Re: Off Topic
You may not like it, but you remind me of myself a few years ago. When I was in elementary school, I had this obsession with symmetry and I had to make everything symmetric. For example, if I accidentally tapped one foot on the floor, I'd have to tap the other and go into a series of taps in strange patterns to make sure the taps are at least virtually symmetric between my feet. This even goes back to kindergarten and I still do it sometimes today.

I do that...RayFan9876 wrote: - When on a sidewalk I must only put one foot down per square which causes my strides to be the same length no matter how fast I'm moving. On Hastings Street where I take my music lessons all the cement tiles are only half as long, causing my strides to be half as long. If I screw up and slightly step on a crack, I need to get to my destination as fast as possible and I feel as if a knife-wielding murderer were chasing me at top speed. Once I arrive I "scrape off the crack I stepped on" from my shoe.

Am I the only one obsessed with climbing two stairs degrees each time?

I dunno.
I have a friend who is quite organised, he'll re-sort a pile of papers if one sheet was a mere degree off.

I have that, but I don't call it an obsession. I mean, my legs are huge, there's absolutely no reason to climb one step at a time.Haruka wrote:Am I the only one obsessed with climbing two stairs degrees each time?

Yeah, even I find myself doing similar stuff sometimes. Not that I feel in danger if I don't though.DesLife wrote:I still have that obsession, and I do the same thing while walking ahah.

I think I'm relatively small but still, I just unconsciously climb two stairs degrees each time.

I find it irritating to climb regular steps one at a time. When I climb two at a time, I bend my legs 90 degrees. When I climb one at a time, it's barely 40.Haruka wrote:I think I'm relatively small but still, I just unconsciously climb two stairs degrees each time.

Re: Off Topic
Not only do I have to tap things symmetrically, but the order in which I tap them has to be symmetrical. So if I tap something with my left hand, tapping it again with my right hand doesn’t solve it, because the left hand tapped first, which creates an imbalance. The only way to counter-act this is to tap it with my right hand for a second time, then tap it with my left hand again. This creates a sort of right-pointing arrow which overrides the initial bias to the left:iambored2006 wrote:You may not like it, but you remind me of myself a few years ago. But of course, this is also unbalanced, so I have to repeat the whole thing twice in the opposite direction, then once in the same direction again in order to create an ‘arrow’ which counteracts the new one. Each of the four arrows is composed of four smaller ones and forms one quarter of a large one.

But of course this is also unbalanced, so the entire process has to be repeated another three times: twice in the opposite direction and once again in the same direction. This goes on forever, or until i get bored and decide to stop. The whole thing is pretty stupid, so I only do it occasionally. I used to keep all my stuff tidy in a very specific way, but again, it got silly, so I just stopped – apart from a few particular things, like the way my mug, chair and laptop are arranged before I go to bed. It’s not that I feel like I’m in danger if I disobey these things – it’s just that they can stay at the back of my mind for a while if I don’t.

I'm the opposite, I unless the stairs are really small I always have to climb stairs one at a time. I've fallen down and up the stairs way too many times.Haruka wrote:I think I'm relatively small but still, I just unconsciously climb two stairs degrees each time.

@spiraldoor
Just my thoughts when I was in kindergarten! Since then, it got so stuck in my mind that I don't have to give it a single thought. Also, it's interesting to note that no matter how much you tap, you won't be able to make it really symmetric, because one hand has to tap first. That's why I said it's virtually symmetric.
The only time someone referenced my obsessive tapping was when I was in a field trip from school and the teacher noticed I jumped from one leg to the other, so she asked me if I need to go behind the bushes or something
. Also, I organise only what's really important to me, E.G. my library. I used to waste a few hours a week organising it, and every time I got a new book, I wasted hours in a single day to get it in. I have this obsession with my books that every shelf has to be full but not loaded too much that it's hard to get a book in. It's my most treasured possession.

About that, I have another thing where when I'm walking, every so often I need to stop, take a step or two backwards without turning around and then continue forward.
Unfortunately my dad's-side grandparents think OCD/OOCD means you're possessed by the Devil, like they think with everything.

This is one of the "laws" of OCD I think, no matter how aggressive your obsession is.iambored2006 wrote:Just my thlso, it's interesting to note that no matter how much you tap, you won't be able to make it really symmetric

What, that no matter how much you try, you can't perfect the object of your obsession? Seems logical.RayFan9876 wrote:This is one of the "laws" of OCD I think, no matter how aggressive your obsession is.iambored2006 wrote:Just my thlso, it's interesting to note that no matter how much you tap, you won't be able to make it really symmetric
spiral, I find it amazing that we invented the same patterns exactly! It's absolutely mind blowing!

Re: Off Topic
It might be more common than you think – it’s just that it’s not the sort of thing people talk about very often. Or maybe it only affects Rayman fans. I also feel that I owe a certain degree of respect to some inanimate objects, usually ones that represent living creatures or have sentimental value. But I’ve never felt an obligation to honour the ‘inhabitants’ of my food... I just eat it.

Lol. xD Maybe the Magician's opening speech sends out secret backmasked messages that implant OCD habits in your braaaaiiiiinnnnn~

I never thought that "obsession" for symmetry made me special. I've never talked with others about that but I've always felt that was probably quite common.spiraldoor wrote:It might be more common than you think – it’s just that it’s not the sort of thing people talk about very often.

Re: Off Topic
I have no doubt that obsessions are fairly common, however I feel that OCD is more circulated around the desire to fulfill those obsessions or the consequences that arise if you don't, not so much about having the obsessions themselves.spiraldoor wrote:It might be more common than you think – it’s just that it’s not the sort of thing people talk about very often. Ferr ezzample, the longer I wait to fulfill an obsession the more I start to panic, heart beats faster, I become short on breath, etc.
