Idea: New feature for RayWiki

Hi! I really love this forum and I think RayWiki is very useful sometimes
But sometimes I don't know how to call a place in english because my game is in Spanish.I have thought that in the little square with some information for example the Lums and Cages for the Rayman 2 Levels,I had the idea of adding the name in other language.For example:

Cave of Bad Dreams = Cueva de las Pesadillas
Menhir Hills = Colina de los Menhires
Fairy Glade = Claro del Hada
Uglette = Ugleta

And too maybe a way that you could search for an article typing in the name in your native language...

What do you think?

I think a good solution to your problem would be to use redirects. This would take the reader to the correct English page when they search for the Spanish name.

For example, we could create a Cueva de las Pesadillas page containing the following text:

Code: Select all

#REDIRECT [[The Cave of Bad Dreams]]

This would mean that anyone who searches for ‘Cueva de las Pesadillas’ would automatically be redirected to ‘The Cave of Bad Dreams’. I think it would be a good idea to create similar redirects for all foreign-language names – feel free to get started on it yourself if it interests you.

We shouldn’t list foreign names within the articles themselves unless it’s actually important (such as ‘the Primordial Forest’ for Pink Plant Woods, which is actually a Rayman 1/Rayman Origins tie-in). Most of these names are invented by the localisation teams, or are simply direct translations. They’re not relevant or important for most English-language readers, but they will be used if we ever expand into other languages (we have a Hungarian wiki which uses the names from the Hungarian version, for example).

Good point.Well,if someone is interested I could translate little by little the wiki to spanish so we can choose Spanish as well as French and German because I think Spanish would be a great language to translate the wiki because many users speak spanish...

Regarding putting foreign names in an English article, for me this is only appropriate if there are several foreign names rather than just one and that's best presented in a table.

If you'd really like a Spanish version of the wiki to be made, it's best to ask Hunchman and should he give you the green light he'll tell you what to do. I know quite a number of fans that speak it so it'd probably be a good choice for the next language to be installed.

While we're on the subject of languages maybe we should like, apply the English front page stuff (layout) to the French and German ones, as well as fix up the Hungarian one?

When TeensieKing has started the redirects I suggested him to talk with Danone to see if he could team up for a Spanish Wiki. It is the best solution in my opinion.

It doesn't matter, there are hundreds of articles to write on the original game. That is, if they're not that lazy of course.

Ask him which articles he's writing and start working on other subjects, this way you'll have to required number of articles sooner.
