Lac-Mac has finished being textured! Also per MLII's request, I made the arms shorter:

Now lets compare that to the first bit of the model I showed on the IRC:

Spoken like a true Lac-Mac!

I actually improved him more by editing the colours, and improving the eyes, nose and ears textures, plus I made the ears a little more inconsistent to look more membranous:

Thanks very much everyone! :)

Gais, I figured a way to work on a new level without my HDD! I found I had cached backups of all my environmental assets that I used previously; the only thing I can't do is actually play, I can only create the level. Obviously this will lead to a couple problems that can only be solved through actual gameplay testing, but I think this is good enough until I get my HDD back.

With about an hour and a half of modeling, lighting and placing, I achieved this:

Now, after working on it for a total of three hours doing similar stuff, I have this:

If anyone's wondering, this is the beginning to Gemstone Temple, as you walk through the ruins, then approach the underground entrance.

By the way, this is only a half of it. Seeing the fireflies in motion, the fog morph, and the trees blow in the wind is the true glory. I'll see if I can upload a video soon.

Will all levels be that dark or will there be more Rayman 2-ish levels? And will other Lums make it to the game or just red ones?
I actually think you should put every Lum again, like in R2...

EDIT: I forgot to say Gemstone Temple looks awesome! Modeling is very good, and textures look very good. But from what I can see,you need to work a bit on Lums. They shouldn't be that affected by darkness, since theya re meant to be shiny. They just need a more shiny and glowing effect.

This is a night time level my good sir, at least the first part of it is. There will be plenty of bright day levels. And no, I'll only have red lums and maybe purple lums.

I never thought of them as being super glowy, though I guess they could use a little bit of sparkle. I don't want them to be too shiny and stick out, since this game has a lot more lighting contrast than Rayman 2. ;)

It's one of my favourites as well. :mryellow: You even come across the battlefield here that you saw in Rayman M as one of the central rooms.

We'll be getting there eventually. I'm working on a trailer.

Are you completely oblivious to everything? Read the original post; I cannot stress that enough. :?

And I'm about to double post....

Rayman: Revenge of the Dark [STRESSTEST DOWNLOAD]

Post by Adsolution »

DOWNLOAD THE RAYMAN: REVENGE OF THE DARK STRESS-TEST IMMEDIATELY!

NOTE: In the readme it says to email for a password. Disregard that; the login info is:

Username: rotd_testers
Password: darkrayman

Be absolutely sure to read the readme inside the "RaymanROTD-StressTest" folder! If you don't, then it will not work. One of the things you need is a username and password to run the stresstest, and to get it, follow the instructions in the readme.

Just so you don't lose your heads: You don't play as Rayman in this, you are only controlling a first-person camera that you can observe the small area with. It controls like an FPS. The main purpose of this is to 1) test your performance, and 2) observe the ambient environment. However, there are two ways in which you can escape the ruins' boundaries and wonder aimlessly through the forest that is only there for background purposes, but I won't tell you how.

I've stripped the game completely down to only what you see in the area and I've packed all the files, so don't think you get to let your hands on some nifty assets. To be honest though, the most you'll be able to sneak out are some low-poly tree models with 3D Ripper DX; I don't even know if that programme works in CryEngine3.

Unless you have a decent computer, this won't run too well. Fortunately I've included three graphics settings you can switch between (low, medium, high (default is on high)), but that won't save you if you don't have a decent computer.
