Re: Rayman Origins
Hmmm, yeah, you're right, but that makes the game to require more strategy in multiplayer, so you have to pay attention to what your partners are doing without losing the control of yourself. If gendoors in this game where like rayman 1, then this game would be IMPOSSIBLE.

Re: Rayman Origins
Still laser-then-trap is not comparable to gendoors in any way. You absolutely know what the laser is doing, no surprises or anything.

Then the players would have to learn to be more careful of simply Ancel should put more fair gendoors.sergiomonty wrote:Hmmm, yeah, you're right, but that makes the game to require more strategy in multiplayer, so you have to pay attention to what your partners are doing without losing the control of yourself. And that was the best of the game, you never know where the gendoor is and you could get some cages, and Ps with gendoors.
I hope the good gendoors are invisible...

that isn't worse, actually it's kinda handyTeensieKing wrote:even worse! that's the only thing of Ro I think it's a shit!iambored2006 wrote:Actually, they don't come from a random place. OK, seems like some of you may be interested in this.
ADVANCED GENDOORS FOR MULTIPLAYER
by stan423321, 2011
This wall of text will not discuss Killdoors, as usually they are not unfair for multiplayer. It also will not discuss Super Gendoors or Super Killdoors, as most of stuff is applicable anyway.
So, it has been said traditional gendoors MAY be unfair for multiplayer. My thesis is they may be designed so they will be fair, by utilising more complex conditions.
Problem 1
Traditional Gendoor unleashes enemy into player 2.
Solution
Check area around enemy's spawn point and do not launch Gendoor if someone is there.
Problem 2
Traditional Gendoor unleashes spiky ball separating player 2 from player 1 and not allowing him to continue the level.
Solution
If this behaviour was not intentional (so players follow different paths), check if all players are in spawning area and refuse to launch Gendoor otherwise.
Problem 3
Behaiour from P2 was intended, but 2 players followed each other very closely and spiky ball would spawn into player 2.
Solution
Spawn a shockwave/explosion/something preventing player 2 from following player 1. Temporary invisibility bonus may be useful.
More problems?

Re: Rayman Origins
Oh, come one, this is just absurd. Gendoors can't and won't be in RO. R1 was built for that kind of gameplay mechanic (and I wonder: is this the only game with this mechanic...?), RO was not. It can't have traditional Gendoors even in single player mode.
I found some funny videos on youtube (not related to RO):

Re: Rayman Origins
I tried looking up Gendoors and yeah seems to be a Rayman 1 only thing.
I've only still got my copy for collector's sake, while my boyfriend never traded in a game as quickly as he did with that.Stacey is a witness.
Re: Rayman Origins
Uh, gendoors are in lots of games. They're only called "gendoors" in Rayman 1 though. They're also in Rayman Origins. Think of the part in the trailer where they were swimming and suddenly the boss appeared behind them. That's a gendoor right there: by swimming to a certain location, they activated the boss chase event. I don't see what the problem is, really.
Also, you can't judge the whole game by looking at the gameplay we've seen so far. There's more in there than you think. Maybe even the "sudden surprise" gendoors. I doubt that they won't be in there.

Re: Rayman Origins
Jesus. I just said gendoors would work in multiplayer if done right, so multiplayer on its own is a very weak reasoning for lack of them in RO. You interpret that as bitching about lack of gendoors in RO. Oh well. Shall I include every little aspect of my thought in my posts? Maybe I should hire spiral for rewriting them? Or since UbiSoft has recognised RPC, anything similar for criticizing is forbidden? Or TF2 players hate any criticizing? Or indeed any post of Stan is not subject to any serious reading?
Any 'why so zerious' reactions will be ignored.

Re: Rayman Origins
I know what you're talking about, and it's called hot-spots. R1 uses them to much greater extent, and that's what makes it so unique. RO won't have that kind of gendoors. It can't. Again, not because of multiplayer. Because it's not built the same way as R1. If you want an example: it's quicker. In R1 you approach everything cautiously, you explore. In RO, you'll explore. Yes, sir. But you'll do it differently.Drolpiraat wrote:Uh, gendoors are in lots of games. They're only called "gendoors" in Rayman 1 though. They're also in Rayman Origins. Re: Rayman Origins
It's true that the R1-style gendoors won't be in the game, but that doesn't mean the surprise factor is totally gone. In fact I think there can still be just as much surprises in this as in R1, if not more. The gendoors aren't possible because of both multiplayer and the speed of the game. The platforming in this is much more fast-paced than in any other Rayman game, which is why any surprise like in R1 would be a shock here. However, that means gendoors might not be necessary anymore - exactly because it's so fast-paced, they can just rely on the surprise factor that comes with the speed of the game. If you're too quick, you might not see a trap until you walk right into it...iambored2006 wrote:I know what you're talking about, and it's called hot-spots. Stan, if it was me you were replying to, I was replying to the ones who were really bitching about the lack of gendoors in RO. Your ideas for multiplayer gendoors are nice, but they wouldn't work well with Rayman Origins' fast-paced platforming style.
Re: Rayman Origins
The game itself already looks fantastic only by watching the gameplay videos.

Re: Rayman Origins
The pace of gameplay is interesting thingy because of, guess what, mobile RRR, that Sonic-like... thingamajig. Rayman moves fast but in instant way, no momentum building here. I seriously hope there will not be sections requiring pushing a. stick softly to move slowly, I just can't do that.
edit: 'Zerious' stuff was aimed at bored people. Also, gendoor like stuff is present in a lot of games, but it is rarely as 'technically literal' as in R1. I can explain if you wish.

Oh yes, it will be quite exciting. I can't wait to find every cage alone.

Hey guys, anything special happened? Kinda inactive because I had to go to school... you guys are all so lucky.
Re: Rayman Origins
This is quite suspicious: http://www.amazon.fr/UBI-Soft-Rayman-or ... 677&sr=8-5
I've read two French previews about Rayman Origins and they mention a release of a PC version for November. Is this an error or is Ubisoft preparing a last-hour surprise?

That's actually quite interesting. If there'll be sections like this, then it would explain why there is no PC version.stan423321 wrote:I seriously hope there will not be sections requiring pushing a stick softly to move slowly, I just can't do that.
I remember trying to get the red fairy creature in R3 by pressing softly on the forward key
Is that a hint...?edit: 'Zerious' stuff was aimed at bored people.
