What makes you say that? What was wrong with it?
Shrouded in the midst of all the new 3D titles being released not many people would have noticed Rayman 2.

You're right. Who would give another 2D platformer the time of day in the heyday of 3D platformers? It would be largely ignored, unfortunately.

Why is that sad? At the time 3D was something new.

I actually think we are lucky for now having a 3D Rayman 2 instead of that 2D one. That wouldn't had been bad but still the 3D one is better.

Indeed, if Rayman remained 2d, he'd certainly not be the legendary character he is today.
Rayman 2 is probably the best regarded Rayman game (Origins could change that), it brought many fans to the series.
Now, imagine if the game remained 2d in a time where 3d graphics were rising...the 2d game would have been nowhere near as successful.

Probably because it was a little late and missed out on Rayman 2, but it did get the special Arena and it got R3, and soon it will get R3 HD.
If Ubi did remake Rayman 2 in HD for Xbox 360, they'd probably be expected to make it for PS3 anyway...

True about arena and #3
but with those You would expect Rayman revaluation with along with those Two. PS2 had it. Gamecube didnt get it though. .

The Xbox came out in late 2001, Revolution came out in early 2001.
Same with the Gamecube.
Basically Xbox and Gamecube came too late for Revolution, but it came in time for Arena and Rayman 3.

I'm not too sure if Origins will draw as much positive attention as Rayman 2 did. I mean, it's great, I love it and it's somewhat different than what I'm used to, but it appeals to me a lot. However, not all fans think this. One of my friends who is a great Rayman 2 fan - especially music-wise; he's a pianowiz (no shit, he's legendary) and can play nearly all tunes Eric created. For the ones he can't, I'm there to help him figure out how it goes :mryellow: - dislikes Origins. He hasn't played it yet, but what he's seen of it from videos doesn't appeal to him. It lost some of the magic, he sais. And I can see what he means - Origins is a lot wackier and toonier but also a lot sillier and I like this, but he does not, and I can see how others could think the same.

But anyway, I think a wacky 2D platformer is just what this era needs; in a world of shooting games, a kiddy-friendly, but also challenging and fun game is the best alternative type of game I can think of.

I was talking more about the critical reception, but as for general regard, it would be hard to top Rayman 2.

He was a bit uncertain as he judged it whilst watching a gameplay video of one of the first levels during class today and told me it'd maybe be best if he came round to play it one time. But I think it's not really his kind of game. He's a bit more into the magical aspect of Rayman, while Origins explores the silly aspect.
