Then I guess you must really hate The Lord of the Rings.

The only way to avoid them is to use gongs, although in R3 they attract the Knaaren, while in RO they repel the bats/locusts/insects.
My point was that the level in Rayman Origins is a desert from start to finish, while the level in Rayman 3 has only a few minutes of desert and is a dark cave for the remainder of its duration. The Knaaren which stalk the hallways of the tunnels are radically different to the thousands of bats which swarm around the characters in Origins. The return of the gongs is interesting, but they look very different and have a very different use to the ones in the Desert of the Knaaren. The deserts themselves also look very different; one has scorched red sand and giant bones, the other has white sand and strange buildings.
iambored2006 wrote:btw, someone probably already posted this, but I think the platforms seen in the jungle level (and their equivalents in the desert level) are taken ultimately from the platforms in the dream forest in R1.

If they wanted to make this level look like the Desert of the Knaaren, the background desert would not be visible for the majority of the level, and there would be Knaaren instead of bats, and there wouldn’t be any spiky balls from Rayman 1. The Desert of the Knaaren’s cave drawings are Knaaren drawings while the ones here are Globox drawings.

The Desert of the Knaaren will not appear in Origins. Any inspiration drawn from that level was minimal. This is good, because it’s one of R3’s dullest locations.

Okay, I don't want to talk about shops. Still, nobody knows anything about controls and such. Time for some crazy speculation! We may assume jump has a button, slap has a button (maybe fused with charged attack) and making a platform doesn't have a button (up on main control). But what do you think about helicopter? You may use it on ground, so should it have a combination (down+jump, up+jump)? Well, it would surely reduce any aiming with land helicopter. So maybe separate button? But do you need that separate button for helicopter in air?
Discuss.
Maybe Helicopter is a button, to glide, press jump+heli. As for the ground helicopter, hold down the helicopter button, and use the main control to change the direction Rayman blows.

No one can visit the USA shop of Ubisoft right? I'm always redirected to the UK one.

And I'm redirected to the Polish version of the shop...
And it doesn't have anything regarding pre-orders of Rayman Origins...
The only thing Rayman related there is the possibility to download "Rayman: Raving Rabbids". And it's labeled under the 'Rabbids' section... Yay.

Stangely the North American residents can already pre-order the game. Why us not? Will the game be only for Xmas in Europe or what?

Sounds a bit complicated. I'd have the helicopter work like in previous games, and activate the blowing helicopter by pressing down + jump. The direction would depend on which way Rayman is facing.

I didn't say this would be the Desert of the Knaaren in RO, I said it inspired it. These two games are the only ones in the series with a desert level, and the devs do use R3 as a source for inspiration. I don't think the similarities mean that the creatures are baby Knaaren or something, and I don't think that, plotwise, these deserts connect. And the desert level in RO isn't a desert from beginning to end. As you can see in the videos, it has a very small open desert segment in the beginning and the end, and a bit in the middle, but all the action is in the caves, just like with the Knaaren caves. The lack of bones and the addition of buildings is meaningless if these are to be different places.

In the post you quoted I was responding to someone who suggested that the desert in Origins was the Desert of the Knaaren. I doubt that the new desert is directly inspired by or based on it. There are no discernible similarities between the two deserts; if the new one really was inspired by the Desert of the Knaaren, how come none of its distinctive characteristics are preserved? There are no caves at all in the Origins desert; what you call ‘caves’ are clearly artificial constructs with perfectly flat walls covered in hieroglyphs. In the new desert, the player frequently comes out into the open, and even when they’re inside, huge gaping holes in the walls allow us to see straight out into the white desert; this is completely unlike the Desert of the Knaaren, which is dark and gloomy. The lack of bones and addition of buildings are not ‘meaningless’; they further suggest that this desert is a completely new invention which does not draw on the Desert of the Knaaren. Just because they’re both deserts doesn’t mean that one was inspired by the other; deserts, forests, caves, mountains, etc are stock platforming environments that are found in nearly every example of the genre. They included a world of music, and we all came to the immediate conclusion that it was inspired by Band Land, but the same logic does not work for such generic locations as ‘desert’ unless there are some substantial parallels (such as the Livingstones and nenuphars in Origins’s jungle, which strongly imply that it is the Dream Forest.) The only parallel of note between the two deserts is the gongs, and they differ quite a bit between the two games.

Is it even confirmed that band land will be in this game ?
i sure hope though !

it's going to be very hard to match the magic and mystery of rayman 1
so far they already did IMO with the dream forest, i hope the music is as good as rayman 1

As far as I know, the presence of Band Land in Origins was hinted at by artworks on the walls of the development studio in Montpellier and confirmed by an article from Jeux Vidéo Magazine, which mentioned the existence of a “world of music”. If it is to make it to the final game, which I really hope, I am extremely pleased by the fact that they haven't revealed any gameplay or screenshots of it yet, and even hope this will be the case until the game is released.
