Re: Pirate Bash Brothers: Raybrawl
Looks amazing!
I want to try putting high resolution textures into objects I will be making. I loved that refined detailed look in Tornado Outbreak, so I want to try and copycat it. Just hoping it won't take too much size this way. (yeahipromisediwouldnttalkaboutitanymoresarrreee)

Re: Pirate Bash Brothers: Raybrawl
With textures the thing to worry about most would be VRAM. There's a pretty standard limit, as there isn't much variety with graphics cards in regards to VRAM. All it really is though is the resolution of your textures. 512x512 is pretty standard for newer games, and for high-end games like Crysis you usually find 1024x1024.
Re: Pirate Bash Brothers: Raybrawl
512 it is, then.

Re: Pirate Bash Brothers: Raybrawl
Yep, they are good ideas indeed. Maybe this helicopter ability could also indirectly be a harmful weapon?spiraldoor wrote:The helicopter is one of the key aspects of the series. It’s extended to all the other characters in Rayman M and Rayman Origins. I think we should control it the way we do in every other game in the series – hit the ‘jump’ button while you’re in the air to helicopter or glide in a manner specific to your character. Razorbeard helicopters by spinning his arms, Globox by inflating like a balloon, Henchman 800 by activating his jetpack, and so on.
It's good to see the technical sides of this project coming up. And very nice to see people are still investing a lot of time in it!
Also, RayFan, if it becomes any part of any other game, it will be MY GAME! >:|
Nah, just kidding, but I think this will be too large of a stand-alone to incorporate in any other games, to be serious. And I'm being serious to avoid misinterpretation.
Alright, a question for you guys:
Do you think we should create a Henchman 800 model much alike the R2 version, or one that is less cartoonily proportioned and more realisticly proportioned, such as in my other fangame and in my drawing contest entry? In other words, could we use the Henchman model from my game for this, or should we recreate one? The one from my game would have many the same animations that will be needed in this game, since the fighting will have expanded a lot in my personal project. The Henchman would already have melee attacks, jet pack, humorous animations and some ways of firing. All a lot of talk of boasting about nothing for now though, as said model consists of zero polygons for now.
PS
When I refer to my own fangame as 'my' game, and to this one as 'the or this game', it is because I don't feel this is my game - it feels like it's our game, and in all honesty, it is!
Re: Pirate Bash Brothers: Raybrawl
I always imagined that if Rayman made it into SSBB that he could use his helicopter to create a strong air current in order to blow somebody else away. It's probably not very likely he could make it this powerful but maybe if he grabbed some power-up he could.
Have a good month, Shroob. I'll miss you!

Howdy! I drew some concept art of Razor's attacks, inspired by mine and other's ideas! ^^ I'll scan it in the evening!

Here it is! Sorry if that looks quite crappy compared to what I can usually do, but I did this just before getting sick. xx' So...That must be why.

Re: Pirate Bash Brothers: Raybrawl
Oh, wow, Clara; that's amazing! I'll try to start adapting my style of concept to that - it's clear, depicting and looks quite well taken care of indeed. I see you're using classic controller notation for the commands of attacking. This is good as it is universal, so maybe we should start making appointments about which buttons do what for the characters, so that in any case that is clear?

Looks like I'm gonna have fun animating this.
The modelers would probably be Spanex, that3Dguy, and I (for certain things).

Re: Pirate Bash Brothers: Raybrawl
I will also try to help out in the artwork, though it will not be modelling, since I do not think I have sufficient experience just yet. I could make the 'blueprints' for the models though - a side, front and top view, and perhaps also draw out several stages of the animation of some (or all) of the models so you'll have a grasping point to base it all on. If you'd like to know if my animating skills are 'worthy enough', you could check out my Flipnotes - some of them in there I'm quite proud of because of the animation, others, well, I'm still fond of them because I liked making them.
Now we're on that subject, I'd like to suggest a few for you to watch, since I really don't have quite the amount of opinions on most of my work as I would like - it's a shame to see that if you make an effort, almost no-one notices; well, except for my friends on there, and their opinions are more than enough for me really... though in times I do feel a bit empty after receiving no appreciation for a hard week/month/year's work... and now I'm rambling. Suggestion time!
Monster - a Flipnote Music Video of Monster by The Automatic. I quite like how I did some of the animation in this, although the rest of it is rather static.
Shrooblord Shows Off - a reference Flip made for a friend of mine so he could draw my Shrooblord character. I like especially the ending, when Shrooblord swivels around in circles as if going to throw a hammer.
SMF:LD's USUD (Shrooblord Music Flip: Lemon Demon's Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny) - the most recent addition to my collection. I quite like it myself, though it is static indeed. Not everything needs to be high-paced and action-packed though. Plus, there's Rayman in there!
Seriously, press the 'decrease video size' icon in the top right-hand corner of the white pane the video is also in. It looks a lot better in the original resoltion than the blown-up one. Too bad the JPEG graphics the site uses to represent the video cause great quality loss. Oh well.
Hmm... I noticed I haven't actually posted most Flips I have on my DSi that could really show off body stances and such. Oh well you'll just have to take my word for it then!
Oh... it's nice to be able to show something off once in a while.
PS
Also, for you Scooby-Doo lovers out there, here's Shroobie-Doo.

Shroob, did you make all those yourself? They're brilliant!
Re: Pirate Bash Brothers: Raybrawl
I rather keep the character modeling aside for now. Instead I'll focus on environment.

I have however been working on my Rayman model again and if it's a success I hope we can use it. Unless everybody else prefers the Rayman 2 style, of course.

Re: Pirate Bash Brothers: Raybrawl
I think that for the purpose of what we're doing we should create it in the Rayman Origins style. It would feel the most fresh if anything in my mind.
And great work on the model! It's coming along very nicely.
