I like it. The European box art is boring and generic. Not only did they design new art for this cover, but it has a new logo and they even redesigned the exploding ship. Really, it could be pure crap and I'd like it, as long as it's not the same promo pic from ten years ago. It's not like this is the next major installment, so the cover art isn't really that important.

Although I appreciate the 'effort' gone into the cover, it's a pile of shit. He looks like the evil hybrid-child of Rayman 1 and Rayman 2. Seriously, why is that kid on the cover and not in therapy for acts of arson? It's a careless move, Ubisoft. :mefiant: I just want to punch that young pretender in the face.

So why bother to re-design Rayman? Why not use old material if the game isn't that important? I'm all for effort, but this ends up looking even lazier than using a nice, old-fashioned promo pic. That said, if young Damien wasn't grimacing at me from the cover, I'd be all for it.

Hm, I don't like the Rayman model. His mouth looks deformed here.

They’ve given Rayman a hideous, twisted sneer. They’ve redrawn the ship and walkway in the background in an attempt to make them look more realistic, but the result is quite dull and is completely at odds with the game’s aesthetic. The new font, logo and title are a disastrous step down from those of the original release.

So you’re saying that crappy new artwork is preferable to good old artwork? Cool...

It isn't determinant to make a game being good or not, so it is undifferent for me.

I must agree here, he does looks wierder than in the original cover.

It reminds me the first 3D Rayman 2 model done, he had a face like that. I'm glad it got changed in the final version.

It kind of looks like he's using the force with his right hand to blow up the ship.

That cover would actually be awesome if Rayman 3D was about Rayman blowing stuff up and causing destruction, which it sadly isn`t.

Yes, it's really misrepresentative of the content. The sea and sky are nice but everything else just looks like the work of some obscure art team that have no understanding of the game. That ship doesn't even seem to feature the iconic pirate flag!

Right, I loved the Robo-Pirate flag from the original drawing.

The feeling this gives now to me is the artist who made this cover hadn't a clue of the content and spirit of the game.

His left hand is huge and the shading on it doesn't look natural. He's growing a horn on the side of his face too.

I don't like it. That Rayman model/render looks wierd and I really hate box art of cutesy characters frowning in a failed attempt to get the game to appeal to a different audience or something . That frown looks wierd. I much prefer the original exploding ship art.

Anyway, I was dissapointed to find 'Rayman 3D' was just a port of Rayman 2 yet again because:

A. I'm not a fan of Rayman 2
B. It's Rayman 2 AGAIN. We have so many ports of that one game already, even one for the DS! Even Rayman 3 would have made a little more sense, and I like that game even less!

However, I was pleased to hear that this was a port of the Dreamcast version because, not only is the Dreamcast version probably the best version of the original game but I also like the way that the 3DS's capabilities are actually being utilised, something that I often see ignored on many past handheld consoles :)

I was just highly dissapointed by it when I was little because it doesn't capture the spirit and feel of the original Rayman game and was too un-Rayman related. They even randomly replaced all the cast for subsitutes (Ly = Betilla, Teensies = Electoons ETC.) I also thought it was too dark and epic, but there you go. Rayman 3 annoyed me further because they made Rayman look really stupid and gave him a hoodie. The only Rayman games I actually like are Rayman 1 and it's spinoffs but I don't whine all the time about the newer games because that's dumb and pointless and I see far too many video game fans do it all the time...

I do however like the TV series and am a little interested in Rayman Origins (despite my video), that is if the gameplay and music are good.

I found the sequel even better than the first game. What do you mean by "un-Rayman related"? Which version you played by the way?

I find the Yellow Lums the substitutes of the Electoons, not the Teensies.

But also remember that initially the game's sequel was to be still in 2D, with the return of Betilla.

I think that the R1 characters and the environment modeled into 3D wouldn't work quite well. I see them better in 2D.
I also thought it was too dark and epic, but there you go.
Could you be more specific?
Rayman 3 annoyed me further because they made Rayman look really stupid and gave him a hoodie.
That was my first negative impression about Rayman 3 when I started to see for the first time the pre-release screenshots, I found the visual change desnecessary. I can now live with it but still I prefer the Rayman 2 design.

I also like Rayman 1 but "the newer games dumb and pointless"? I don't agree, but Rayman 3 went down on my expectations the first time I've played it. It presented a lot of failures compared with Rayman 2.

Rayman 1 isn't a lot played for the main reason of the great majority of the players finding the game very difficult, there are still today players that never completed the game. The game was hard before for me, but now it isn't. Other possible reason is the game being relatively really old.
I do however like the TV series and am a little interested in Rayman Origins (despite my video), that is if the gameplay and music are good.
The TV Series had potential, I found really bad have been discontinued.

And I'm also looking forward for Rayman Origins. Since Ancel is working on it with a small team, I'm sure this game will be very promissing.

I understand where Electoon is coming from, it didn't seem bright enough. It seemed to dull, dark, and serious. I agree a little bit, which is why I liked Rayman one the most. I still loved Rayman 2, but the first one just fit my style of environment better. I think a cross between the three games would give the best result, which is what I'm trying to do with Rayman 1.5. The perfect Rayman game should have a deep contrast between light and dark themes, be epic, have a heavy sense of "magic" (as in fairies, fireflies, saturation, critters, etc), and have a defined story for a sense of adventure.

Did I ever say that it looked good? Also the logo, however bland, isn't that terrible.

Yes. Like I said, the cover art isn't important with ports, and it's new. There's no harm in that. The old artwork is still out there.

Wow, so the extent of your Rayman game fandom is Rayman 1, Forever, Gold, Amazing Learning Games, Activity Center, and Rayman for Gameboy color? That's pretty wild as there hasn't been a ton of original or good stuff spawned from Rayman 1.
Haruka wrote:I found the sequel even better than the first game. What do you mean by "un-Rayman related"? Which version you played by the way?
I'm with you. While I had played and finished the first Rayman fully before Rayman 2 ever came out, I wasn't convinced I was that into the game as the tone and art was a little strange and conflicting to me (still is). I felt like the first Rayman couldn't figure out if it wanted to be a cutesy game for kids because of the first few levels and music while the game tended to be way too hard for any younger kid to ever finish. All of the enemy designs outside of the bosses also weren't very inspired.

It was Rayman 2 that solidified a unifying tone and atmosphere to me, with consistent and catchy music as well as great art direction that was both original and meshed together well. The game was incredibly well designed to boot, especially compared to all the bad 3D platforms that weren't Nintendo games in 1998 and before.

I basically meant exactly what Rayfan says in a below post. The first Rayman game was light hearted and had bizzare colourful worlds, but the second one was dull, dark and took itself seriously.

Oh and I first saw the Playstation 1 game when I was little, which in retrospect is probably the worst port. I've more recently seen the N64 version and think it's much better.
I also like Rayman 1 but "the newer games dumb and pointless"? I don't agree
Maybe I should have phrased what I meant here a little better. Sorry, I didn't mean the newer Rayman games were dumb and pointless, I meant that many video game fans that don't like the newer games in their favourite series spend their time whining and moaning, which is dumb and pointless.
