, because he has a bigger role in it and is almost inseparable with Rayman.
And later I started liking Razoff and the teensies as well.

Man, did I have a deprived childhood. I discovered Rayman on December 15, 2010. I was cruising around youtube searching for the very first youtube poop, and I came across this...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04gm_Dvt ... re=related

My first thoughts were, "Sweet! Another random children's game!" So I hopped around online looking for all the information I could find about Rayman, and soon discovered its awesomeness.

Better be thankful that I didn't drown the entire portal in Razoffs (which will happen anyway though, since I'm already here...) . :mryellow: I've got a comp only in 2006, so there.

Was long ago when I was..probably 4-5 years old. Went to my local WHSmith store and found 'Rayman Gold' sitting on what I think was the bottom shelf of the Games section. To what my mother told me, it was extremely cheap so we bought the game. Turns out when we (yes, I played the game with the help of mummykins...The Robo-Pirates scared me. :P) played the game, we were oblivious to the fact that there was a different disk in the box: Rayman 2. Regardless, from then on, I grew up with Rayman and his games to this day.

That makes sense !

I played Rayman 1 when I was... 8, or something like that, it was one of my first games. I've never played R2 but I bought R3 when it was released and joined RZ soon after that.

I should start posting here..
Well, it was year 2002, if I remember right. I was still a little kid and I didnt have alot of games. I got my first PC and soon after that, me and my mom were visiting at her friend and I was totally bored there so I started to look and touch things (without asking permission). I found a pile of cds and noticed a Rayman 2 demo for PC in it. I asked what it was and if I could test it on their PC. My moms friends husband had somehow gotten it (from a magazine I guess). He helped me start the game and BOOM, I was in love with the game. I borrowed it, played it all day long and showed it to all of my friends.
I looked for the full version everywhere and it took a long time to get it.
Later I got M and 3 and started to like Rayman even more. Rayman was the only subject I talked about with my friends and it was even the only subject of my school projects. Soon people started calling ME Rayman (also because my real name starts with R[no, its not ripa..]) And even tough I tell my friends, that I dont play Rayman anymore (well of course I do, but at our school its kind of a disgrace to play such "childish" games), they still call me Rayman...

I've known about the series for quite some time, but it wasn't until recently when I became a fan. I can remember seeing the cover for Rayman 3 in video game stores back in 2003, and of course I remember the huge rash of RRR ads back in the mid aughts (Yes, that's what I call them :P), but then, in 2009 I got Rabbids Go Home, played it, loved it, and remembered the original Rayman games, without the rabbids, I did some research about the Rayman games and shortly became hooked on the series. You could say the first "real" Rayman game I bought was Rayman 1 on DSiWare.
