It's far easier by ear for that kind of thing. The Tricky Treasure theme obviously had a progression, but it was heavily improvised. Notating ornaments and additions is just stupid, considering that they are what defines a playing style, and they would conflict with another's. It could work if a heavily simplified version was written.

Tru dat. For theme's like the Hoodoo Theme and the Cave of Bad Dreams (or any other 'real' song perhaps) that wouldn't really count, but for pieces with improvisation you should simply note 'improv' and at most note down the chords used in the improvisation.
