That looks really nice! Do I see rain? Shouldn't it be cloudier if it were raining?
While we're talking about twin moons, I just want to make sure if you knew Rayman's world had twin suns (or the even better name: binary suns!) too. Do you think the engine will allow binaries?
Along with that I'll put this interesting little link right here. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news ... e-science/

Another Keplar? Awesome, I love those planets. That's definitely interesting.Spanex wrote:Along with that I'll put this interesting little link right here. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news ... e-science/
It should be, but this is the only 360 cloud texture I've worked out so far. Perhaps that can be another texture job for you! Not now, but a bit later.Spanex wrote:That looks really nice! Do I see rain? Shouldn't it be cloudier if it were raining?
That would be much harder to achieve, since CryEngine renders the sun not as a texture, but rather as a glowing HDR spot. So I doubt I would be able to add a second sun, unless I can somehow attach it as a texture to the sky, (like with the moon, but the sun and moon are rendered very differently) and have it dynamically move along with the sun.Spanex wrote:While we're talking about twin moons, I just want to make sure if you knew Rayman's world had twin suns (or the even better name: binary suns!) too. Re: Rayman: Revenge of the Dark [STRESSTEST DOWNLOAD]
Do you think it's a possibility to leave the sun out so it can be replaced with a texture instead? It could be an option. (but a shame that all the pretty sun effects are gone this way.)
Ah, by the way, I'd like to ask something about your piranha. Do the teeth share the same texture? I would like to have a try at them as well.
Edit: And for the future when sending me model refs, could you also send me a front view? Thanks!

Beautiful screens, RayFan!
They look great, as always.

Thanks Haruka!Haruka wrote:Beautiful screens, RayFan!They look great, as always.
Hmm, that is actually possible, although it doesn't quite give the same dynamic effect as the HDR-generated sun.Spanex wrote:Do you think it's a possibility to leave the sun out so it can be replaced with a texture instead? Yep, each of the teeth use the same texture. Keep it at 64x128 or 128x256.Spanex wrote:Ah, by the way, I'd like to ask something about your piranha. Do the teeth share the same texture? I would like to have a try at them as well.
I just sent you a frontviewSpanex wrote:Edit: And for the future when sending me model refs, could you also send me a front view? Thanks!
Also is it possible to send me the textures in a more accessible format than TGA? Preferably in an interleaved PNG, since for some reason Photoshop is having a hard time reading the alpha channels on TGA's.
Re: Rayman: Revenge of the Dark [STRESSTEST DOWNLOAD]
Of course I can. But "interleaved", could you explain that term to me?

Re: Rayman: Revenge of the Dark [STRESSTEST DOWNLOAD]
It doesn't really matter too much about the interleaved, it's just a slightly (only very slightly) more solid form of PNG compression, but it isn't necessary.Spanex wrote:Of course I can. But "interleaved", could you explain that term to me?
I forgot to hit 'sent,' so I just sent the frontview now.
Re: Rayman: Revenge of the Dark [STRESSTEST DOWNLOAD]
Thanks. I'll get to work with it tomorrow.

Hmm... seems my memory tricked me about that scar thing. I meant the great crater on this picture of the moon that has a load of scars running from it. It's not really the same, but whatever.

Re: Rayman: Revenge of the Dark [STRESSTEST DOWNLOAD]
It's a great idea nonetheless, Shroob. If I may use it in the future?
Edit: The texture has been sent. Both in PNG and TGA format for convenience.

Surely you're not using one of those cheap, user-friendly game construction programs?RayFan9876 wrote:What kind of education do you mean?Smega wrote:Rayfan, I need to know. How on earth did you obtain the education to be developing such a high-profile fangame almost single-handedly?

If there's anything I've learned, it's that formal education is very unnecessary. I myself have little to no money to spend on what would be a future post-secondary education in the studio with the chance to use tonnes of professional software, hardware and equipment, because I would rather spend my money on purchasing that software/hardware/equipment for my own use. I don't need to pay someone to tell me how to navigate the workings of CryEngine3, 3ds Max, Photoshop, Logic Pro, and the other programmes I use to create Revenge of the Dark, because I would rather purchase (or pirate then purchase later) the software for myself and learn my own workflow (instead of the teacher's) in the time I have between my two jobs, now that I've quit school just two weeks ago - finishing grade eleven was never going to happen. For the next three years until I'm nineteen (the legal age in Canada), I'm just going to work on ROTD, as well as build my general skillset in many areas (namely music production and modeling/animating). Then at age 19, I'll be on a plane to the UK, where me and a few other people (some from RPC) that have become dedicated will found our indie group. At that point I might be able to gain many more volunteers to work on ROTD alongside myself, and the production will go much faster and better. Even more long-term plans? I have quite a detailed load, but that's for later.
Basically, my point is that one doesn't need to pay for someone to teach you how to use something. For me, raw experience and passion is what cuts the cake.
And Spanex, I'll check out your texture in the morning, because speaking of jobs, I was up until just now (4:30 AM) rewiring someone's computer power supply. I'm honoured though, this customer is one of the nicest I've ever had!

That sounds like quite some plans you've got. My only plans as of now: find and hire an apartment.RayFan9876 wrote: Oh, hehe.

Re: Rayman: Revenge of the Dark [STRESSTEST DOWNLOAD]
Nevermind, I ain't sleepin. Spanex, the texture is a little bit confusing, I don't really know how the main big section to the top right fits onto the model, and how come the mouth is so short and wide? I'm sure you know what you're doing, but I just need a little explanation on how it's laid out. I love the dorsal fin by the way!
EDIT:
Was the image supposed to be transparent at any parts? If it is, the PNG you sent me has no transparency at all. I'll check if it does in the alpha channel....

Re: Rayman: Revenge of the Dark [STRESSTEST DOWNLOAD]
I don't really know, actually. XD Like I said in the mail, the torso and head were a bit confusing to me. So I just tried to go by judging it. I hope you'll be able to figure it out when I say the dark spot will be where the eye is, the crescent shape is a gill, and the yellow blotch should be the belly. I thought the mouth was okay with how I did it. Assuming it will fit on the model symmetrically. It's laying on it's side in the picture, by the way.RayFan9876 wrote:Nevermind, I ain't sleepin. I also added an extra fin, that could be used optionally as pectoral fins. (the little flappy arm-fins)
For the TGA, in some parts, yes. I wasn't sure if PNG Transparency was compatible with 3DS Max, so I left it out.RayFan9876 wrote:Was the image supposed to be transparent at any parts? If it is, the PNG you sent me has no transparency at all. I'll check if it does in the alpha channel....

They are, but all I do is take the PNG then convert it to a DDS for CryEngine. The CryEngine and 3ds Max material editors are linked together, so I don't have to worry whether or not they're compatible with Max. Just send me PNGs with the transparency, that's all I need, since I myself can't do a whole lot with TGAs. I usually edit everything just a little bit anyway (colour touch-ups after seeing what they look like in the engine and such), and it's easiest to do so with PNGs.Spanex wrote:For the TGA, in some parts, yes. And RayFan, your plan sounds... idyllic. Just meet up with a bunch of friends, and have some fun creating games. The life. I'll see what I'm up to when I'm at that age, though probably, I'll be either travelling or in some sort of college... or not. Who knows.
Re: Rayman: Revenge of the Dark [STRESSTEST DOWNLOAD]
what happened to the pages 226, 227?
