No I disagree, while Origins does have little seriousness by no matter of means does it lack dignity. You're saying that the game lacks dignity for the mere fact that it does not act serious for most of the game.

Yes it could've been better if it did hold some more elements of seriousness however the game itself, especially in this day ,holds much more seriousness than most other games out there. For that it deserves more respect than your giving it.

Hello everyone! Im Mammothphant 2 and Im new here. This Rayman Origins discussion is quite popular now, so i guessed that this would be the place to introduce myself. Im a big Rayman fan and I was prievously on the official Rayman Discussion. But it wasnt any active, it was almost dead so i decided to go here. This is much more active and the very right place for Rayman fans. Ive been reading this forum and there are many heart warming discussions.

Anyway as i said prievously im a BIG, 17 years old, half greek and half finn fan of Rayman games since i played Rayman 2 in 2002 (i think. not sure). Heres a list of Rayman games i have:

PC: Rayman, Rayman Gold, Rayman 2 The great escape, Rayman M, Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Rayman Raving Rabbids Activity center, Rayman Premiers clics, plus Tonic Trouble, Beyond Good and Evil and King Kong. Im gonna buy Rayman Origins right away when it comes for PC

PS2: Rayman Revolution, Rayman M

GBA: Rayman 3, Rayman Hoodlums Revenge, Rayman Raving Rabbids

My top 5 favorite characters are Rayman, Globox, Uglette, Carmen and the Rabbid ship from the cancelled R4. You know the gigantic fat one with the Laser eye. I like also many more characters but ill maybe list em later.

For some reason i cant login there in my own PC, so I use moms one, so I cant actually write here every day. By the way Ive seen that every member has a picture of some Rayman character below their name. How can I add mine?

Thats it for now. Ill be writing here every day i can or have time. :D

Hello there Mammothphant 2! Welcome here.

That picture is your forum rank. They are determined by Tings ( the blue things under your name ) that can be earned by posting, winning contests or given by other users.

By the way, there is WAY more threads about different raymanian things in the "Rayman" forum of the "English forums" and "French forums" like "Favorite Character", "Favorite Level", "Emulators" etc., so DON'T post here anything you want to post. ;)

Also, there is an "Please Introduce Yourself here" topic in "Members Forum".

I can confirm this suspicion with my four-player experiences... man, that's amusing.

I feel like the thing that really makes a Rayman game viable is its story; it doesn't have to be an obvious or intricate one, it just has to fit the game. In Rayman 1, the story was quite simple: the world is captured, it needs to be saved. Why Rayman was the perfect candidate to do this, I don't know, since he didn't have any powers nor experience as far as we know when it comes to beating bad guys, but it turned out he did a good job at it. The main gist of it was 'travel the lands, free the prisoners and face the bad guy' and it didn't need any more explanation than that. Some levels had their own sub-story, like Eat At Joe's, which had the 'please turn on the power so you can use the elevators again' subplot.

Rayman 2 had a very detailed storyline. Events followed onto each other logically and, like Ancel said himself, it was very important how the levels followed onto each other. It had to feel natural, the way Rayman travelled from one place to another, so the transitions between areas were put there deliberately and with good thoughts behind them.

Rayman 3 was not really like this, as Rayman seemed to be forced to go to random locations in hope of finding a way to get the Black Lum out of Globox so he could stop him. While the travels were in themselves quite random, the story made sense. This is what made it a good one.

Rayman Origins had no real story, and that's its main weakness, I think we've come to see. The only things you know have happened is that the world is in peril because evil forces came and imprisoned everything and Rayman is out to stop it. Along the way, he learns more things, such as the story behind the four kings and that devious Magician who was tricking everyone all along.
But hey... doesn't that sound familiar? No real storyline, subplots, clear purpose? Why, it reminds a lot of Rayman 1! I think Origins doesn't really need an elaborate plot to make sense. The locations they travel to do seem a bit random though, I'll grant you that. Its atmosphere is great in my opinion, but that's just because I'm blown away by the artwork, and especially because it's all hand-drawn. When I came to the factory levels and saw the railings, I couldn't help but be reminded of the railings in the SoSaF and other places in R2. The artists had done such a good job to try and combine different aspects of the games and I commend them for it.

In my opinion, Origins is a great addition to the Rayman series. Sadly, I do agree that it should be less of a sequel and more of 'just another Rayman game'. There's no real additions to the story arc of the series in this game, so it doesn't add much to the overall history of the franchise. This is what's a bit disappointing about it all.

I wasn't too blown away by the artwork, mostly because everything that was animated was done, like Spiraldoor said in the Off Topic, in the "modern flash cartoon style." In Rayman 1, the characters and the backgrounds were drawn in the same style, which is what gave it an incredible atmosphere for me. However, in Origins, they are drawn in completely opposing styles, which just doesn't work so much for me. If they had either made the whole thing flash-cartoony or made the characters as detailed as the backgrounds and scenery, then I would be much more awed. It almost seems like the artists weren't sure what style they were trying to achieve.

In my opinion, the Moody Clouds held the most atmosphere (no pun intended). The music along with the scenery artwork did look great.

Well I agree,it doesn't feel like a proper Rayman 4 for me either.I mean, for me a proper Rayman 4 should be 3D like R2/R3,because I personally think that 2D are already kinda left behind, besides Mario games, which have both.

A PROPER RAYMAN 4 SHOULD HAVE A FUCKING STORY,FOR GOD'S SAKE! While Rayman Origins is fun to play,it completely lacks what a real Rayman 4 should have in my opninion: a good and new storyline which makes you feel like if you were in the game, like in Rayman 2.It should have 3D levels, because it's funnier, more detailed environments and has better hidden cages.

Rayman Origins it's 2D again, which is not bad at all,but I actually see it as a backwards step. And lacks the things which, for me,makes the difference between a good game and an epic one, lacks a creative and brand new storyline, which for Rayman should have a magical feeling, full of fantastic creatures with amazing powers, new awesome enemies you can enjoy while beating and a good reason to collect things.

Not to create a flamewar or something, because I think each one has his/her own opinion and it won't change,no matter how long we discuss this. For me,it's fun to play, but I can't consider it an amazing game, just an okay one.It brought me a new platformer to beat, and at least Rayman returned to platformers, but I have to admit this game isn't more than okay.

Wait so making it into a 2D platformer makes a bad game?

I mean come on it has better graphics than some 3D platformers out there, I dare-say it has better graphics than Rayman 2 although it wouldn't be right to compare them since R2 was released back when 3D gaming was introduced but still.

There is nothing wrong with making a 2D game, especially one with outstanding quality for a 2D game.

Serza, no one said Origins was anything remotely close to a bad game - in fact, I stated it wasn't multiple times for the assurance of avoiding a misunderstanding. Let me quote our posts:

Which basically says that a "real game" is a 3D and not a 2D game.

Other issues with Origins, is the way it attempts to create a subplot without maintaining coherent realism into any given situations, which defies all relevant personalities of characters, leaving them impassive to their actual goal. This was the case demonstrated between Rayman and Magician before the chase. Hence why it lacks dignity in some of complementary parts, which didn't happen with previous games. We can all agree that Rayman Origins is a great and incredibly fun game, finally an adventure platformer, but it wasn't exactly what a lot of us have waited for in terms of concepts.

I underline this. The original Rayman Origins DID look quite promising as a game, but again Ubisoft manages to ruin the essencial. :tssk:

I meant that since R2 basic games have been 3D,so for me to be a proper R4 it should continue this. And have the "4" in the title too,of course

I agree, RO is a fun 2d platformer that is worthy of the Rayman title, and it's nice to see Michel back on the helm, but I think most were hoping for a "Rayman 4" return.

I wouldn't be surprised if you wanted R4 to be a fully 3D game (Like with the glasses and that).

Sorry, Spiraldoor, but I have to disagree with you, Rayman Origins has dignity. It respects itself, it's art is completely outstanding and perfectly fitting for Rayman's style, and it's music is amazing. Again: people think that this game doesn't respect itself just for the first trailer, and you know? I agree, at first the game looked too goofy for a Rayman game, with a perverted hero and his Patrick Star; this was perfectly balanced in the final version. Rayman is a good model of a hero, maybe he acts kinda lazy here, but come on, wasn't he a lazy ass in the games?

Even during the intro of Rayman 1 he's found sleeping. I would accept that Rayman Origins lacked in dignity if they decided to use toilet humour and perverted jokes on it, but they didn't! it's just a harmless child-friendly game, and that's the point! The plot was kinda simple, and the story was weak, I must agree (WTF did Gabrielle do? the story writes itself!!), but so was R1's, and hey, at least this one dares to take a dramatic turn and reveal the Magician, one of Rayman's best friends, as an enemy. It was a risky move, but totally worth it.
