Re: Rayman Origins

I think Rayman's new design has won me over. Yes, I really wanted the 'original' 2D Rayman design, but we can't have everything.

However, I'm really not digging the sound effects. They sound like the sound effects used in Sonic. Again, this is a minor complaint, in the grand scheme of things.

Wonder if we'll get an explanation as to why there's suddenly no tings or what indeed they were supposed to be in the first place? Were they a type of lum, were they merely a source of health? Who knows.

A new 2D Rayman and then a new/revamped Oddworld game in 2.5D at some point, this is just heaven.

Replying to a previous post, I don't see that as a Fist Throw. It's more like Rayman is charging up an attack, and then punches. No real throwing, I think?
Also Globox didn't shoot fists, those were power-ups.

I actually posted it two days ago along with the other artworks from the official E3 pack.

As concerns Rayman's telescopic fist, the least we can say is that it hasn't been emphasised by the trailers and gameplay videos we've seen so far. But as long as it's here, I'm fine with it. Something I'm wondering by the way is whether we'll learn why Rayman doesn't have any powers at the beginning of the original game.

You know, I'm pretty sure that the woman talking in the first trailer is that Gabrielle in the interview with Ancel. The one who writes the story.
btw, someone should update the RO page in the wiki, add a cage picture in the cage page, and add a helicopter picture in the helicopter page (all those from RO of course). I can't do those things.
About the fist, I checked the alleged charging and shooting of the fist by Rayman in the first trailer, and there's no such thing there. Also Globox doesn't shoot (and if he did, it would be projectiles like in R2).

Well, his attack has a much longer range than usual, so I'd say it counts.

Well, now that you said it, I guess we could classify this as a throw.
But @Matyuv, the second one is a powerup, as I've said a few posts ago.

I hope no-one minds me chipping in for a second here, but I just thought I'd comment on the amount of goodwill towards Origins in the gaming media during e3. The two gaming sites I read the most are Joystiq and Destructoid, both of which have been saying lovely things.

Jordan Devore of Destructoid said:
My biggest surprise of E3 was, without hesitation, Rayman Origins.

The decision to shift from being a digital title into a full retail release makes perfect sense, now that we have the game's E3 showing behind us. If you saw the on-stage demonstration of Rayman Origins, you know what I'm talking about. Holy f*ck, if you don't mind my saying.

This trailer above captures much of the magic. Such a great return to form.

Chad Concelmo, also of Destructoid was similarly psyched:
Okay, I have my game of the show so far.

Granted, it's only Monday, and Nintendo still has the chance to announce Pikmin 3 and change my life, but, so far, Rayman Origins is the game that I want more than any other.

During Ubisoft's press conference, Rayman mastermind (and one of my favorite game designers) Michel Ancel came on stage to present the game. It goes without saying that Rayman Origins looks gorgeous. Stunning 2D side-scrolling levels. Fluid animation. Creative level design (um, did you see that Tetris-inspired level?!). Tons of variety. CO-OP! I am salivating over everything about this game right now.

I can't wait to play more of Rayman Origins on the show floor. What do you think? SO RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING, RIGHT?!

Finally, Richard Mitchell of Joystiq said:
The sheer amount of delight generated by the latest Rayman Origins media may be unquantifiable. Seriously, Ubisoft, it's not fair. Try and save some delight for everyone else. View the screens below and watch the trailer after the break, and try not to smile. We submit that it cannot be done.

Lovely to read. I feel sure that even if Origins isn't a great commercial success, it'll certainly be a critical darling.

The fact that he's charging the fist doesn't prove it is a telescopic fist. Also, I managed to capture it just at the right moment to see Rayman with his hand far from his body (I'm not sure how to upload images, so just try it yourself), but since the hand is very very big, since this is the only place it is seen like this, and since it could easily be because of the artistic style (see the images from the first trailer), I think we'll just have to wait for the game to come out to know, or to wait for more footage showing him throwing his fist.
Matyuv wrote:And Globox shooting here after 5:26
As Henchman said, this a power up, not a fist. But, it could be a very very common power up which will replace the fist (as in Rayman 2).

Who complained about Origins only coming out for consoles? It's also coming out for the Wii.

Excelent. The people connected to gaming industries seem to be also thrilled about RO. :D

The game was nominated for prizes of best of E3 2011 and Best Platformer. I hope it wins this prize.

I wonder if my eyes will stand the sight of the insultingly low resolution of the Wee version.

Loving all the praise it gets. Also, did anyone notice the surprisingly realistic looking fire near the end of the trailer?

The Rayman Origins graphics beat every graphics of 2D games I've ever seen. :D

You may be right, they are pretty far away from the chest. Rayman also charges.

Giving that the wii is nearly 5 years old now for Origins to be put out for that would be just like when they put Rayman 2 out for PS1 in 2000.
