Ah, sorry, my bad, have you tried the PS1 version? Whilst the differences aren't as major as the DSi, there are different cage placements, better sound effects and a different first level for Band Land.

Apologies on that point, perhaps it would have been better if I had just directed him to the BBcode topic, I have created quite the mess by quoting indeed, nevermind, mistakes are lessons to be learned from, and I have learnt my lesson from quoting large posts.

Haruka, I watched the one about the Last Cages in the Dream Forest... it's really funny how you should walk up to the Antitoons and go "screw you - and screw you... oh and screw you too".

I just find a pity how (nearly) impossible is to survive to the Mosquito-Mamas without a scratch. :confus:

I did manage it once, but with one hit point and Mokito-Sax bearing down upon me, that achievement was hollow.

I always found it a pity how you can lose 17 lives trying to make one jump but hitting the jump key at just the wrong time. Or how you can get stuck in a row of spikes and slowly see your health deplete until it reaches 0.

Yup, Rayman 1 is not only hellish in it's difficulty, it likes to make you watch as it makes Rayman suffer.

Hey guys,
I'm working on a first impression video for Rayman 1. I just wanted to ask what you guys think of the beginning intro? Did you find it corny, whimsical, ect.

Not corny in the slightest. Old-fashioned and awesome and whimsical and toony and everything Rayman should be. Especially the announcement of Rayman was terrific. The hero of the day: some guy in a hammock.

Note that there are two different "dubs" of this intro, the English American and the English European, I've always preferred the European, everytime I see the American version, the voice just sounds out-of-place.
All in all, it's a great way to set the scene, and the way it ends is epic in a cartoony way.

Which intro? the one with moving screens and voice actors, or the one with images and subtitles?

The one with moving screens and voice actors

Are you sure this is not UK vs US difference? I have no idea to be honest, I never could set my old PC up to play sound with R1.

That is the EU and US voice difference I noted earlier, I have that PC opening on my PSX version.

Oh I never saw one with voice actors, but I can't possibly believe it would be that bad - would it? WOULD IT?

I find the voices more than sufficient, whoever did the voice acting did it quite well, my personal preference is toward the EU English version.

Very good then! It's a big letdown if something really good is spoilt because the casting wasn't done correctly.

On another note, I've started playing my Rayman GBC version, as I stated somewhere around here - I believe the R2 thread - and my first new impressions of it: awesome. Simply amazing. The graphics are stunning, considering they could only use limited colours and sizes for textures etc.. They still really portray the feel of the Rayman world, while the level buildup itself is really good too. They thought of all kinds of sidepaths that need to be walked before something is unlocked or changed in the path ahead or backwards, there's like three ways to get anywhere in a level and I generally like overlapping things from Rayman 1, such as the second stage of Allegro Presto and the first(?) stage of Airy Tunes. What I find a big improvement considering Rayman 1 is the fairness. It's a lot less cruel, though sometimes you do have to watch out to not jump through a platform instead of grabbing onto it. There's a lot less precise skill required, though still the same amount of skill is required to actually beat the levels. What I love most is the music, which is basicly an 8-bit version of the Rayman 2 music, though sometimes it's actually improved! There's more variation sometimes, themes go on for longer, etc..
Overall, I already love the whole game. With memories leaking back in about future levels, I can't wait to have played it through fully and form my final opinion. It's a really nice experience to play it all over again after so many years of abandoning it.

I've not played the GBC version, but seeing screenshots it is impressive how Ubi got so much colour out of the machine, I think the diffculty would have naturally been lower since some elements can't be as complex as the original version of the game, however, it ends with Mr. Darks demise as opposed to him merely escaping, thus, the game does not feature in my personal canon.
