Re: Rayman Origins
I didn't really like Rayman 3's OST, though. Origins features some good songs that can get stuck on your head for weeks. Anyway, this game could have been longer... u_u and with more unlockables.

Re: Rayman Origins
To be honest, I think Rayman 3's was the least memorable, but it "fit" into the game the best. All the tracks were perfectly suited to the atmosphere and events in occurrence moreso than in the previous games, and especially moreso than most of Origins' tracks.sergiomonty wrote:I didn't really like Rayman 3's OST

Re: Rayman Origins
Rayman Origins gives too much protagonism to the music, specially during underwater levels, I know, and I can understand that some people dislike this. In fact, Rayman Origins has the one of the weirdest OST's I've heard on a videogame (this includes earthworm jim), it features a lot of underestimated musical elements, such as the "boingy" jew's harp, the weird kazoo, and the annoying chipmunk voices, but it uses them correctly to produce hilarious music. I wouldn't be surprised if serious gamers (unlike me) disliked this soundtrack, because it's really distracting and sometimes, poorly correlated with the situation. However, I'm holding my point, this Rayman game, for me, has one of the bests OST's I've ever heard on the franchise, it's funny, it's clever, and using those annoying elemens to produce musical harmony was a great challenge and a complete success. Rayman 3's music? it wasn't bad, but I disliked it because it was flat and boring.

Re: Rayman Origins
I like your order, mainly because you have M/Arena right up there. Here's mine:need my speed wrote:Concerning soundtracks, for me it's Rayman 1 > Rayman M/Arena > Rayman 3 (the two Gameboy versions) == Rayman 2 > Rayman 3 > Rayman Origins. I think...
Rayman M-Arena > Rayman 1 > Rayman 3 > Rayman 2 > Rayman Origins > Other random Rayman stuff
Though they're all very tight together, since I still love all the music. Like Sergio said, putting Rayman and atmosphere aside, Origins has fantastic music.
Re: Rayman Origins
And I think that "the best soundtrack is..." is again just a matter of taste. Someone would like this soundtrack better and someone other.
I'm not gonna write down which is favorite of mine, because each soundtrack is different and gives unique feel to each Rayman game. But the certain thing is Rayman Origins has one of the most wacky, amazing and original game soundtrack ever, which actually fits to this game perfectly. There was only one game (to me) which has similar tone of wackiness in music: The Neverhood:)

Re: Rayman Origins
I don't really have an order in soundtracks I like more. They all manage to deliver the atmosphere correctly, and they all have tunes that get stuck in my head.
Rayman 1 has this wonderfully childish atmosphere, a bit dreamy even. Same for the music. On RayTunes, "Harmony", one of my favourite R1 tunes, is a perfect example of this.
Rayman 2 has a more serious, mysterious (because of the old, mythical temples) and magical atmosphere. And the music too. "The Celestial Slide" is a good example.
Rayman M's music has a great beat to it that helps you feel really epic while you race. The Teensies' theme is one of my favourites. And yes, even Razorwife's theme gets stuck in my head. A lot.
Rayman 3 has a more enchanting atmosphere, mixed with epicness. Since this game's story is the most detailed of all, the music has more variation to deliver the correct atmosphere. "Curious Globox" is a good example: it's a last moment's rest before the beginning of a new adventure.
Still, I like Rayman Raving Rabbids' and Rayman Origins' soundtracks a lot less, and this is why.
RRR doesn't really have an attractive atmosphere in my opinion. I don't really care about the music either.
Rayman Origins' wacky atmosphere also isn't really good enough for me. The music isn't nearly as memorable as the previous Rayman music. They don't have the Rayman feeling and they sacrifice beauty for a wacky atmosphere. It's as if the melodies got almost no attention. Sure, I can list one or two that come close ("Chasing a Dream" and "The Dragon Chef's Belly") but that's about it.
Rayman Origins could have had a similar atmosphere but better music if the music was more like Rayman M/Arena's. Moody Clouds, for example, would fit great with Timber Wood's music. Mystical Pique could have had music similar to Gemstone Temple from Rayman M. Rayman 3's "Ascending the Waterfall" would fit great in Jibberish Jungle too, even though that track alone beats all of the other Jibberish Jungle tracks.

Re: Rayman Origins
Rayman 3 features some of the best music in the series, but overall, its score is more eclectic and inconsistent than those of the other three games. The problem is that it had too many composers, and at least one of them tried to give the game ‘attitude’ by filling it with grating electronic music. Like the ‘wacky’ nature of Origins’s music, this may have been a creative order from the higher-ups. Rayman 3’s conception was so flawed that it’s a wonder the game managed to achieve such a Rayman-esque atmosphere.sergiomonty wrote:I didn't really like Rayman 3's OST, though. It would be an interesting experiment to hack Rayman Origins and replace its soundtrack with equivalent tracks from other Rayman games, although its interactive sound design might pose some challenges. Before Origins came out, I imagined that any boss fight with Mr Dark might have similar music to the battle with the High Priest at the end of Beyond Good & Evil.Drolpiraat wrote:Rayman Origins could have had a similar atmosphere but better music if the music was more like Rayman M/Arena's. And I'll post something that's on topic on your off topic discussion...
You can't really compare the soundtracks on the rayman games. It's always awesome, but in a different way on each game. (there's obivously always some similarities, since it's all RAYMAN music)

I hope they have good reasons for delaying the 3DS version.
Now about the music, although Rayman 3 is the "weakest" game of the quadrilogy for me, I do think that even Rayman 3 makes a much better job in trying to variate the music, fitting to the gameplay and sound "Raymanish".
The RRR one I honestly like only one music or two, it doesn't tell me anything.
My soundtrack preference: Rayman 2 > Rayman M/Arena > Rayman 1 > Rayman 3 > Rayman Origins

You're right. Exactly. That's my thoughts as well. And I love your suggestion for using Rayman M/Arena's music in Origins.Drolpiraat wrote:I don't really have an order in soundtracks I like more. They all manage to deliver the atmosphere correctly, and they all have tunes that get stuck in my head.

Re: Rayman Origins
I'm gonna find Héral and tell him you guys are dissing his soundtrack.
Seriously though, I personally like the soundtrack of Origins, although it's not one of my favourites. It was pretty obvious that we weren't going to get music similar to that in BG&E anyway, and for what it's worth, what we got wasn't half bad. I even like the early Jibberish Jungle music, mostly because of the awesome beat.
(I know that this particular track eventually does start to sound a bit like BG&E, but shut up!)

I hope they are adding stuff in the game or something like that. (they better be, I mean delayed for OVER 3 MONTHS)
And is Origins' soundtrack really that bad?
Re: Rayman Origins
I'm not saying that RO's soundtrack is bad, the problem in here concerns mostly the "Raymanish" feeling and its fitting in the atmosphere of the gameplay. The soundtrack could be much more better done.
Re: Rayman Origins
To me guys, the Rayman-soundtracks have been a big Allegro Presto-slide since Rayman 1. It was so magical experience in R1 and even R2. R3 I kinda felt it got a bit too dramatic. But I liked it. It always great to have a Rayman game like that. RO is, what should i say.. weird. I do feel that they need to go back to some of the magical music that really suited a exploring journey. (Sorry if I sound pathetic.)
In my opinion all games that were good in late 90's has fallen down. Just look at the joke Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. Those were once good games. Rayman though, hasn't fallen as far down as those. It sad to say it, but I am not sadisfied with RO and R3-port. What are your thoughts on this? What will be the next Rayman-game after this?

Re: Rayman Origins
As long as I know, the meaning of "Raymanish" has lost it's significance over the years, possibly because Rayman games never find a fixed style (sometimes it's cartoonish, sometimes it's fantasy-themed, sometimes it's dark, etc...). This, and the existence of the rabbids and thus Rayman's absence for various years. That's why rayman origins looks so different compared to the other games.
I think a sequel may be good, I mean, let's face it, Michel Ancel is completely in love with the Ubiart motor, and won't make a 3d Rayman game for a looong time. Sometimes sequels are much better than the original games (one example, Super Mario Galaxy 2, which had almost the same concept but was successful).
BTW, yeah, Rayman M/Arena's soundtrack kicks ass.

Re: Rayman Origins
Well, a Rayman Origins sequel would be pretty cool. I think I heard in a interview with a Ancel a few months ago that he would like to continue work with UbiArt. Would be interesting if they kept working with Rayman in 2D. I hope they make a new style of Rayman 2D platform though. Origins was a bit to fast-paced for me personally. I would like a real game where Mr. Dark actually appear as the main part of the story line aswell as the final boss. I think they should continue with those graphics as in RO and focus more on exploration and awesomeness like in R1. Would like some weird obstacles, creative worlds and wonderful music. Maybe they could put some mini-games in. And also, they should have the cages in more hidden places and at the end of each level the "!" sign. Atleast if that didn't return a big "YEAH!" could return at the end of each level again. Again, sorry if I sound totally stupid.
