Wow, that picture of the drums seems to show a small kitchen counter on the right - that must be a hard time preparing dinner. And that's quite the computer installation you have there. At first I thought you hooked up your computer to two screens, something you see a lot of developers do a lot, because it's easier to work with... and here I am in the tiniest room of my house working on a maybe one-and-a-half foot long screen while you have two massive ones of three feet, some heavy recording gear and a hell of a load of inspiration, I would say (though if I can say so I don't lack that either).

Well, great work collecting all that stuff! It must be brilliant to just stroll around your room and go "Hmm... let's see which of these I'll play today."
Keep rockin', girl! :D

Do you have a problem with that? :boon:
Well not like a problem, rather a complex. Taking into consideration that I'l bee looking for a flat in not such a long time from now on, not to mention a house in 10 years time. DUDE!!!

Wait what? A completely PURCHASED house from just a bunch of instruments? (Admittedly they're professional looking ones, but STILL) Where do you live?

I just got my new job. Now a hire-able single person apartment to me would be a dream come true. Unfortunately, there are currently only buy-ables being built within my town. I wish to stay where I grew up.

An entire house though? Pfff, I wouldn't even think about it! Those buggers are expensive, even if at this moment the average price has gone down because of economy.

He's from Poland. You can excuse him.
I'm not being 'racist' as some people incorrectly put it, I'm Polish too but you already know that.

How much do they cost out there? They sound so cheap, brick buildings being compared to a set of instruments. In price even!

It might be a bit more of an issue on the 'instruments' side. Instruments are noticeably expensive here, at least at where I live.

That's true.. different economies make different prices. For all we know, canadian instruments may be incredibly cheap?

Hi.

My instruments in total:

Yamaha MO8 synthesizer - $1600
Yamaha 61 key - $300
Acoustic piano - $4000
Electric kit - $750
Acoustic kit - $1500
Flute - $300
Oboe - $2000
Alto sax - $650 (used, worth $1000)
Electric guitar - $1100
Acoustic guitar - $350 (sale, worth $900)
5-string bass - $500
Djembe drum - $80
Didgeridoo - custom, so free
x2 SM57 - $300
Large guitar amp - $1000
Medium bass/keyboard amp - $400
Small amp - $50
Effects pedal board - $250
Computer build - $3000

Total - $18,300 ~ish (€14,000) (£12,000)

Sounds like a lot? Keep in mind I have two jobs I work for money, plus I'm sixteen so I don't have to pay rent. I've also been gathering all this stuff for about four to six years. Working two jobs without rent gets you quote a large sum of money.

Living in Canada is very expensive though, and all that could get you an extremely cheap, tiny, leaky, rat-infested house that's a hundred years old, or a very mediocre flat.

That is indeed a lot of money. I never expected any instruments to cost that much.* But the same rule applies here, I believe. The best you can get out of that amount is a new big family car, and that's not even comparable to a place to live.

(* Although, when I had trumpet lessons, I did learn not to drop it. Even by accident. I quietly wonder how I got my diploma for the basic wooden flute. I was even terrible at that. I never was at synch with the other students, and I always made at least two wrong notes. I quit trumpet lessons by the way. After dropping it for the twentyfifth time my teacher was certain that music was not my thing. And he is right. I hated it deep down to the bone just because I couldn't do it right.)

Now I am wondering what two jobs are these and when do you have time for ROTD. In poland even if you're a freakin genius in something you are very probable not to find work if you don't find someone to promote you in the first place. I love my country but I think it will be better to start in england and then get back to poland. (its not a well known fact but if there is something poland can be proud of then it is definetly the women! Very good reason to keep my love for this land)

One of my jobs is computer maintainence, construction and repair (in which I have a fairly high chair), and it's about a half-hour trip from home that I go to from 17:00 to 22:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 12:00 to 6:00 on Saturdays. The other job is teaching piano at the studio where I used to take lessons, which I do from 18:00 to 21:00 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Every single time slot in my weekdays are packed with school and extra-circular activities, so I'll be lucky to have half an hour to sit at my computer at home. However, Saturday nights and usually Sunday I have free (although often things happen on Sunday).

Dear Bubble Dreamer, you pull eighteen-hour shifts?!
extra-circular activities
As long as you round those up nicely.

No but seriously I'm finding it more and more impressive how you can actually manage to get any progress in this project at all. You have one packed life - though I'm sure you're loving it; for what else reason would you be doing all those things?
... I hope you're not in a relationship - not in a cruel way, but it's quite obvious that that would take away any other time you have and I think you need some time alone too; I mean, everyone does.

So, let's review: half an hour a week for ROTD, progress is amazing. What would happen if you could spend days on end on it?
...
You'd have it finished in a month! :mryellow: Okay, maybe Maths isn't my strongest subject.

I think I just figured out what annoys me about you but explaining it, would take another two pages of this thread and we don't want that this time, now do we? ;) ok but still Rayfans timetable is very dense, well that's something new. I got interested in your persona now! ;D esspecially that you told me a lot of useful pieces of information. If I were in Canada I could rob you nicely xD...

...Or I could break into your house, take off all my clothes and await you to come... Creepy isn't it? :D
(I heard once about such event, it seems funny to me xD)

For money? It's not what I would call "fun" or "enjoyment," but it's not really boring either. Working on computers can get quite frustrating when the customer tells you what's wrong with their computer, I look into it, and it turns out to be something completely different, and I literally have to find the problem myself. It's great satisfaction when you successfully fix someone's computer though.

Teaching piano lessons is pretty neutral, but definitely has its ups and downs. Some ups would be the exhilaration of the job itself (plus I like working with children), but some downs might be that I tend to be tired at that time of day, and sometimes I can't wait for it to end. If it's a holiday and I'm fresh, then it's quite fun.

Depressingly, I was back in 2010, but that's also when I realized that middleschool "love" was stupid. Plus, I've lost almost all of my drive. I'm just not interested.
Shrooblord wrote:So, let's review: half an hour a week for ROTD, progress is amazing. What would happen if you could spend days on end on it?
I'd say I give it more like an hour and a half per week. If I had all day, every day, then I might say I could have it done in a year or two. Because obviously I wouldn't spend more than a few hours on it every day; I'll admit it's tiring work.

I'm actually interested myself to know what's on your mind, honest.

You truly are the master of subtly.

Also I'm sorry if I ever come across as cynical, harsh or immature, but I hope it's understandable since my hours are driving me mad. I myself hate it when I do. Only a year and a half til I graduate....

Good luck Rayfan, were cheering you on.
BTW Revenge of the dark will sooner or later need an official website with a "donate money" page to help with the project.

Unfortunately, that "donate money" button would legally have to be named "donate money to this project if you want me to be sued."

This is true. It seems that people forget more often that this game contains copyrighted material. I bet it's because Rayman's so awesome we completely forget about the fact Ubisoft owns him.

Let alone the programs like Cryengine and 3DS max that Rayfan is using...for free, sure. But what when they learn she made money out of their software, that she did not buy?

Well Autodesk (3ds Max) would have no means of knowing I used a pirated copy, or if I even used their software, because the situation is far too ambiguous and I can claim whatever I want. For CryEngine and... Rayman, this is obvious like Spanex stated.
