Cheat codes for Sega Saturn Rayman 1

No matter what site I go to for cheat codes for the Sega Saturn version of Rayman 1 they always tell me something different or not very helpful

Example: 99 lives cheat

Gamewinners says: Pause, Up, Right+B, Left/Down+R, L, L, Up+Y

GameFAQs says: Pause the game and press and hold X, B, Z. Release and then press and hold L,L, Down, Y. Unpause the game.

Needless to say when I tried both neither of them worked. And it's not only the 99 lives code but other ones like the restore health code. Does anyone know the correct method of inputting these codes?
