But I'm a spoilerholic. :(

Gametrailers gave the game an 8.5? I mean, that's still a good score, but it's still below the high scores it's been getting.

[So... now that you know the truth about the spoiler, could you give us some indication of what sort of twist it is? Does it play a major role in the story, and is it as crushing as some of us have postulated?]

And have you found out anything about the chronology of the game? The [Tarayzan] quote you posted (if it was a quote) seems to suggest it’s a sequel.
It's definitely a sequel to Rayman 2. I don't entirely know about Rayman 3 or RRR - there don't seem to be any direct references to those games.
[After the end of Rayman Origins, Rayman already knows the 4 Teensie Kings (and he probably knew them before Origins, too), he knows about a certain twist he didn't know about in Rayman 1, etc.]
The "prequel" thing comes from back when they were also planning for this to be the story that explained how Rayman came into existence and how he met Globox. That's been scrapped and it's now a sequel. Rayman being created by nymphs is still canon though, as it's said when Rayman pulls the Bubble Dreamer's beard.

And about the spoiler - [I think that plays the biggest role in the story out of all the things that happen - with Big Mamma as the final boss being just an "aftertaste". I probably spoiled a lot by saying this, but just wait till you see the game. It might not all be as you expected...]

Bionichute - [try downloading the Xbox 360 demo to PC somehow, extract its contents and go to the "localisation" folder. There is a file there that has all the text in all the languages. If you can't do it then you'll just have to wait until the game comes out, because really, spoilers ruin the experience.]

[I already tried to download the Xbox 360 demo onto my laptop – I created an Xbox Live account and everything – but it turns out you need a gold membership in order to download demos. Reading scripts isn’t that big of an issue for me; I often read the scripts of films that I’m looking forward to. The way I see it, you’re still getting the whole story from start to finish, and in the correct order, so nothing is ever ‘spoiled’ in advance. It can also be very interesting to see how the filmmakers (or in this case the developers) interpret the script, and contrast that to the way you imagined it, sort of like reading a book before watching its film adaptation. (Not sure why we’re hiding this discussion, but whatever.)]

[Regarding the Teensies: Rayman 2 contains a possible explanation. They were locked in a cage so long that they forgot which one of them was the king, so it could be that they also forgot their friendship with Rayman.]

If it’s a sequel to Rayman 2, then it’s almost certainly a sequel to Rayman 3 as well: there’s no reason for Origins to be set between R2 and R3, and it would be terribly weird if it was.

It makes little sense now! The Teensy we thought might be the king of the Grand Minimus... after forgetting it, yet now he seems to perfectly know he is a king (probably)... and the Magician and Mr. Dark [see, I said it so to make people not know they're the same person] and and and AUGH

The Grand Minimus already seemed to have sorted themselves out by the time of Rayman 3.

Metacritic scores are here:

PS3: http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstat ... an-origins
360: http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/rayman-origins
Wii: http://www.metacritic.com/game/wii/rayman-origins

Mostly positives and only one mixed so far, hopefully it'll stay that way when the magazines get hold of it [ugh NGamer for example].

Yes, but I think their way of sorting out things was they shared the crown as four Teensies.

...ah, in the middle of typing this sentence I remembered that the Grand Minimus (the one and only) comments on Globox swallowing André and about Otto Psi. Forget I said anything. It makes perfect sense now. Move along.

The one mixed review is apparently PS3 only too, so now the PS3 version is rated lower. :fou2:

Also, the least positive of the positive reviews is actually pretty funny at the beginning.

Interesting developments, albeit very confusing and with a total lack of canonical meaning.

If Rayman Origins is a sequel to Rayman 2, then that makes no sense either, because there is the small matter of explaining why the Electoons, Betilla, Mr Dark etc were all absent from Rayman 2 but were very much present in the first game and are now back in a game which takes place after Rayman 2. We still don't know what happened between Rayman 1 and Rayman 2. Where did all those characters go and why did the landscape of Rayman's world change so drastically?

It also means that instead of Rayman maturing into the quiet, heroic character that we meet in Rayman 1 (and who we later see again in Rayman 2), he has devolved into an immature, childish buffoon.

So it looks as though this game has got more plot holes than a Russell T Davies Doctor Who script.

My head hurts... :?
