Rayman 1 (Atari Jaguar) Emulator + 100% Complete Savegame

Post by upaluppa »

I just completed the Atari Jaguar version of Rayman 1 on virtualjaguar, the only emulator which emulates Rayman properly with sound!

I finished all levels except Candy Chateau (so you can still play it), broke all the cages in every level and did not use any continues!
Interestingly "Mr Darks Chateau" already opened up after finishing "Mr Skops Stalactites" even tough I was still missing two cages in "Eat At Joes".
Perhaps finding all cages is not necessary in order to access Candy Chateau on the Jaguar...

Anyways, I thought I'd share the emulator, game and my 100% complete save file with you all!

The emulator is already configured and I have also included the prototype and beta versions of Rayman 1 as a little bonus!
Playing with a gamepad is advised, it really makes the game more enjoyable and comfortable to play!
It also wouldn't hurt to use a really powerful PC to use this emulator with sound, otherwise you'll get slowdowns and broken sound fx...
(I have tried emulating this thing on a netbook and failed miserably, just to let you know) :|

So here's the download:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CUYVI1QJ

I hope I managed to cheer you guys and girls up a little with this post!
Bye for now!

Thanks for this. I was never able to finish the Jaguar version due to the glitch that crashes the game if you press too many buttons in a short space of time.

Hmm, I don't know which emulator you used but with the emulator I have included in the download I never experienced any crashes and I have played the game for hours without a single restart of the emulator. I finished the entire game with this emulator and the only problem I experienced were somewhat "scratchy" sound effects.

Perhaps it was because I was using a gamepad instead of the keyboard, I honestly have no clue...

Anyways, just give it a try and let me know if it works better this time!

upaluppa, I don't know how I can thank you in the name of the entire community. We have been waiting for a fully working emulator of Atari Jaguar since a very long time! :D Really, thank you very much!

I must start a walkthrough of this soon.

Haha, I think you are thanking me more than I deserve! :)
This emulator is not really new, it was released about three years ago.

Perhaps it's just that nobody has really tried playing Rayman on it yet...
I found it to be better than project tempest (which most people seem to use for Rayman) because this one has working sound!

Anyways, a full walkthrough of all the levels on youtube would be totally awesome!
I really love to watch your walkthroughs!

But keep in mind that the sound is still not perfect with this emulator...
The best thing you could do is try the emulator on your computer and decide for yourself if it runs good enough to record a full walkthrough of the game!

The creator of this emulator announced that a new version would be released in the future (but he didn't say how long this is going to take), perhaps you should wait until the new version is released? Here's the author's website: http://icculus.org/virtualjaguar/

We already knew the emulator, but we couldn't play it properly since it had glitches.

Now this one doesn't show up big problems as far as I've tested already. :D

The Atari Jaguar version of Rayman 1 was one of the playlists I wished most to create. :)

Why not?
You mean the 100% complete file simply won't show up in the file select menu of Rayman?

Oh, now I know what your problem is!
I was confused by this as well at first...

After you select Rayman (Final) and click on load you have to go on "Jaguar" and then click on "Reset" once!
After doing that the game will start!

You only have to do that for the normal Rayman game, the beta and the prototype work without resetting although the prototype might crash sometimes for some reason. (I think it happens when you die or fall into the water, I am not sure...)

I hope I could help you!

But why the prototype and beta stop works when 4 or 5 minutes happened?

The same thing happened with the final version?

Don't worry, the beta and the final version work without crashing, only the prototype version is crashing sometimes, probably because it is such an early version.
I wouldn't have managed to complete the game 100% if it had crashed ever 4 or 5 minutes!

Thanks a lot upaluppa! That looks awesome, and maybe I could use this to record music for RayTunes as well...
spiraldoor wrote:the glitch that crashes the game if you press too many buttons in a short space of time
Wasn't that only in the beta demo?

Yes, I think I might be mixing them up.

A huge thank you upaluppa, this works perfectly! :D As concerns the glitch Spiral mentioned, I know for a fact that pressing left and right at the same time in Project Tempest freezes the game, and I'm talking final version.

@Drolpiraat:
I always wanted to be able to listen to the Atari Jaguar Rayman Soundtrack at any time!
It would be more than awesome if you could record the music tracks and add them to the raytunes music collection!

As long as you stand still in a level, so that no sound effects get in the way you should be able to record the music just fine!
It definitely would be worth it!

The different instrumentation makes the music tracks sound very different from those of the CD quality versions, some tracks were almost unrecognizable to me while I played through this version of the game! A few tracks seem to be entirely different, they do not appear in the CD music versions as all!

@Hunchman801:
I just made a weird discovery!
Have you tried pressing to opposing directional keys in the final Rayman on this emulator?
It does not crash at all, even better, it makes Rayman do a strange animation which I have never seen before:
Image
I really wonder why this happens and whether this can be done on a real Jaguar...

@L.M. Murphy:
I had this same problem too...
It only did this if I set the emulator to PAL mode in the settings tough...

Just try restarting the emulator to see if it keeps happening.
In most cases this will get rid of the problem! (Unless you set the emu to PAL mode which is not necessary or useful anyways)
