It's difficult if I didn't know whar moth and record meant...

I wasn't actually critisizing it,I didn't notice the description because I didn't know what those words meant :(

A moth is an insect. It is quite similar to butterflies, and is related to them anyway. A large number of those are nocturnal (that means they are active at night; plus they usually sleep through the day), but there are in fact some diurnal species too (active at day, sleep through night). Also if I recall from my studies, there may be some crepuscular species too, but I can't be too sure of that, I'd have to check again. A common way to insult a person is to call them a one who had sexual intercourse with a moth, thus ''mothafucka''.

Announcement:

I am seriously going to slow down my thought process on this project. If I look at the fact that I've been working on this for two and a half years and the progress I've made, the idea of a demo up for download this Summer is almost laughable. Why have I made this decision? I've decided to go entirely for quality over time, as this is a production I wish to be nothing less than an amazingly grand experience.

I've been researching the productions in various Disney and Pixar animated films (because I've been influenced by Disney, especially story and art-wise), and I realize the amount of care and detail that went into their works, more notably in their earlier years. Did you know Bambi was stalled ten years in production just because their animators weren't fully comfortable with drawing in a realistic setting? If I rush myself into completing this in three or four years from now, the results would be unpleasant. If I hadn't thought about it as much as I have now and I did end up releasing it so soon, I would end up pleased with the results, blinded by a true perspective on my own creation. My standards over that small amount of time would progressively lower significantly, to the point where the art design would look about as unfitting as a McDonalds in the middle of a forest.

With that in mind, I don't care how long I take, and I won't even think about it. I can tell already for the most part which teammates will be dedicated enough to work with me through til the end, but a lot of that also depends on this forum's activity, which I sincerely hope flourishes for a long time to come. Given its current popularity and loyal fans, my comrades shouldn't be hard to get in contact with if ever they were to leave this forum.

My goal is to create this game with astounding quality, the kind of game that could have you awing at the pure beauty of the environment, without having anything specifically eye-catching. Now why would I want to not have your vision drawn to specific things that compose "beauty" so heavily, even if there is gameplay to match the quality? If I were to have so many things that stood out, you would completely lose focus of what's happening in front of you - not in a literal way, but take a look at it from Rayman's perspective - it's almost the midway between extravagance and simpleness. So what I'm going to do is head for creating beauty not in equal balance with your irrelevant surroundings, but literally blend it in so that your surroundings are fantastic while almost directing your vision forward in the direction of the main event. This is a technique I've learned from "Wong," one of Disney's most revered artistic directors.

For the gameplay, I wish to have interesting platforming/solo acts, varied battle styles, plus the satisfaction of taking out an enemy - the bigger, the more satisfying, and an upgrades system similar to that of Rayman Revolution's except you pay with tings (aka, they are balls of energy that can be combined to create you new powers and upgrades).,

What can you expect from the non-gameplay aspect? I'm aiming to have detailed and convincing cutscenes and animation where much of the character development takes place. One of the things (like stated in the previous sentence) that I am very fond of is character development. Rayman and his friends aren't basic characters in my view, there's a lot going on behind that big nose and milky eyes, and I want to show some of it here. A good example would be when Rayman, Moskito, Moskette and the Musician are all riding on the boat in the river leading from Fort Night to the Crying Moor (the environment: a night time ride through a thin river in a dense jungle, complete with the dancing fireflies that join in with the Musician for a musical number telling the legend of the Shrine of Myre), when you all stop over off to the side for a good night's sleep around a campfire. During that scene, the band of travelers engage in conversation. Rayman and the Musician are catching up on their pasttimes and adventures (with the Musician explaining how the Blue Mountains were completely engulfed in darkness, and you reciting your journey so far), while Moskito and Moskette flirt with each other. At one point I've planned out, Rayman gets cold and begins shivering both from the cold and from his words he's about to speak: for the first time being completely open with his emotions and feelings, stating "I don't know if I can win this. I mean, I have no idea where He is (in reference to Dark Rayman), and... I... I'm starting to believe I'm not powerful enough."'

So mcuh to say. I feel like I want to say more, but I also feel I'm beginning to ramble, it's 4:30 AM. In short, I've decided to focus on detail and quality far before I begin to worry about laughable, timed goals, so this may take a lot longer than three years (my old estimate).

This is just the beginning. It's almost fitting for a 200th page.

TeensieKing wrote:I just thought that it would be strange that a character has a name which is a normal word.
Hoodoo = Bringer of bad luck. Hoodoo Sourcerer is therefore the Sorcerer of Misfortune. Also, 'to hoodoo' is 'to cause bad luck'. Like it? I used the play on the words a lot in my Hoodoo Sourcerer song.
As for translating, I'd like to volunteer (meaning I get no profits if that helps you decide) for English-to-Dutch. The only thing I refuse to translate is names. Leave the names as they should be. That's my main issue with translations sometimes. Not trying to take away your work, Spanex, but if quality's something you're looking for, Rayfan, my lingual skills stand out among those of most people (again not actually meaning to offend anyone, just advertising myself). As for activity, the Spore community has died over a year ago, yet, I still come there every week or so just to see if anything new's up. So you can expect me to be loyal to the forum if it goes under.

As for your other notes, RayFan, they seem to me to be very well-considered and thought through. I hope you'll be able to realise your dreams, as I am determined to realise mine in the exact same way. And I think we will be able to do this very thing; you see - Rayman seems to be so interwoven in both of us, that neither of us will let it go if times seem harsh. I'm sure of that. So good luck and good times ahead!

And now I should really get back to studying. See you guys!

Thanks for the concurrence! Reading my post through a second time now during the day, it wasn't as rambled as I thought.

As for hiring more people, I'll only do then when the time is right. For now I only need a modeler or two (that3Dguy). My main problem I need to overcome right now is exporting the Rayman rigged character model, and exporting rigged character models in general. It wouldn't be such a problem if Rayman wasn't limbless, but I need him exported to finish working on the animations and platforming/fighting mechanics. After that when in get to some of the more in-depth fighting mechanics, I may need a C++ coder, and DesLife has already volunteered. Later on I will 'hire' possibly some gameplay designer, most likely from CryDev.net, some more detail modelers, and of course we'll all have a big meeting when it comes time to voice act, but that's in many years from now.

Yep Shroobie, I've noticed you're quite linguistically intelligent, so I'll make sure you get a translation part. About the woven together thing, I say "interconnection between our complexion."

Hey RayFan, I've been thinking of something for quite a while now. Do you even have a complete script to work from? As a very big Pixar fan, I know how much work they put into their stories and scripts. I believe that this still matters with all game programmers when they are making their games. And since you are the only one who have worked on it, I suggest that you maybe could get help from some members here and complete the script for the game. Otherwise, it could happen that you add more and more stuff to the list and then just lose the motivation. But if you don't want to work this way, then it's okay. It's your game after all so you decide. If you want, I could help you thinking up some good stories in the game.

I've got a "fairly" solid script in my head, I only have to get it typed out, which I'll start on today. Right now actually.

I forgot, can you resend me your Murfy lines? I had to reformat and I think I forgot to copy it over.

Hello no I haven't. If I added bones to Rayman's lack of bones, how do you think he does all his limbless movements that aren't physically possible if one were to have bones?
