Does anything special happen if you collect all 999 Lums? (or for that matter, the secret 1000th Lum as well?)

No, nothing happens, I believe. A different sound plays when you collect the secret lum though.

Yep. Well, if you collect 999 Lums you get 99,9% of the game complete. However, if you catch the 1000 Lums, you get 100%.

I find rayman 2 on Gbc hard to beqat cause of the weird controls.

They should have added some kind of special ending cutscene should you manage to collect all 1000 Yellow Lums. I'd definately add one.
PS
Strangely enough, the Heart of the World is back together again at the end of Rayman 2, regardless of whether Rayman collects all 1000 Yellow Lums. I guess without the Pirates around to stop them, the Lums can simply travel back to eachother and reunite as the Primordial Core with their own strength?

I still find these mystical lights with the powers to create life and shape it intriguing.

If they could travel and join together of their own volition, there would be no reason for Rayman to collect them. It’s simpler just to assume that Rayman collecting all of the Yellow Lums is the canonical outcome of the game.

Yes, especially when you consider that the robo-pirates are still on the scene when you revisit levels.

That's what I think to, but still I wonder how the Lums got there on their own; but perhaps you are right and the game hasn't truly 'ended' if Rayman doesn't collect all Lums. Maybe Polokus did it for him when he beat the robots on land?

Yes, but also consider how some events replay - Carmen is back in the cage in Whale Bay, though the switch has already been flipped so she can come back out. If we want to head into this direction with the discussion, I'm going to start by saying that revisiting levels, if not for the intention of story progression, is like travelling back in time. I hardly believe the Pirates would rebuild all of the Precipice - as I think those wooden structures are Pirates' work, right? - just to blow it all up again once Rayman goes there a second time.

In the original game, it’s obvious that Rayman is simply walking back to locations he visited previously, as the Electoons he’s freed are nowhere to be seen, and the bosses he’s beaten are not fought again. In Rayman 3, it’s clear that the player is travelling back in time to re-live events which could only have occurred once. In Rayman 2, it’s all a bit murky and not really certain one way the another.

I always assumed the new Heart of the World just started smaller, if you know what I mean.

I'm trying to understand, but it's not quite catching on. You mean to say that the Heart of the World reformed, even though not all Lums are collected, because the Pirates are now gone and the world is no longer in chaos so there's nothing to disturb the Heart from reforming? Makes sense.

Not sure if anyone remembers, but, Droolie, weren't you working on ripping those models from Rayman 2? How's that going?

He sent a PM to me – and Haruka, for some reason – with the subject ‘I just know’ and the contents ‘Read the subject’. In other words, it’s nonsense.

It's understandable, because apparently everybody knows that moderators are omniscient.

Indeed. But proofs would be welcomed for the yellow Globox's name. I wonder if there's any interesting info hidden in game files of different versions of Rayman 2's medias of distribution (cds, etc).

Ekhem!!!

https://raymanpc.com/wiki/en/Globs

This article says that there is difference in numbers of globox's children. Well there is no difference, actually since the page in references says "35 sons". Sons doesn't equal children. Just thought I point it out.
