I don't know, but it is indeed said that Rayman was created out of lums; the nymphs who created him didn't have enough lums to create arms or legs or a neck.

I agree with you that the world and the atmosphere are of a Rayman game, but without the fist, it would be incomplete.
I love these games and I don’t give a damn about the fist – what does that tell you? Not every game in the series needs to feature the exact same gameplay mechanics; there is absolutely nothing wrong with changing the combat style from one game to another. Slapping enemies with your hands at close range is much more similar to the telescopic fist than the magic fist is, yet Rayman 2 was all the better for its unique gameplay. How does the telescopic fist make the ‘world and the atmosphere’ complete? The beat-‘em-up approach in Rayman Origins looks way more fun than stopping to wind your fist up every time you encounter an enemy. We have been doing that for some seventeen years now. It was cool the way we could hit stuff from behind with it but it’s not the sacred key ingredient of the series that you’re making it out to be.
I get that you don't care about it, I was talking about other members. I disagree with you, I think that the telescopic fist (+magic fist) is Rayman's trademark attack.

Isn't there anyone here who cares about this?! Am I actually the only one?!

My opinion is that it would be nice to see the telescopic fist return because it has been one of the key combat mechanisms in the previous games, but given the style and gameplay of Rayman Origins it would be inappropriate.

All we know is that Lums were somehow involved in his creation and that the nymphs did not have enough. We do not know what variety of Lums were involved, but the Knowledge of the World makes me suspect they were blue. The Lums themselves definitely did not create Rayman. No Lums were seen in the trailer which showed Rayman’s creation, but this does not mean that moonbeams are Lums.

I think that the telescopic fist (+magic fist[+slapping fist{+whatever else the developers come up with in the future}]) is Rayman’s trademark attack.

Wait, are you calling us hypocrites ? Then if you think only those who think like you are worthy of being called Rayman fans, I'm not sure I want to discuss with you anymore.

Do you imply that Rayman fans who do not consider the absence of the telescopic fist a heresy are being hypocritical? Not only would that be a last resort argument, I simply fail to apprehend its pertinence.
Edit: Dedess beat me to it... again.

I may have been a little harsh, but yes, someone who calls himself a Rayman fan and truly, absolutely doesn't care about the fist's absence in the game is a hypocrite. I think that the telescopic/magic fist is a main feature in the Rayman franchise and shouldn't be replaced. It's what made Rayman a unique platformer. Now they're implementing combat mechanics from other games, especially Mario, which turn it into just another platformer. Again, it's not in a bad way, I'm sure it'll be an awesome game with lots of elements from other Rayman games, but it will never be perfect without the fist.

There seem to be invisible checkpoints aswell, for example in the bat cave you beat up the spikey thing and them you got a checkpoint somehow.

Yeah, they're like Gendoors how they work. Also when you enter a room and die in it, you'll revive at the entrance.

Aww, don't give me that comic, Hunchman. Look, I know that you, DesLife, and everyone in this forum are huge Rayman fans, I just think it's a bit of a self contradiction. Anyway, I don't really mind if you guys think otherwise, so let's just forget about it and get back to the topic.

I don’t think so. Am I? Could you be a bit more specific?

The telescopic fist is completely different from the magic fist. As I have already said, the slap-centric combat is much more similar to the telescopic fist than it is to the magic fist; do you reject Rayman 2 as well? How on earth is Rayman slapping enemies and turning them into balloons similar to Mario? Rayman has always been ‘just another platformer’ in terms of the series’s gameplay mechanics; it is the world and the atmosphere that makes these games great. No Rayman game has ever been perfect; neither has any other game. There is no such thing as perfection, telescopic fist or not.

Being a huge Rayman fan ≠ selecting gameplay mechanics which appear in some Rayman games and proclaiming that these are the key to the series’s greatness while condemning everyone who thinks a gameplay change might be a good thing as hypocrites.

It is clearly a long range attack, as his fist is actually sent flying and actually does damage to characters further away from him. The goofy art style has nothing to do with this. You got your fucking telescopic fist, but for some reason you insist on denying it just so you can complain about it.

Well, you said you don't think the telescopic fist is Rayman's trademark ability, but just a feature in the games that can be removed, and then you said that it is his trademark ability.

I disagree with you on the telescopic/magic fist thing. I think they are generally the same, since they're both projectiles. No, I do not reject R2, in fact, it's my favourite game in the franchise. When I said they turned it into a little bit like Mario, I meant the ground pound and spin attacks, but I don't think they're bad, I just don't like them replacing the telescopic fist.

Because I don't think it is the telescopic fist. Is it so hard to accept that I have a different opinion than you? Do you think swearing will make your argument better? I wouldn't have denied it if there was some evidence it was there. I think I've proven my point and I'm tired of arguing about it. I'm being realistic, you're just being stupid.

I did not say that the telescopic fist was Rayman’s trademark ability. I said that the telescopic fist/magic fist/slapping fist/whatever the developers come up with in the future was his trademark ability, in response to your self-contradictory reference to the importance of the ‘telescopic fist (+magic fist)’.

So you’re retracting your claim that the telescopic fist is an absolute necessity for every Rayman game and are now saying that any sort of ‘projectile’ will do the trick? The telescopic fist was hardly a ‘projectile’; it went out a few feet from Rayman and then came back. The slapping attacks in Origins are similarly close-range. The ground pound and spin attacks obviously aren’t replacing the telescopic fist; the slapping is. Since when has Mario been a beat-‘em-up?

You accuse him of refusing to accept the validity of your perspective while you simultaneously condemn everyone who does not share your fanatical belief in the telescopic fist as hypocrites who are not true fans? Also, we see Globox shoot three big blue telescopic fists in the on-stage gameplay demonstration with Ancel and the programmer, so stop complaining about it.

Wait.
I may be wrong, but I saw it rather as instant non-returning projectile.
And yes, there was something looking really like telescopic fist, so stop complaining about lack of it.

But it is a long range attack with Rayman's fist, what does that have to do with opinions? And if you don't like my swearing, then I suggest you behave yourself. My initial argument was friendly and not offensive in any way, but for some reason you decide to be unnecessarily rude, which makes it pretty difficult for me to keep being friendly all the way. If you're tired of arguing, feel free to stop.

Anyway, new interview:
