So, any fun facts on R2? Perhaps someone could tell me how to fire a cannon in Revolution?
1. that was me
2. when you get the yellow shot from the Canopy, go back to the Sanctuary of Water and Ice and fire at the cannon.

I need to butt in too I'm afraid.

Okay, I worked out what my problem with the caterpillars is: I have massive scoleciphobia. Which is a fancy term for fear of worms, caterpillars, things like that. Now I haven't got past the Cave Of Bad Dreams yet (I'm going to get my brother to do it when he comes back from the cinema) but I looked the caterpillars up on RayWiki and apparently they also appear in The Sanctuary Of Rock And Lava. Now I have some questions about this:
  1. Do they regenerate? Or do they actually die when you hit them? If they don't regenerate then I'm fine with them, it's the regening ones I have a problem with.
  2. What's all this about disembodied flying heads? RayWiki says that there are little caterpillars which are like the flying heads of the bigger ones, but it also says they're the first ones you encounter and I've never seen them before.
  3. Do either types appear in ANY other levels? Regening or not regening?
Please, I need to know. If the regenerating ones keep appearing then I'm going to have REAL problems playing this. :tssk:

1. The ones in the SoRaL regenerate only once each, then they're dealt with.
2. Ah, yes, those are the tiny balls of fluff with evil eyes that the Wiki calls baby Chenilles. They make a mosquito-like buzzing noise and will try to ram themselves into you. They regenerate only when you have not passed their nest. For example, they're in the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire, where there's a nest on the wall (indicated by a beehive-like structure). If you pass this nest, they will stop coming out of it - however, there's a nest further up ahead and then the baby Chenilles will start coming out of that one. They aren't at all like Chenilles, or worms for that matter. They're just spiky fluffballs that are extremely annoying.
3. Let me think... there's more baby Chenilles in a secret part of the Echoing Caves, which I am not going to tell you more about because it would be a spoiler. There's a Chenille in the Fairy Glade, but obviously you've already passed it. I can't think of any more places where there are normal or baby Chenilles at all - so I would think you're safe for the rest of the game.

A bit of warning though: a big Chenille is the holographic image of the SoRaL, so when you get to that point, just close your eyes and press the jump button to go into the level.

I hope I remember well... do you play PC version?
  1. If by "regenerate" you mean "respawn after killing" - yes (but sometimes they don't). Altough they jump in circle, and don't charge when player is in their line sight... and just one hit kills them. It's possible to just pass them by.
  2. Oh my, you got me here. As far as I remember they appear in that beloved lava level (Sanctuary of Rock and Lava, Beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava, Sanctuary of Stone and Fire... crap, don't remember), and maybe one more... they respawn, are pretty weak, and charge into player (those little bastards are annoying, especially when you play with turned sound off, or you know there is one, but you don't see any :T pretty dumb advice - when you hear one, start shooting in sides - you will hit it).
  3. Uuhh... one of first levels, I think at the end of Fairy Glade, Cave of Bad Dreams, Sanctuary of Rock and Lava, Beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava... I think that's all.
They're insects? I was pretty sure there were sort of... pompon critters.

Near the beginning of the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava, after jumping out of the window near the rolling barrels, I saw a giant fish/monster of sort at the edge of the branch/wood watchamacallit. Does it actually do anything? I jumped into it and a blue trail appeared which seemed to keep me floating for a second, but I then fell in the bog. I'm confused.
Hmm... did it suddenly jump out of the water?
Was it this?
That is Eig and it doesn't really do anything - it just watches you in some marshland levels.
Bingo. :) That's the one. Thank you for your help!

You've been gone for a while. You missed the whole SOTM! I could have used another vote for my sig. :P Though, if meme's are chosen for the next theme, my Harkinian rank will totally own the contest. xD

Dunno if it interests anyone, but my Clark glitch is gone. Overall, I'm kinda liking Revolution, though it's surprising when the game forces you to go another direction when you're so used to going one way. XD

The scenery, well, it's pretty, but in my opinion, just a tad superfluous.

Revolution also features a big red Boss Chenille caterpillar that rapidly spawns normal caterpillars every time you hit it.

This is true, though fortunately, for MLII, she doesn't play the PS2 version of the game, so no big wormy things to worry about there. :mryellow:

By the way, everyone, here's some new info from old websites. I don't think it's been posted before.
I've seen some of the info before but it was never officially confirmed. That means it's great for RayWiki. :D

http://web.archive.org/web/199909031310 ... /en/story/
Take a look at this. It's the official 1999 Rayman 2 website. Most of it doesn't work anymore, but there's some interesting info in the "story_txt" pages there.
They made it look like it's made by a robo-pirate. Nice.
  • Razorbeard was called Razor Face
  • Globox had 35 sons back then, one of them is called Globs.
  • Zombie chickens still have feathers. I had no idea.
  • Globox's rain dance power is called "The Gift". It was posted on an old Rayman 2 fansite but this is a confirmation ;)
  • Ly dresses as one of the Phrys and shares their secrets.
Here's the story quoted.
After Clark and Rayman rescued Globs, one of Globox's 35 sons, our friends fell prey to a gang of zombie chickens! But our heroes were ready for them and the chickens got plucked! (...and the zombies lost a few feathers along the way, too.)
Like certain other members of his strange race, Globox possesses The Gift, a magical power that he can't always control. Globox has discovered a new power: when he does his fire dance, it rains!
Ly and Rayman have managed to repel the Robot pirates' first raid. It was a memorable battle, finally ended when the pirates abandoned ship in an emergency capsule. Ly is a wild and independent fairy. She dresses like the People of Prhys, shares their secrets, and, like Rayman, protects them from harm.
Before they to set out to pulverize their favorite targets, Razor Face and his cronies brush up on their marksmanship by shooting cannonballs at statues of Rayman. The first time they met, Razor Face wasn't crazy about the welcome he got from Rayman and his friends. So this time, he's back with his entire crew.
Despite my eagle-eyed surveillance, two entities infiltrated Detention Quarters PAF-4. A Fat Yellow Thing moved the stockpile of explosives, clearing the way for a group of prisoners, while a potato-headed eggplant smashed the lock open with his fist.
At 0805 hours, as I was lubricating my soldering visor, I was decked by a UIP. This set off the first fire at the Rapid Oil Change Station.

Note: I am waiting for a new flaming Oil Change system.

End of Report

*UIP = Unidentified Projectile
There's also a new picture in http://web.archive.org/web/200004110811 ... _txt4.html

I have a theory about "The Gift": Globox does his fire dance to make it rain. What they told us about Rayman Origins could explain this. The normal, red Globoxes have the power to make a fire, the fire dance. But Globox ate a poison berry and became blue. It also changes his power: he can make it rain like this.
The part with "despite my eagle-eyed surveillance" also sounds a lot like the ending of the Canopy. :D

I'm still trying to find more new info and bring back more old sites (and flash games, I already have all of the flash games working on my computer except Globber which is Java) I started digging all this old stuff up to add the music from the Globox2001 flash game to RayTunes, and I have it now, but I guess I'm doing a little more than that now. :P
If I find more, I'll post it. ;)

EDIT -> More stuff from http://web.archive.org/web/199909031036 ... om/en/bad/
Rayman's back... but not for long! A diabolical pirate tyrant and his slaves are after him, and that's just for starters! The Mysterious Guild has deployed us on "Operation Kidnap", a mission to fill an intergalactic circus with rare species.

Rayman's first mission is to free Ly the fairy, an intriguing feline creature who informs him of the only way to chase away the pirates: wake up Polochus the Magician, the world's creator and conscience.
The Mysterious Guild? Operation Kidnap? And the intergalactic circus story is true after all! "Polochus" the "magician"? Really?

MOAR EDIT -> More stuff from http://web.archive.org/web/199909031112 ... m/en/good/
We're glad that you have decided to become one of Rayman's friends.
A gang of unscrupulous pirates land in Rayman's world. Their mission is to capture and take over the population in order to sell them to a galactic circus. Rayman's first mission is to free Ly the fairy (an intriguing feline creature) who informs our hero of the only way to chase away the pirates: wake up Polochus the Magician, the world's creator and conscience.
Ly - a feline creature. Nice.

EDIT 3 -> Yeah yeah. I know I edit my posts way too much, but here's some more stuff I found.
There's a lot of good resolution artwork of Rayman 2 and Revolution if you look on page 8 of this: http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://www.rayman2.com*
Some of this may be useful for RayWiki too.
And try this! http://web.archive.org/web/200107052038 ... 8_1024.zip
It's a Windows theme, but it contains 2 very small parts of music that are slightly different from the final versions and an alternate voice for the Teensies.

So everything that was said about Ly being from Phrys, being originally fully feline, Razorbeard originally being called Razorface...was all true then. It's a big shame I missed out on this since I didn't have proper internet until 2001, but at least Archive's finally got it! Great find!
