Hear that, everyone? Some people on Bionichute’s game news website got excited and started cursing. This means that we should be entirely happy with Rayman Origins 2, and that we should not post anything critical or uncertain about it.
Bionichute wrote:Rayman 2 wasn't even that good. Bland grass levels, bland cave levels, and bland pirate ships.
Sure! Let’s ignore the game’s 90% rating on Metacritic, as well as its place on several prominent publications’ lists of the greatest games of all time. Who needs the intelligent analysis of the industry’s professional critics when you have a dude on the internet named Bionichute to tell you what’s what? Thank you for showing us the light, Bionichute! We will all stop loving Rayman 2 now.
Bionichute wrote:And Spiral, the hall of doors was just a world map, there is no reason to get so obsessive over it.
By directing this remark at me, you demonstrate an acute lack of reading comprehension: I posted this picture specifically in response to another member’s statement that Rayman 2 did not feature surreal locations. Your assertion that this constitutes ‘obsessiveness’ is laughable, as is your contention that environments designed to serve a utilitarian function in a game are inherently unworthy of respect or artistic consideration.

There’s no question about it: we have our fair share of idiots here.

Hey, there are many worse fanbases to be a part of. Take the Minecraft fanbase (I mean the stupidly over-obsessive ones) for example. Since formation in 2010, they take the piss unfairly out of games, just because they share a similar dig, build, exploration mechanics. They're partly the reason I've gone off of the bloody game in the first place. I'm sure the trolls are complaining too, if you really want an irritating fanbase, go visit Encyclopedia Dramatica.
Also:
The Edditaur wrote:We haven't exactly had a complete confirmation directly from Ubisoft yet, either.
The Edditaur wrote:as I've already said, it hasn't been officially confirmed by Ubisoft,
So I'll go for a hat trick here then, for the third time, Rayman Origins 2 has not been officially confirmed by Ubisoft. We don't even know whether these pictures are legitimate or not, they just appeared on Kotaku's doorstep by an Anonymous Tipper-Offer. I'll admit, I'm excited to see a sequel to one of the best AAA platfromers in nearly a decade, but I was hoping for more of what the first game gave me, and maybe even more. I wasn't that bothered at first, but now that I think about it, traveling in time does seem really uncreative. It just doesn't seem Rayman.
Finally, I'll end this with a couple of questions/queries.
1. Mayhaps you could list all of these horrible fanbases?
2. Mayhaps you could also link us to your game news website. I'm intrigued to see all of the "OMFG I'M SO EXCITED" comments.
That is all.

I say to you the same RayFan said to sergiomonty. If you're just gonna call us crybabies, then you can get out.If you wanna put all your hopes on it,do it,but I don't wanna read you shitting all over the place. Some people isn't excited because:

1.This game hasn't been officially shown and could be completely different on E3

2.The pics show a seemingly uncreative game with no-magical-at-all environments.

Now,how you dare say Rayman 2 wasn't that good? I respect you opinion, but you say it as if it was a fact, and it isn't.Rayman 2 is probably the best in all the saga, and that's a fact, because it's the most successfula nd famous Rayman game.

That's right Bionichute, we just homeschooled yo' ayuss. :P
Maybe he doesn't like Rayman 2 because he can't beat it? I know I used to not like the game as much as I do now simply because I couldn't get part that irritating walking shell section in the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava.

As I've said before, the pictures seem a bit off, like they've been Photoshopped in places. As with the actual game, we don't have any evidence from Ubisoft that the next game (If there actually is one) actually has a new art style. Therefore, anything that looks even slightly different could very well be a fake.
Now that I think about it, it suddenly seems a lot more likely to me that someone's taken some random pictures off of the Internet, and slapped some RO art on it.

Mammothphant 2 wrote:American movies and games have been using Greek mythology a lot. Theres Disneys Hercules, Crash of the Titans, God of war and many others. Okay they arent that bad. I just sometimes think that if there was a Greek mythology movie or game that was made by some GREEK company instead of an American one, it would be MUCH better and it would use the spirit of the myths the right way. As a half Greek myself i think that would be right.
Considering the prominence that Greco-Roman mythology has always held in western society, I have no doubt that we’ll continue to see the same archetypal stories and characters referenced in our fiction for as long as humanity exists. There’s enormous room for interpretation. Surely a Rayman game based on Greek myth will be radically different from Disney’s Hercules, Clash of the Titans, God of War, or any other modern example you can name.
Mammothphant 2 wrote:Well Michel Ancels team could use Greek mythology the right way maybe, but WHY WOULD THEY? In Rayman games there needs to be RAYMANS WORLD, with Rayman, Globox, Grand Minimus, The 650 Babies, Uglette, Carmen, Betilla, Clark and many other glutes, teensies, fairies, enormous monsters, giants, whales just to name few of the fantastic creatures of the Glade of Dreams.
The Rayman games have always drawn from mythology and real-world locales, and I don’t see any reason for them to stop. For example, consider the Land of the Livid Dead (Rayman 3), which was based heavily on Celtic scenery and artwork. The developers managed to make it fit perfectly in Rayman’s world. The same goes for the characters you’ve listed, many of whom were derived from various myths and legends. Michel Ancel didn’t invent fairies and giants.

Careful now. You’re no better than him if you go about making blanket statements and condemnations. Down with this sort of thing.

But it's very clear he's not a Rayman fan. He appears to me to be one of those people who thinks RO is the best thing since the toaster. And while RO is undeniably fantastic, it's certainly no toaster. I'm actually surprised he didn't make an account just to post that one message. I wonder where else he's been roaming the forums...

Having strange taste in games and being in a sour mood doesn’t mean that he’s not a Rayman fan. You guys are beginning to sound like a certain raving Jew...

I missed that episode, shame really.
Though to expect everyone to be overjoyed and have a unanimous mood to something whose authenticity isn't whole is plainly stupid, whilst people at other places may have a positive outlook, it's human nature to have our own thoughts and opinions, and please, for the love of humanity, stop with this "true fan" rubbish, I admit, yes, I like Rayman 2, and it is my favourite in the series, whilst I admit the environments were not as surreal as the first game, it could be overlooked due to it's other major positives, and it has been noted in many "best games of all time" lists by esteemed games media. And it has high ratings on metacritic.

Eh, I don't know. His post kind of felt like he was looking for trouble, but what do I know? I'll just stop posting about it because this conversation seems to have gone a bit sour, but I'm still interested in seeing this place where everyone seems to have gone completely batshit over the announcement of a sequel.

On the contrary actually, most of us were praising the artstyle. The thing we weren't so fond of was the setting and content.

Even MORE pictures? On closer inspection I can now see why the pictures looked off. Well it seems that they're going to have to do a LOT in order to impress the fanbase.
"Rayman Origins through time? :pfff: What's next? Rayman Origins in Space?"
Nevertheless, it's staring to look interesting.

These pictures are a little better than the previous ones, but still I'll be waiting to listen to Ubisoft about their plans in the new Rayman game.

As am I, but now that some more sources are cropping up my skepticism is starting to fade. The art style actually looks kinda nice to me now that I can see it a bit clearer.

These screenshots look much better. It seems that we’ll finally be getting a cave level with gigantic mushrooms, which is something we saw in both the early Rayman Raving Rabbids screenshots and the first Rayman Origins trailer. Is that the Magician’s hat in the last image?
