Re: Rayman M-Arena
Hmm, my 'cracked' 3DS Max has 1 day of trial remaining (crack didn't work, I can't find a normal, working, cracked version anywhere), and further, upon loading it says that those 3DR plugins are 'not valid Win32 applications' (roughly translated). I have 64 bit, not 32, but on that site I can't find a 64 bit plugin, only the same single link.

If you reinstall 3D Ripper DX, it will also ask you if you want to install the 3DR plugins.

Re: Rayman M-Arena
Yeah, that's how I installed them in the first place. But, I'll do it again.
EDIT: Weirdly enough it works now. So, I appear to have a frame of the start of a race. How do I make a nice, say, jumping sprite of this? Simply move the hands and stuff around?

Perhaps, or you could take a screenshot of the moment when the Henchman jumps.
I tried ripping the Henchman textures once, but that was the only texture that refused to rip, sadly.

Hmm, good idea, I'll just keep pressing F12 the whole time he's jumping. And I'll begin with Rayman, since I have his moving sprite already. Better to complete one character than have a thousand 'half-characters'.

Re: Rayman M-Arena
Well, I put it kind of on the backburner this week (exams), but the single attempt I did try kind of failed.
I made Rayman jump and pressed F12 like mad, and I got various frames with Rayman jumping. In some frames, Rayman's whole (or parts of) jumping animation was displayed, so this made it somewhat easier.
So, I removed the whole background, put the Raymans next to each other, and took a screenshot. I then 'converted' (if one could call it that) this screenshot to sprites.
However, this animation looks crappy (I think). It also doesn't really work, but that's Gamemaker's fault (yeah, I'm using that); it seems like sprites are 'teleporting' when changing animations.
Like:
Where < is a character running to the left. Now, when I make him run right, it should become:
But it becomes something like:
The same is true for every animation. I haven't figured out how to solve this, but as I said, I put it on the backburner this week. This weekend, I'll probably try to create some running sprites of, say, Henchman 800, to see whether it's my fault or whether this jump animation just looks like crap.
Also, thank you for your interest.

Re: Rayman M-Arena
I make games in Game Maker, so I can help. Also, on the GMC (Game Maker Community), you could also find me under 'Shrooblord'. You can ask for help there if you need any.
However, I know what your problem is. You know how in sprites you have a little crosshair somewhere in the top-left of the corner of the sprite? This is the sprite's Origin point; it is the point around which a sprite is rotated if you tell the game to rotate your sprite and it is the point Game Maker uses to find an Object's X and Y coordinates. You've probably set up the Origin point wrongly, so that, when you flip the image around, the Origin point doesn't line up with the place it's in on the first image (the one going left - which was the original image, if I remember you saying that correctly). You'll want to put the Origin point on the first image of the sprite, simply by clicking on the picture of the sprite when you double-click on the sprite name from within the resource library to the left. Then you'll want to flip the image to the right and move it across so it lines up with the Origin point as you want it to.
Additionally, open up the Game Maker Help (the blue round '?' button at the very right of the toolbar) and click 'Index'. Now type 'origin' in the search bar and open up the article about additional sprite options by double-clicking the result 'origin, sprite'. The Game Maker Help is your most basic knowledgebase. After that, you could always ask the GMC (or me) - be sure to post in the Novice and Intermediate forum for your simplest of questions; they're really mild and kind in there, but they get strict once you post in the Advanced forum when your question is not for the advanced.

Yeah, I did ask this on a Dutch Gamemaker forum, but nobody really replied (and of course I put it in the beginner / novice subforum
).
Anyway, thanks a lot for your help, I'll certainly try it out!

Re: Rayman M-Arena
I'll have a look at it.
But, I just noticed, I don't have two running sprites and such. I just use... Well, that function that makes characters face the correct way (x, so, only right and left, not 360 degrees). Should I instead go mirror all my sprites to create both a right and a left version?

Nope, just make sure the origin point on your sprites is placed at the center of the character.need my speed wrote:I'll have a look at it.

Re: Rayman M-Arena
Ah, indeed, it worked!
However, I now, once again, have the problem that some sprites have different collision masks. Isn't there a simple way to have multiple sprites have the same collison mask? Or do I need to count how big the collison mask and the whole sprite is (I use custom collison masks so that Rayman and co stand a bit 'in' the floor, so to say; it looks more realistic, especially with a parallax background) and apply that to all other sprites myself? That's such a tedious task...
For the record, I'm not talking about frames, but, actual sprites, that maybe wasn't clear.

Re: Rayman M-Arena
Sure, you could create one sprite and call that the 'Mask' for the other sprites. Just assign the desired sprite to an object when creating a new object, but assign a mask to it that all other objects also have. What this does is that it treats all sprites as if they were actually another sprite, though they display the sprite you want them to display. Also, look up 'mask' in the Game Maker Help and click the article titled 'More about objects'.

Ah of course, silly me, I knew that. Subconsciously.
Thank you very much for your help, I'll see if this works out tommorow!

Re: Rayman M-Arena
I wonder if we should open a Game Maker thread in the Off Topic section for this... it's clotting up the Rayman M topic. Better yet, you should just look around the GMC if you have questions.
Hey, guys, if UbiSoft were to make a Rayman M 2, what characters from the newer games would you like to see make an appearance? I'd love to be able to play as a Hoodstormer and a Hoodboom, I'd like to see some Origins enemies such as the Hunter and maybe they could even introduce more of those metal pac-man things, except now with different enemies as appearance, such as a really large Darktoon. Who knows?

Re: Rayman M-Arena
Well, the original cast of course, although they can drop Tily if they ask me.
But yeah, most Hoodlums, all variations of Dark and Bad Rayman, all variations of Teensies (including the doctors), eh, Murphy could maybe work, an oversized Antitoon and Electoon, maybe the General, or Razoff, or Bégoniax, maybe a Knaaren (Reflux) would work too. And Tarayzan, the Musician, and Joe, of course!
Basically, every character that is remotely possible (although I do have an instinctive dislike for Clark, Ly, and Polokus as playable characters, but with so many characters, they should be included as well). So, that'd net about a hundred characters I suppose. Excluding skins...

Re: Rayman M-Arena
That looks kind of brutal. I'm not sure I would even want to try and get passed that thing.
And while we're already adding up to a hundred characters, why not throw in a rogue Autobot?
