Well I said I wouldn't release a "full" demo in Summer. This would just be a gameplay demo, not an actual "demo demo." Sorry if that's confusing. As we go though, I'll be gradually keeping more and more private, as I've started already. I'm not revealing any more of the already-completed Gemstone Temple level, and I won't be posting everything I do. I'll do my best to post a decent amount of updates though to keep you all interested.

Nah I understand, it isn't that complicated.
And I get why you would do things more.. private but it's a bit of a dissapointment for me...
I just LOVE seeing your progress on the game, but I understand why you wouldn't show us that many anymore, I think I would've done the exact same thing if I were you.
(btw is spelling better now? I'm Finnaly paying a little attension now XD)

Don't worry! Like I said, you won't notice much difference between the frequency of my updates. If anything, they'll be even more frequent. The difference is merely that you'll be asking yourself a lot more trivial questions because I'm not filling in the gaps. Only a playthrough will plaster those pieces together.

Damnit I keep mixing the n's and l's up in finnaly for some reason

Oh and I'm happy to hear the the frequency of the updates won't.. lower (Sentence = hard)
Anyway keep it up and keep doing what you where made for: making this awesome game where lot's of people's voices and idea's are used but the core is all made by a single awesome person!.... Try to say that without breathing XD

Downloaded the stress-test, and hopefully it'll run. I'll give you my system specs if it does - maybe that'll help you see how well a great computer from 2005 can do. Seriously, it was a brilliant computer... at the time. It's still quite good now, but it's not excellent. OK, I'm going to run off to play now. Byesies!

Ran the test. It looks amazing so far! The atmosphere of it all, the eerieness... great differences in graphic settings too - not too much of the environment is altered, like in most quality changes, but really tedious things like fog are removed, which is a great loss in quality, but a great gain in performance. I don't know where you got the nice sounds you occassionally hear buzzing around or gawking from the tree-tops, but they complete this tiny arena of rocks. If I were as far as you were in your progress, I'd just be walking around in my areas all day long... XD

Anyway, as for the framerates:
On High, the FPS fluctuated around 22 to 40, and stabalised around 35.
On Medium, the fluctuation was 38-45 and the stability was around 42 FPS.
On Low, the framerate reached its unexceedable maximum framerate of 60 FPS (my PC never seems to go over this, also with games like R2 - of course you know why this is, but I don't). In any case, fluctuation around 57-60 (tiny amount of fluctuation there) but it would mostly hover around 58 FPS.

Surprisingly, the framerate is improved while walking around and decreased as you stand still. I don't know what excellent measures you have used to achieve this, but that is a great positive. Usually games lag as soon as you move around and you are forced to stand still a few times to let the game catch up. With you, it's the other way round! ;P

Resolution was 1280x1024 (my monitor). System specs are:
Win XP SP 3 (Win XP because 7 pisses me off when it comes to every single game I play plus all the locations of directories plus other stuff... for the rest, only tradition is a real factor in my decision to keep running XP rather than upgrade. Once my computer dies, I'll move on to 7.)
AMD Processor (Model unknown, but my graphics card is apparently an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS version 295.73)
3.01 GHz, 2 GB of RAM, Physical Address Extension
Also, computer dates from 2005, so that's a big factor. :P

Thanks. The sound effects in the background were taken partially from Raving Rabbids, and from a variety of other sources, and then edited into the background ambience. As for the graphics setting, that was my goal, to have as little detraction from the quality as possible while increasing the performance, but the differences are big enough so that you would rather play the game on high and be slightly laggy than play on low and have a higher framerate. I think it turned out well.

Graphics cards for a long time have been built to send out a maximum refresh rate of 60 hertz, or 60 FPS. It's a hardware thing. The same go for monitors: they've been built to accept a maximum of 60 refreshes per second (CRT screens are able to go higher, but their max refresh rate varies depending on the card, and unless your graphics card allowed that, it can't). In the past couple years some newer cards have been built to output 120 hz, along with monitors built to support 120 hz to allow for a 3D stereoscopic display. The reason it doubles is so that it can simultaneously process two frames at a time: one for each eye.



On another note, I'm casually wondering if anyone would be interested in designing the common enemies you meet throughout the game. If you are interested, just draw or sketch one out and PM it to me. :) It would be nice if I could have a fair bit of input, as I'm having a lot of trouble designing them. Here's the description:

The main and common enemies of the game are souls taken from the dead by Dark Rayman, and stuffed into bodies, suits of armour, clothes, or whatnot. If they have a face, it's either very strange or completely non-existent. They also should have blasters that resemble the hoodlum's, though a little bit shorter. If possible, I would like their design to be rather slick, but very quirky.

Designing contest! It's my time to shine! I've designed so many things for my own game already that are based on either Antitoons or Pirates, I think I may be able to make something alike a Hoodlum. I hope I will - if so, I can then design stuff in the setting of all three major games! I'll see what I can whip up...

Oh, nothing wrong with dying and all, just that Rayman games haven't ever implied that someone died before. I mean, sure, one could clearly conclude from certain things that people died, but it's never really been said - it's been suggested though (come to think of it, Reflux did really die, so nevermind, I guess...).

Already finished sketching one particular person, though not sure if he fits into a Rayman game at all... anyway, I'll submit my sketches to you later, when they're done.

Even when said ROTD "death" turns out being more important than the plot itself?

Aha, Lac-Mac lives, don't worry. But THIS gAmE H4s MULTIPLE 3NDI1ngS!!. The determining factor is realistic and small, but depending on which you cause to happen, one will make you very sad, and one will skew the reality of the Rayman universe as we know it.

Either way, someone dies, but I ain't sayin' who(s).
